Rooftop parties are an east coast delight that I’ve missed terribly since becoming a California transplant. So when this pretty party from Abby Jiu Photography and Fleurish Events was sent my way I felt a sharp pang of jealousy. But it was quickly replaced with joy brought on by this carnival-inspired, rooftop engagement party. How could anyone walk away glum from a party full of cotton candy, bright blues and vivid reds, quirky paper goods and a cozy dinner overlooking Georgetown, DC? A coordinated assortment of milk glass and fresh, white florals elevated the whimsical table settings to elegance. The table, made from two rescued doors, provided a pop of color, neutralizing the need for a oh-no-i-spilled mood-killing tablecloth. Guests sampled gourmet amore’s fresh corn and red pepper salad. Candy-striped straws (personalized with Kate and David’s initials) adorned milk glass tumblers; ice-breaker playing cards were tucked into napkins; menus at each place help determine the source of taste-bud bliss. Uncoordinating chairs lent an easy, friends-pull-up-to-the-table flair.
The message on the menus read “eat, drink, and the merriment will take care of itself,” which soon accurately described the evening’s unfolding. As the sun went down, the d.c. lights glowed and the guests conversed and over a sampling of fare shaming even the crispiest funnel cake. Gourmet amore’s frangelic chocolate mousse cups, topped with a pair of gold and red raspberries and a sprinkling of roasted hazelnuts, took center stage.
Befitting a night of activities enjoyed by even the most juvenile, the guests surrounded Kate and David for a sparkler-salute goodbye.
