We’re loving the bunches upon bunches of fresh lavender, the bride’s amazingly tousled-to-perfection hair, and the gorgeous views that seem to go on for miles and miles. Oh, and what’s really amazing about this wedding is the bride’s dress because not only did her mother wear it on her wedding day, but her grandmother walked down the aisle in it too. From Gavin Farrington Photography…My second photographer and I knew we were in for a treat when the directions to the venue included the instructions, “no cell reception! If you want to talk today just let me know by email and I will call you from the landline as soon as we get up there.” That coupled with the promise of a real functioning ranch with livestock, not a ranch-turned-event-venue meant only good things could happen.
Rebecca and Zach are about the sweetest people you could hope to meet. It’s easy to see where they get it – every one of their family and friends were similarly kind and cheerful. There wasn’t an ounce of stress at this wedding. Not even when the rain started to fall and the ceremony was moved from the garden where planned to the inside of the barn.
This is the third wedding the dress has seen. The first being the grandmother’s, followed by the bride’s mother, and finally Rebecca. Even when Rebecca spilled a glass of red wine all over the tule, she was calm and collected. Fortunately Grace knew exactly what to do and swooped in with white wine to the rescue. (Having a fashion designer for a second shooter has fabulous perks.)
When a DIY wedding really comes together, it really comes together, and this was no exception. The styling, flowers, boutonnieres, and makeup were all done by the bride or friends and family. Burlap, wildflowers, cookies, pies, string lights and of course mason jars made for a memorable atmosphere. The barn being genuinely old and weathered had gaps between the planks in the walls, letting soft natural daylight stream in and wash over the ceremony.
