Rustic DIY Wedding by Jason Burns Photography

This couple had my heart – hook, line and sinker – at the first sentence of their adorable love story (check it all out below)!  Their sweet history began before high school when she was his first crush and he was her first kiss and, forget it, I was just a blubbering fool after that point.  Their wedding celebration, documented by Jason Burns Photography, was equally as heartfelt and charming with loads of DIY details and backyard beauty.  Check it all out in the full gallery!

From the Bride…We met when we were twelve. I was his first crush. He was my first kiss. After years of dating, finally the engagement came and we were to be together forever! We knew from the very beginning that we wanted a simple and intimate wedding with the main focus to celebrate our love with family and friends. It took eleven months of planning and collecting and envisioning to create our vintage country chic wedding. We wanted everything to feel really easy and natural yet pretty and sweet. We were on a super tight budget so most of our décor was hand-picked and hand-made by myself and our friends and family. I scoured the thrift shops for all the centerpiece jars and books we had laying around.

Our wedding would not have been a success without the help of our fabulous friends and family. Family members flew in early to help with preparing everything from the table place settings to helping with flower arrangements to assisting with gardening! We were so grateful!

In addition to planning for our wedding, my husband also re-modeled our home in time for our June 4th wedding date. Just days before our wedding, painters and electricians and carpenters were working to finish. This added more stress to our backyard wedding, and was quite a task, but proved to be successful. Our wedding day served not only as the most important day of our lives, but also as a housewarming party in which everyone could see our new beautiful home!!!

To other DIY brides out there, my advice is to take things easy. I know there are TONS of things to finish and put together before the big day, but enjoy the process and just let your creativity flow. Get your friends together, grab some wine, and have a night of making ribbon wands and flags.
