What is it about the desert? The light? The sense of time slowing down? Gorgeous, natural surroundings? Really amazing sunsets? I think it might be ALL of the above and what better spot for an intimate wedding. Total perfection if you ask me and these desert festivities were completely DIY from start to finish minus the amazing photography by Kurt Boomer of course. His images have completely rocked my world one amazing succulent shot at a time and now they can rock yours too. See the full wedding here!

From Kurt Boomer Photo…I love weddings that are focused on the natural setting. Shannon and Carl’s wedding was set in Pioneer Town at the Pipes Canyon Lodge. It’s an AMAZING place. Pioneer Town is settled next to Joshua Tree Park and the photographs came out amazing. The desert light made for gorgeous shots with my film. Joshua Trees sprinkled among the desert springs flowers made it hard to take an average photograph. She stated early on, “we are doing everything opposite of the boring cookie cutter weddings”.
Now, when I say this was a DIY, this was DIY! The dress was handmade by Shannon’s best friend. The succulent center pieces, bouquets and boutonniere were all made the day of by her sister. Pies replaced the traditional cake, made of course by Carl’s mother. The music on vintage vinyl was spun by good friends of Shannon and Carl. They even had a friend make custom mason jars which everybody shared a good amount of beer from. The homemade Mexican dinner was done by Pipes Canyon. They were married by Carl’s best friend. Even the napkins were handmade.
Why the extreme DIY? Carl is in medical school and Shannon is in school herself. The true definition of starving students. They love the outdoors and all it has to offer (especially rock climbing). About the only things they went outside of family and friends for was the venue and me for photography.
