Cape Girardeau Wedding by Lily Glass Photography

Oh my goodness! Is this bride not the most angelic, strawberry blonde, beauty you have ever seen?  And her dress is just off-the-charts amazing.  Actually the entire wedding, lovingly captured by Lily Glass Photography, has a fresh, chic, modern vibe that I’m totally all about right now.  The blue and yellow details are bursting with the same fun personality that the sweet couple obviously possesses. See each and every extraordinary one in the full gallery!

From the Bride…Jamie and I had been dating for almost 4 years when he asked me to marry him on the rooftop outside his apartment in Cape Girardeau, MO. So naturally, I was ready to tackle wedding planning right off the bat. When we began planning, I had one requirement: it MUST be a fun party. First, we found our venue, a restaurant/ bar/ brewery 2 blocks from our apartment. It was the perfect location, a spacious room that overlooks the Mississippi River. Venue, check! The brewery offered a very casual, warm space which fit our personalities better than any large, enveloping, modern church.

As an art teacher, I teach kids to invest in the details. My favorite detail to tend to? Color! We stuck with navy, yellow, grey, white and cream. It took work to unify these colors and make them blend but I made sure to include them in all of the details from the flowers, to the cake, to the shoes. Laurie Henry, owner of Fanciful Ink, designed all of my paper products, which were a beautiful combination of the color palette. My biggest design inspiration was a paper-punched medallion that I found on Martha Stewart’s website. They were adornments for a winter-themed party but with the help of my mom, we made them into the perfect décor for a whimsical summer bash. The medallion theme was carried out in the invites, cake, photo background and even the thank-you notes. I gently sprinkled them on the table with a splash of handmade candles and friendly, bright flowers. I found stemmed desert glasses (into which I poured the candles), and vases from thrift stores, antique stores and my mom’s basement. With the help of my family, we tied bows for the chairs, custom-designed the guest book and set up our home-made photo booth. I must also mention that my mom and sister formed trees into our chic little arch, complete with daisies inside two urns.

The actual day was a fairly relaxed event. As mentioned, the ceremony and reception were both held in Buckner Brewing Company upstairs in The River View Room. We took photos at the park, in our loft apartment, in an ice cream shop and other various locations around Gape Girardeau, including the rooftop on which we were engaged! Our photographer, Lily Glass, was there for everything capturing the spirit of the day and our vision for the wedding. We celebrated with friends and family from all over the country and concluded the evening with a few sky lanterns. The best compliment of our big day came from my dad who told me: “the wedding was so special because I could see your fingerprints in everything”. That was the goal; to create an experience for our friends and family that demonstrated exactly who Jamie and I are. I have three pieces of advice for future brides: 1. Fight for what you want. 2. Invest in the details. 3. Make it FUN!
