We wanted out wedding to be something that was as far away as possible from the usual formal or traditional Chinese wedding affair, something that our guests would know came from us and would be associated to the type of people we are. We are usually dressed in tees and shorts so we wanted to keep the theme as casual as we could, where family and friends could celebrate together and have fun.

During our courtship, we spent quite a fair bit of time visiting theme parks, so we thought we would bring a little bit of that kind of atmosphere to our wedding so everyone would be involved, relax and enjoy themselves. From there, we tried to design everything around a fun and casual theme, from table number and seating place cards to center pieces and wedding cakes.

We spent a good part of our courtship in Australia - shopping in Melbourne, trekking to Tasmania, and driving up to Sydney. We now live in Perth. We wanted something different from a formal black tie sit down dinner or a large scale traditional chinese style dinner. Perth allows us to hold it at a vineyard. Most importantly, we wanted to make sure that we knew everyone at our wedding, we wanted it to be cozy and for everyone to have a good time and enjoy themselves.

We chose to do most of the designs ourselves as we wanted to be as involved as much as possible, make it as personal as we could. We designed our own center pieces, invitations, gowns, menus, and pretty much everything else. Details were thought of to go with the whimsical, light and casual feel that we wanted at the wedding. We had bright colors at the wedding to make it a bit more 'fun' and in particular went with shades of Mandarin and Turquoise. We used rubber ducks as part of the centerpieces because they were a bright and cheery yellow! The windmills as seating cards were something that our guests could also have fun with.

Sparklers were used later because we both like playing with them!  Our giant cupcake was also slightly quirky and we loved how it turned out even though our cake designer wasnt sure if it would work. Because we both love food and as the wedding was held in Perth, we wanted to give guests a little bit of Australia to take home with them so we decided on jam as favors.
