This next wedding is about as perfect as you can get and has left me yearning to crawl right into each and every gorgeous image by onelove photography and live there forever. Her images always have that effect on me though…remember this stunner? But I digress. Think of these nuptials as a playful mix of french garden with just the right smidgen of indie cool crafted by Lauryl Lane and you’re on the right track. As light hearted as it is breathtakingly gorgeous, I have a feeling this is going down in the history books of All Time Wedding Greatness. From the Bride… Paul and I really like classic things, but our taste reflects more of a vintage/classic rock edge, so we knew a super formal wedding with a big reception and cookie cutter wedding things wouldn’t work for us. We really want our guests to enjoy themselves and feel like they’re at a beautiful event that is all about the details. I love the look of eclectic French gardens, so I spent time sourcing silver bowls and antique medicine bottles to create a table that looked like a mini field of flowers and moss. The florist also contributed with her vessels to create a look that feels like you’re at an Indie flower shop. We used yellow to make everything pop and found fun accents like little vials of tea for the favors and yellow striped straws for the drinks. Another important thing is the music, Paul and I want everyone to dance so we’re blending the old standards like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin (our families are Italian so this is a must) with 60’s and 70’s classics like Crosby Stills, Elton John, Joe Cocker, The Who, etc. Our favorite movie is Almost Famous, so we want to recreate that soundtrack.
The flowers on the table were really important because I wanted it to feel like you picked a bunch of wildflowers and put them in a collection of vases. Nothing manicured or untouchable. Mixing the silver with low key flowers will hopefully give that high-low chic I’m trying to create. Also, the stationery was important to me because I designed and addressed everything. I wanted it to be colorful and show how something hand made could work just as well as a traditional embossed invite. Since I write my own blog, I can easily spend hours searching through other people’s sites to find inspiration. Also, I spent a lot of time in vintage and thrift stores in Los Angeles and Ann Arbor, so the endless shelves of china, crystal, and serving ware were so inspirational.
It was hard planning a wedding back at home while Paul and I were living in Ann Arbor. I definitely had a few breakdown moments where I just felt so overwhelmed, but I was incredibly lucky to have an amazing bridal party and parents who went above and beyond to plan with me, you have to learn to let others help you. I thought we would be immune to the stress everyone says you and your fiance will have, so not true, but it helped Paul and I learn how to work through things together. At the end of the day, my advice would be to focus on the two of you and realize that this is the person you imagined marrying. I think it hit me when Paul was writing the names of our guests on little cards so we could make a seating chart and he wrote down Jaclyn Giuliano (my future last name).
