Every once in a while, we get an urban wedding that is so chic, so pretty, and so cool all at once. Today, we are sharing one of these with you. This black, white, and green Denver soiree is all things urbane and we are head over heels in L-O-V-E. The images from Julie Afflerbaugh are so sensational, we almost forgot this was an actual wedding, and not an über cool photo shoot. When you’re done here, pop over to Julie’s blog to see more!
We are both city people so we wanted a classy, contemporary, wine-inspired, modern wedding, starting at the picturesque St. Paul Lutheran Church for our service. It was beautiful. It was clear that black and white would create the atmosphere of elegance and sophistication we wanted while adding a pop of green brings out that spunk we desired. We completely fell in love with the fresh look of the Magnolia Hotel Ballroom where we later had our reception.
Our escort cards were stamped with fleur de lis. The fleur de lis, in its trinity, reminded me of my past, present, and future – all things that brought me to my wedding day. My florist was fabulous in designing arrangements that highlighted the green while maintaining the chic ambiance. In lieu of a traditional guest book we had a Colorado Wine and Cookbook. We asked each guest to recommend a new hobby or tell us where we should travel – the responses have provided us with great reading.
Our bridesmaids wore taffeta Amsale dresses, in black, to contrast the beautiful silk taffeta Amsale gown I wore. Our groomsmen wore single button, black tuxedos with black ties while Brendan wore a green tie. The most sentimental aspect of the day was seeing my father’s face when I met him in the lobby of the hotel to ask him if he would take me to my wedding (for 12 years my dad took me to my first day of school). We rode in a town car to the church and he dropped me off just like he had, every August, for 12 years.
We wanted our pictures to reflect our love for downtown so Julie Afflerbaugh, our wonderful photographer, brought us to two amazing places. Both were in the city and both were historic Denver landmarks. Julie took the most remarkable pictures; the candid, downtown photos now make up a picture collection I’ll cherish forever. It was a perfect day; I wouldn’t change any single detail.
