No matter how many times we’ve seen it I still adore a yellow and gray color palette. Especially when it’s done oh-so right as in this Calgary wedding by Lavish! It is sweet, chic, modern and cheerful all wrapped in one sunshine-y little package. I love contemporary and elegant feel without it being fussy and there are so many adorable details to pour over like the yellow candy favor place settings, the sweet-as-can-be cake topper and the sassy bridesmaids dresses. From the Bride…I always knew I would enjoy planning our wedding but I never anticipated enjoying the planning as much as I did. The day after Matt proposed I immediately stocked up on Bridal Magazines, started reading wedding blogs and fell in love with Etsy. I had known for a while that I wanted our colors to be yellow and grey so that decision was already made and everything seemed to fall into place after that. We decided to have our ceremony and reception at the Art Gallery of Calgary. We loved the contemporary feel of the high ceilings and open stairwell. I knew that using the color yellow would pop in contrast against the white walls and grey concrete floors. The Art Gallery has four floors so we thought we would start upstairs for the ceremony and then work our way down to the basement for the dance. Matt and I wanted to create a laid back atmosphere for our guests. We were very focused on the flow of the wedding and the layout of the gallery seemed to complement our ideas beautifully. The ceremony for me is a blur of emotions but I loved walking back down the aisle as Mrs. Armstrong and hearing the musicians play “No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Do” by the Band of Horses. It was truly an amazing day.
A friend of mine did all of our floral arrangements. The centerpieces were a variety of antique milk glass vases with an assortment of yellow and white flowers. My mom and I made yellow table numbers, painted multiple picture frames yellow and created flags to go in jars of yellow jelly beans to be used as place settings. Matt and I created CD’s with our favorite songs in cases with pictures from our engagement session as favors for our guests. Celebrating our marriage with family and friends was very important to us and it was the happiest day of my life.
