Gorgeous bride, check. Rustic details that make you absolutely swoon, check. Perfect flowers, sweet styling and a couple that is madly in love? Check, check, check. Photographed by the oh-so-talented Caroline Ghetes, this wedding is the epitome of SMP style. But honestly, what we love the most is the fact that the couple looked no further than their own relationship, their own love, to infuse their wedding with such personality and charm. And the result was absolute loveliness. Click here to see the whole shebang.

While Dale and I live in a high-rise apartment building in NYC, we both have a love of nature and wanted a natural, intimate setting for our wedding. For that reason, we found a private home nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina. It felt like stepping into a storybook with its meandering stream, roaming cows, and elegant stone house with stunning views of Cold Mountain from its back patio. More importantly, it was large enough to room both of our families so that we could spend the long weekend celebrating!
The decor of our wedding was a blend of vintage elegance and natural, whimsical touches so as not to take ourselves too seriously. We chose neutral colors like light taupes, greys and creams with highlights of dusty pink and greenery. There were touches of sparkle – crystals hanging from trees, white lights covering nearby trees, and crystal statement necklaces for the bridesmaids – because who doesn’t love a little bling! Table decor was highlighted by vintage doilies, medicine bottles and mason jars that came from the help of our friends and family, as well as several NYC flea markets. One of my favorite elements was an idea Dale and I had, that our lovely wedding planners at Occasions by Emily put together at the last minute for us! Using an old library drawer with files, we asked guests to leave us a note filed under a year of their choice. Now we’ll have a special something to open from now until our 50th anniversary!
Several more elements of the day were very personal: the team at Fuzzco designed playful, adorable wedding invitations with gnomes and fireflies, my aunt created the wooden welcome sign and programs, my uncle and our good friend played a piano and guitar melody during the processional, my hometown pastor officiated the wedding, my grandmother, Dordy, made several of my favorite pies including a southern favorite – chess pie, and our families helped create a memorial table for our grandparents who had passed away from Alzheimer’s within 2 weeks of each other earlier this year. In lieu of favors, we made a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association to honor them.
The night flew by with touching speeches, crazy dance offs, and a sparkler-send off, only briefly stalled by a cow blockade on the dirt road out! It was everything we’d imagined – vintage, elegant, whimsical – but more importantly, love-filled, fun and everlasting! Thanks to all of our families, friends and vendors for making it perfection! Special thank you to Caroline and Alin at Caroline Ghetes Photography for capturing the details and emotions of our day beautifully!
