From Karine of Seasons of Life Events... I love that this couple had a wedding that's true to their personality and interests, in a location of their choice, without defaulting to the expected tropical wedding themed decor and setting. Living in Hong Kong for work, Sandra and Stuart traveled over 5,000 miles to celebrate their wedding in a gorgeous museum located in the heart of Honolulu. Their story is one of long distance love, world travels and a passion for adventure. Stuart grew up in Hawaii, so Oahu made the perfect destination for their international guests to gather. As a writer, Sandra is an excellent researcher, which helped in the planning process. From the start, it was clear that food was going to play the starring role in their wedding day. Infusing their passions and shared interests was also important, and months of sharing photos, videos and inspirations developed into a look that reflected their relationship.
Guests entered the museum's iron gates and were greeted with a mocktail from a recipe created by Sandra that included Hibiscus flower and ginger. Lush garlands graced the aisles of the ceremony, which was held in the museum's Central Courtyard. Ceremony and reception flowers were lovingly created by Stuart's aunties, who have created centerpieces and decorations throughout the years for family and friends' celebrations. The ring bearers carried signs to announce the arrival of the bride, and the couple's close friend officiated a meaningful ceremony while Sandra and Stuart exchanged personal vows.
Following their ceremony guests were escorted into the Mediterranean Courtyard for cocktail hour and were serenaded by a three piece women's Hawaiian group. A tabletop display featured love letters, tickets to plays, travel itineraries and memorabilia that reflected the couple's relationship. Sandra and Guests were asked to write well-wishes on eclectic postcards that Sandra and Stuart collected from around the world. The reception was held in the museum's indoor/outdoor cafe. Tables were decorated with Chinese teapots and figurines and favors were brought from Hong Kong. The fact that the couple are veracious foodies made their reception a culinary adventure. Guests were treated to a three-course, sit-down dinner, followed by a dessert buffet of exotic cheeses, fresh fruits and Sandra's favorite: coconut cake. After toasts and cake cutting, guests were served a bite-sized chocolate crunch bar created with locally grown North Shore chocolate. While they enjoyed their final gift from the couple they watched a very touching same-day-edit that was filled with emotion and love. After a send-off, guests moved the celebration to a karaoke bar, and the party continued throughout the night.
