From the bride… Our wedding took place on a beautiful, yet very hot, summer day on the 9th of July in Oklahoma City. Eight months earlier, Brian and I took a trip to Amsterdam and Paris. Brian got down on one knee in the middle of a quaint Parisian restaurant and asked me to be his wife. When it came time to begin planning, I had an idea of things I definitely wanted for the wedding: a live band, a videographer to capture the special moments on film, walking down the aisle in the church I grew up in, a bagpiper, ivory bridesmaids dresses, and a big party! From there I just filled in the gaps. My wedding dress really became the inspiration for all of the details of the wedding. One thing that helped me during the planning process, besides having an amazing wedding coordinator, was the slideshow I made. I started pulling images of all of the cakes, décor, flowers, etc from different blogs (mostly SMP) and slotted them into different slides. By the end of it, I had a slide for each one and when I went to present this to the wedding coordinator and vendors, it was such a helpful tool.
Brian and I had so many favorite/special/amazing memories from that day. One special moment that we both found extremely emotional and memorable was writing notes to each other before the wedding. It was a great way to take a little time and really focus on what that day was all about. When it came time to walk down the aisle, it really hit me that this was about to happen! My dad must have seen the nervous/anxious/excited look on my face and said “Don’t worry, I’m right here.” I will never forget the feeling of walking down that aisle on my dad’s arm. When Brian’s eyes met mine, all of the nerves began to melt away and I was left with this rush of emotion and happiness. We loved the feeling of celebrating our love with family and friends. They all meant so much to us and we wanted each them to leave the wedding saying “That was so much fun!” so we made sure that the band was a focal point to the reception. We also incorporated neon sunglasses and glow sticks in to mix. Waiters brought these out on silver platters and they were such a hit. People loved them! I honestly would not change one thing about that day. Brian and I woke up that next morning and looked at each other and said “I want to do that all over again!”
My advice to all of the brides out there is going to be so cliché, and I am sure you all have heard this from at least one person but when you start this whole experience, from the day you begin planning to the minute you walk down the aisle, just remember to soak it all in because it will go by so fast! It will all be a blur the morning after, so what I did was made sure to take a few minutes during the day and stop to really mentally take it all in. Don’t get caught up in the stresses and problems that will happen during the planning process. Try to keep your focus on what this day is really about … celebrating the love and union between you and your husband to be. And last but not least, have a blast!
