Welcome back to another wonderful, wedding Wednesday here at SMP! And if you’re new to Wednesdays here, it won’t take you long to figure out why it’s our favorite day of the week. Get ready for an amazing coast to coast tour of seven drop dead gorgeous weddings. First up is this adorable, harvest themed wedding captured by the talented duo of Kellan Studios. I’m a sucker for history, so when I saw this wedding, held at the Berkeley Plantation, home of the first Thanksgiving, I was immediately smitten. And then I saw the bride and groom…and is it me, or are they not the cutest? The sprawling fields, the weeping willows, the lawn games, I’m officially head over heels. Croquet, anyone? Our concept was the idea of harvest. We feel so richly blessed with friends, family and love, we wanted to day to be a true celebration of that overflow of joy. We chose our venue because the plantation was the site of one of the first thanksgiving celebrations. We encouraged a casual, fun day by setting up all kinds of lawn games on the field for guests to play. The flowers were a loose mix of butterscotch dahlias, orange and champagne roses, burgundy hypericum, sunflowers, burgundy coxcomb, orange lilies, yellow solidego, ivory spray roses, ivory freesia, seed eucalyptus, burgundy hypericum berries and birch branches. The food included guests being greeted with apple cider. We served a Spinach Salad with Caramelized Onions, Southern-Fried Apple Slices, Crispy Bacon Bits and Mustard Vinaigrette Dressing. For dinner, Pecan Smoked Turkey, Espresso Rubbed Flank Steak with Sauteed Asparagus, Colonial Corn Pudding, Roasted New Potatoes & Sweet Potatoes with Garden Herbs. The cake was pumpkin spice with a cinnamon creme frosting. The hammered dulcimer player for our ceremony music, Tim Seaman, was the same family friend who had played the music in my parents wedding over 28 years ago. He played the song “give thanks” in both weddings. I walked down the isle to the hymn “Come thou fount of every blessing” and Brandon entered to “star of the county down.” Other fun facts…we made our “bride and groom” signs with dried oranges we purchased online and squares of craft wood which we painted. Our cake stand was a log my dad cut in our backyard. Our guest book tree was an illustration that Brandon and I created together from an idea we saw online. The incorporation of the bike theme was because Brandon and I first met in a bike shop! The blue tandem bike is my parents, which they ride around for fun very often. Fall, family, harvest, blessing and thanksgiving….we covered all of it.
