If I could wrap up all of my many wedding loves into one picture perfect wedding…this would probably be it. From the bride… Our venue was a huge inspiration for our wedding. It was basically my dream venue because it had a private beach within walking distance to a rustic barn — I was in love. Neither of us are from Santa Barbara, but we thought it would be the perfect excuse for a mini-destination wedding for us and our guests. Immediately, my vision was one of rustic, whimsical elegance, incorporating flowy drapes, sparkly chandeliers and long wooden tables. Another inspiration was Rob’s proposal, which included a Corona typewriter with the words “will you marry me” typed in it. The theme of words and books inspired our invitation suite and was also reflected in our ceremony program booklets, centerpiece books, and our table names as “chapters”.
The day arrived and it was perfect. Not because everything went exactly perfectly, but because everything that happened sculpted the day into the special one we will always remember. My dad officiated the wedding ceremony, which made everything feel so personal and special. Then, we lost my tiny wedding band in the grass during the ceremony! Several people got up to help us look for the ring, including our photographer and our relatives and guests — which definitely made for some memorable pictures. In the end, we didn’t find the ring despite everyone’s best efforts. Initially, I was panicked, but then I realized the day was about more than the ring. It was about our love and commitment, the beginning of our marriage, and being surrounded by the people we love. And those things were not lost.
The rest of the day was filled with beautiful memories: the best flowers ever, meaningful toasts, amazing food, s’mores, and a barn filled with love and merriment. Instead of a cake, we did cupcakes, which were both adorable and delicious. We had In-N-Out Burger for a late night snack, which was definitely a great decision. We really wanted a photobooth, and one of my bridesmaids made amazing props for people to use in it. For our first dance, we decided to take dance lessons despite our busy schedules, and they were really fun and different from our normal routine — plus we were more excited to do our dance on the day of. Initially, we weren’t going to do a bouquet toss, but we ended up doing one anyway, and it was so much fun when one of my dear friends caught it! We feel so grateful to have had that day and especially to have had it with its unique twists and turns. We were thrilled with how our original vision came to life and we were so lucky to have such amazing people to work with on our wedding!
