Two shoots, two amazing photographers, one day and one darling design guru make for an afternoon post full of pretty, pretty inspiration. So get settled and get ready to soak it all in! Here’s genius concept from the lovely Amber of Amber Events – showcase some of her favorite vendors and illustrate how the same amazing space – the Carondelet House – can be seen in different perspectives through different lenses. She called the amazing talents of Picotte Weddings and Duke Photography to bring the concept to life. Suthi of Picotte Weddings captured the space for the romantic, light-filled daytime shots and Duke of Duke Photography swooped in to capture the sultry style of the evening. The end result? From Amber Events…This inspiration shoot was inspired by a few things that I wanted to tie together: the new venue Carondelet House in downtown Los Angeles, the new line of faded gray furniture from Town and Country Rentals called The Vineyard, and the difference and drama that lighting plays in a space. I also wanted to do an approachable shoot that brought some of my favorite vendors together. In order to show how lighting affects a space, I used the exact same set up but brought in two separate photographers: Suthi Picotte of Picotte Weddings for a daytime photo shoot with natural light, and Duke Khodaverdian of Duke Photography for a nighttime shoot.
Built in 1928 as an Italian Villa with urban flair, Carondelet House is full of warm wood floors, exposed brick walls, exposed beam ceilings, beautiful tile work, a working fireplace, and two small courtyards. With the capacity to accommodate parties and weddings of up to 150 people, the brides and grooms of Los Angeles are going to go crazy over it! Owner Alan Dunn (who also owns catering company Tres LA) has done an amazing job remodeling and furnishing it with beautiful pieces. In fact, there are dining tables and chairs that come with the property that can seat up to 50 guests.
The two separate photo shoots within one day was something that I was so excited about, as I love the dramatic transition from daytime into night. Suthi Picotte loves working with natural light and film, and her work is soft, romantic, and feminine. Duke Khodaverdian, with his background in fashion and studio photographer, is a genius with lighting and was able to capture the sultry, sexy mood once the sun went down. I let the photographers completely direct my couple, Monika and Mike, and it was so interesting to see the day captured from two totally different perspectives and personalities.
The team that I created was given the same inspiration board with only instructions that the shoot should have a soft, slightly Victorian feel against the industrial walls and windows. The color palate was charcoal, crème, ivory, sepia. I don’t believe in micromanaging when I have talented people to work with, so I let them run with that description and was in love with what they presented. Each and every one of them brought their A Game and we created a magical space for a day!
