Canadian Winter Photo Shoot by Distinct Occasions

Just when I think I am over Old Man Winter, a shoot like this comes along and changes my mind completely! If you can’t beat it, enjoy it – right?  Bring on the crisp winter air that inspires scenes like this one from the lovely Crystal at Distinct Occasions. She knew all my winter weaknesses – freshly fallen snow, tartan, hot toddies and a tablescape styled to perfection. I suppose that is what one should expect when the greats of Palettera, Petals, Stems & Leaves, and The Caketress join forces and top it off with a gorgeous Valencienne wedding gown (not to mention, a stunning model!). It’s time to give Old Man Winter a little love (as hard as it might be to some), so cuddle up with the full gallery of images and embrace all the beauty.

From Crystal of Distinct Occasions…Being Scottish-Canadian I’ve always been in love with both of my heritages. There is something so sexy and comforting about the mix of Canadian winters with maple syrup, fine Scotch, tartan and fur. It’s primal. It’s pretty. It’s all out perfection. For this shoot we really wanted to update the tartan trend we’re seeing in makeup (MAC tartan) and clothing (Ralph Lauren’s tartan line) and mix it in a way that wasn’t in your face but subtle, suggestive and sweet. The love of crisp snow, warm fur and hot toddies matched perfectly for an unexpected twist on a classic look.

To make the look a bit edgier we included a custom gown from AH-MAZING Canadian couture gown designer, Valencienne, in a short 3/4 length bubble skirted, one shoulder gown with incredible fur gloves, and hat from KC’s Hats. Makeup Artist, Makeup by PBW went all out with a gorgeous flirty eye and unmistakeable red lips. A perfect contrast for this winter brides pale complexion.  For our table we styled it using charger plates and german christmas birds for a bit of subtle bling.  Each centrepiece custom made by Petals, Stems & Leaves feature black & white anemones as well as Scottish Broom in yes, completely ice vases – not for the faint hearted! The ornaments hung from the tree were frosted to match the chilly -10 degree day we were shooting in and even the cake from The Caketress mimicked the frost with a sugary crystal detail and gorgeous black bow. Warm scotch in rock glasses wrapped in organic wool and sugar sticks completed the look. Winter looks can be done in crystals and feathers but why not step out of the box and do something special? Embrace winter and celebrate it – we did!
