Torrey Pines State Reserve Wedding by Joielala Photographie

It would be completely embarrassing if you could hear my squeals of joy over this San Diego wedding by the incredibly talented Joielala Photographie girls  but since you can’t I’ll just keep howling away over here.  My succulent-lovin’ little heart is just a pitter patter over this elegant, eclectic and extraordinary event with its gorgeous mix of vintage and modern pieces, vivid colors and patterns and heartfelt little details.  Check out the full gallery to see even more!

From the Bride… When we first started discussing what we wanted our wedding to be, we never really mentioned colors or themes or anything that would typically make sense to get us going in a streamlined direction. We just knew that we wanted the wedding to feel like “us”. After spending many weekends searching every major venue in Southern California we decided to go on a hike at Torrey Pines State Park, where we happened to get engaged. As we approached the top of the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean we looked at each other and thought the exact same thing “what have we been doing?” It became so obvious so quickly that we had been searching for something that had been in our backyard the whole time. Perfectly timed, we went to our friends house after our hike who have the most lovely backyard and garden and they suggested we have the reception there. Several weeks later we decided to go with it and it was the best decision we ever made.

My husband is a designer who created all of the save the dates, invitations (little monster drawings and all) and signage at the event as we certainly wanted to do as much ourselves as we could. We have an eclectic style between the two of us, that’s for sure. We both love mid century modern, I tend to have a romantic vintage styling in a lot of of the clothing I find and my husband is a Greek artist who grew up in South Africa inspired by the beautiful colors and dynamic cultures. Mesh all of those things together and that is what created the “theme” of our wedding.

We spent several weekends going to the flea markets in Long Beach and Los Angeles to gather all the little detail pieces like the vintage silver planters and tea pots for the succulents.  I found our votives while at a tradeshow in Utah of all places and friends who had recently been married contributed to our vision by allowing us to borrow elements from their special day. Blankets, saris and wraps from South Africa, Thailand and Mexico brought in small bits of color at the ceremony site and at our reception.

Honestly, we are so lucky our vision came together in the way it did, all the randomness created a wedding that was absolutely “us”. The excellent food, music and all the love and support from our friends and family could not have made for a more perfect day for us to celebrate our love.
