This adorable dairy farm wedding by Kelly Dillon Photography is the epitome of a DIY wedding. Each country chic detail – every flower, sign and burlap runner – was hand-crafted, hand-picked, hand-painted and hand-sewn by this resourceful couple with their friends and family. Many elements even came from or nearby the farm where the bride grew up including the wood used for the table numbers and the hay bales for the ceremony seating. Click here to see it all!

From the Bride…Our wedding day was more beautiful than we could have ever dreamed of. As a young girl growing up on a dairy farm, I spent many summer days daydreaming about having my wedding on top of the hill. Jeff and I knew we wanted our day to look and feel country and rustic, incorporating parts of the farm into our day. With a limited budget we focused on items we already had or details we could make ourselves. My dad spends many days in the summer haying the fields for his beloved cows so I had him make a few extra bales for the ceremony seating. Our mothers collected fabric from thrift stores and donated their old curtains to use as covers for the bales. Jeff’s father took apart and painted the arbor that was in his garden for us to get married under. I hope one day to be able to have the arbor in our yard to remember back to the day we vowed to love each other for the rest of our lives.
Guests found their seats on an old door that was once in my grandmother’s house and has been in the attic for years. The wood from the table numbers came from an old red barn that recently collapsed. During one sunny afternoon my friends and I painted the signs and table numbers to add to the feeling of a country wedding. Tables were topped with burlap runners that my mother so kindly assembled. One of my favorite DIY projects was our invitations. I am thankful to the Boston Bruins for winning the Stanley Cup, it was during their 2 – 3 games per week that I chose to assemble the invitations while cheering them on! Flowers, oh the flowers, I still think about them! My aunt spent the day before the wedding gathering wildflowers located on her sheep farm for the centerpieces. I didn’t know that there were so many varieties and colors of wildflowers, they were beautiful.
On the wedding day, one of my closest friends, who I’ve known since age 5, went out with me to cut the sunflowers for the bridesmaids bouquet, it was such a special moment to reflect on how exciting of a day this would be! And what a day it was. Even the cows came out to graze in the field as we partied the night away. As Jeff and I made our way to the Mount Washington Hotel for our honeymoon the next day we were amazed at how perfect everything was. It truly was our dream wedding.
Sunbrite Farm located in Bernardston, Massachusetts (otherwise known as Western Massachusetts) has been in my family for generations. The idea to use milk bottles for the centerpiece came from the glasses my grandfather used to bottle and deliver milk. This wedding could not have been as wonderful without the love and support from all of our family and friends. Bernardston has that small town feel where everyone knows everyone and neighbors are always willing to lend a hand or an old fashioned tractor in this case.
