From Ariel Yve Design, LLC…. For this photo shoot, I wanted to blend a bit of the East Coast Glam with the California Casual look that Santa Barbara is known for. I was incredibly inspired by Ralph Lauren for this piece. I adore polo, and polo ponies, but didn’t want to create a literal interpretation of a “Polo Theme.” I love designing environments that convey a lifestyle rather than a “theme,” and Ralph is the master of life-styling.
For the first look, I brought in heirloom blue and white English china, 1930’s crystal stemware and sterling silver. All from my own families collection. The linens were a dichotomy of textures, mixing the raw earthiness of burlap with the refinement of La Tavola’s delicate Alencon lace table and chair caps.
Ever since I was young, I’ve associated the color navy, with Casablanca lilies. I knew I wanted to feature the lily by making it the focal point of a massive floral grouping of all white blooms arranged in vintage silver champagne buckets and urns.
The cake in this feature was designed to mimic the textures of the table linens and set atop an antique Chippendale dresser. To enhance our decadent cake, I filled the dresser drawers with masses of full blown white roses, riding bits and show ribbons.
For the second look, I wanted to create a luxurious yet effortless picnic. Any bride-to-be will tell you that she’s fantasized about eloping at one point or another. I really wanted to tap into that dream, by creating this chic, intimate setting.
For the picnic blanket, I used an ultra glam linen from La Tavola called “Monique”… on which I piled a plush mountain of taffeta and organza rosette pillows in cream, gold, aqua and chocolate. Bringing these scene together were details such as, old cloth bound books, over-sized lanterns and wicker picnic basket overflowing with fresh flowers and a mixture of equine goodies.
For a final bit of whimsy, I created a wooden tree swing using a piece of 2″ thick reclaimed lumber and dozens of ribbons, which acted as the stand for our cream and champagne 4 tiered cake. The perfect touch for this simply sweet setting.
