From Rosemary of Rosemary EventsOf all the weddings I have planned, Britt and Peter’s is certainly one of the most beautiful, personal and heartfelt weddings I can remember. They married on a beautiful September evening at a wine country home surrounded by sweeping views of the valley and vineyards. The whole evening was filled with love, fun and personal touches! From the start, they had a clear idea of what they wanted: simple and elegant with romantic, rustic touches and loads of candlelight. They loved a gunmetal gray and white palette and wanted just a pop of color. Top priorities were delicious food, good wine and great music. I brought in my amazing team — designer Nicole Sillapere and Chef Ethan Mantle, and we got to work. Some of my favorite elements of this wedding were the custom invitations and day-of papers. We collaborated on them with Tiny Pine Press, and they were works of art. Penned by lettering artist Cynthia Warren, each piece was letterpressed on hand torn paper, individually laser cut and tied with hand-dyed ribbon. Each of the hand selected vintage stamps posted on the envelope had some relevance to the couple and the occasion. From the wedding programs that were individually sewn with linen covers to the beautiful laser cut designs in each place card and menu, everything was simple, elegant and beautifully crafted.

The property had a beautiful indoor/outdoor feel, so we designed a day that flowed in and out of the spaces, revealing new surprises throughout the evening. A sea grass deck was built as an extension of the patio into the vineyard so that they could exchange vows surrounded by grape vines. We were concerned about sun being a “comfort issue” so we framed the space with a wood structure and softened the edges (and bright sun) with romantic, natural draping. Britt’s parents had been given a Koi wind sock on their wedding day 34 years prior as a symbol of strength and perseverance in their own marriage, so they loaned it to her as her “something borrowed,” and the wind sock flew over Britt & Peter’s ceremony as well. After the ceremony, everyone gathered in the courtyard for cocktails. Tito y Sons de Cuba provided cool Cuban sounds reminiscent of Buena Vista Social Club while guests sipped the signature blackberry cocktail “The Bramble” and sampled yummy bites from Chef Ethan Mantle of Componere Fine Catering.

At sunset, guests were invited to dinner. The local, seasonal meal, served on the farmhouse lawn was delicious. Guests dined under string lights, listened to jazz by pianist Larry Dunlap and toasted the couple. After dinner, everyone headed back to the courtyard where we revealed a chic barn for dancing, complete with Edison bulb lighting and a jaw dropping candelabra, especially designed for the dance reception. Ever Music Group performed jazz and swing music, the couple cut their cake, guests cozied up to the fire and danced. After several hours of partying, the couple made their way through a sea of waving ribbons to their getaway car and drove off into the night. It was a really spectacular evening.

Nicole and I always try to find something special that we can leave with the couple as a gift. When cutting the invitations, the laser cutter carefully gathered all the little “Britt and Peter” cutouts left over.  She made the sweetest little nest from them and sent it along. We presented it on the table with the candelabra and surprised them with the nest and little love birds at the end of the night. They are a great couple and so deserving of such a wonderful night.  I am so lucky to have gotten to know them and their wonderful families.
