Alanna Lock of White Room Events… The concept for the shoot was simple, it’s a story about young love etched into a sea of pastel, prettiness and sparkle! We wanted to create a shoot based on a proposal so we set out to create a soft and romantic vibe infused with a dose of fun and playfulness. The entrance door had a balloon tied to the door knob with a cute little tag that reads, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” This is from a famous love poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. We filled the room with pastel coloured balloons in pale pink, mint green, baby blue and lavender. Each balloon was tied with long strips of wool in matching pastel colours and each string had a tag that listed one of the reasons why Phillip loves Tania, for example, “I love the sound of your laughter,” “I love the kindness of your heart” etc.
A Pastel Proposal – The Story… For sweethearts Phillip and Tania, love is, indeed, a lot like “floating around.” So much, in fact, that Phillip knew instantly he wanted floating balloons to be the centre of his surprise proposal to his future wife. “There’s something ethereal about a room full of balloons,” Phillip writes. “They instantly provide hope and whimsy. That’s precisely what Tania gives to me every day.” Hope, whimsy, and a bundle of other amazing qualities, all tied to a sea of balloons and listing a different reason Phillip loves Tania. From kindness to inner beauty, Phillip spent countless hours identifying every trait he adores in Tania. At the end of that list, of course, is just one missing characteristic he desires in her: to be his wife. “The white box is a symbol of her pure heart, and the handmade beads signify her childlike faith. She’s an amazing girl, and I’m so blessed to keep her forever.” Phillip writes. And yes, he gets to keep her forever. After Tania arrived at the secret proposal destination, greeted with a sea of love notes, balloons and a treats table, her eyes welled with joyful tears. “I can’t believe Phillip went to all this trouble. I’d marry him if he proposed at a gas station!” Thus, she snacked on a “Yes” cookie, posed for a few heartfelt photos and dreamed of the life they’ll float through together — forever. – From Erin Loechner of Design for Mankind
