From Pineapple ProductionsRula and Nadim both come from Lebanese families based in the Washington, DC metro area.  While their mothers were good friends and although they first met in elementary school, it took nearly fifteen years for the two to come together and realize they were a match.  They shared their story with me, as well as their hopes and dreams for their wedding celebration.  They described wanting something completely contemporary, from the event design and color palette, to the overall approach to the day.

Rula and Nadim struggled in deciding between the two venues, so we finally asked ourselves, “Why not use both?” The Halcyon House became our venue for the ceremony, thoughtfully crafted and performed by Rula’s sister.  We staged the ceremony within the four cement pillars in the center of the studio.  We suspended an orchid purple stretch of fabric above and hung masses of votives from the frame.  Volanni provided all the florals, including dramatic tree sculptures out of natural manzanita branch, green cymbidium orchids and more hanging votives.  Rather than setting up typical theater style ceremony seating, we created a ceremony “lounge” with furniture including orchid purple ottomans, glow pedestal tables, curved black benches, black and white parsons tables and nickel bistro chairs.  Volanni accented the furniture groupings with unique, exotic floral mini-sculptures in acid green, orchid purple and white.  As the sun set during the cocktail hour,  the studio transformed and washes of color became increasingly visible on the studio walls and art pieces.

At the W, as guests arrived ready for dinner and dancing, they were greeted with cherry-yuzu cocktails and the hotel’s signature “sexy fries.”  Puzzle piece shaped escort cards, which were arranged in front of a white dendrobium orchid screen, mimicked the style of the black and white invitation suite created by Oblation through Just Paper and Tea.  Guests were seated at a mix of round and square tables — some dressed in steel grey with subtle graphic patterns and others draped in rich purple dupioni silk.

Working with Rula and Nadim was a chance to be part of something entirely original, dripping with urban chic style and full of heart and consideration for their immediate and extended families and international community of friends.
