Sacramento Wedding by Scott Andrew Studio + Kate Whelan Events™

A modern wedding style can run the gamut from just a splash to all out sleek and contemporary down to the very last detail. This wedding captured by Scott Andrew Studio lands somewhere in between with classic elements (that beautiful lace dress!) mixed with fresh, modern details crafted by Kate Whelan Events™ (hello color palette). It’s a Pop of Color that Brad Goreski would so approve of and it all works together to create one heck of a gorgeous affair. From Kate Whelan of Kate Whelan Events™Lia and Alex asked for a unique, fun and elegant affair — and I think that’s exactly what they had! Lia was inspired by a bright, fun shade of tangerine orange and loved the idea of sprinkling a little bit of silver sparkle throughout the design. We toyed with the orange, gray and white palette and utilized it to create a playful and modern event that not only reflected their artistic personalities but also their unique heritages. Modern versions of Greek, Italian and Mexican elements reflected Lia and Alex’s blended backgrounds. The couple paid homage to Alex’s Greek heritage by marrying at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church surrounded by loved ones and gorgeous stained glass. The bridesmaids wore unique gray dresses and carried mono-botanical blooms in shades of orange, while Lia carried a bouquet composed of a blend of their blooms. Guests then headed to the Crocker Art Gallery and enjoyed a cocktail hour in the gorgeous Ballroom — a space where Alex’s mother volunteered when he was a child. Guests then moved down to the fantastic New Courtyard, where guests were escorted to their tables via cards displayed on giant canvases sitting on the gallery’s own large easels.

A live artist captured both guest portraits and still life details of the event decor. Italian cafe lights sparkled overhead, anchored by white draped columns, while vibrant orange patterns were splayed on the historical building’s unique architecture. A mixed array of tables spread across the courtyard, covered in a blend of grey and silver linens. Each table featured a collection of white ceramic Greek crosses, Italian architectural elements and artichokes. White acrylic papel picado table numbers sat between mirrored vessels of bright orange blooms. Guests dined as the happy couple shared their first dance under the sparkling lights before moving inside for the cake cutting. Once inside the Friedman Court, flanked by ambient orange up-lighting, guests enjoyed a post-cake dessert display and jumped on the dance floor to enjoy Wonderbread 5, a fantastic band. A DIY instant-photo booth kept guests entertained all night. A late night snack of sliders and fries were passed on the dance floor — which stayed packed all night. Ouzo was served for Greek dancing and libations into the wee hours.
