Planning our wedding was the most memorable and exciting time together. As a true case of opposites attract (me: type A, Andrew: type B), we knew we would both bring a different element to the mix. While I was all over the details, Andrew helped me keep the big picture in mind and together we created a day that will forever be in our hearts. We wanted a wedding that was rustic, simple and chic. We chose a raspberry, coral orange and khaki palette with lovebird accents to create this feeling. We played up the rustic theme with twine, lanterns, mason jars and burlap. The lovebirds were used in the stationery, cake toppers, a bird cage for cards and my aunt made clay lovebirds to place around the reception.
Many of my friends advised me not to do favors because they are often left behind, but when I saw the idea for homemade jam on Style Me Pretty I just had to do it. My mother-in-law and I spent a day up at the family river cabin making over 200 jars of raspberry jam. Andrew’s grandfather was there when we were making it and suggested we change the message on the jars to “Thank you for jam’n with us”. We immediately had the message changed and he was very touched when he saw that we used his idea at the wedding. Overall, the jam couldn’t have been a bigger hit and we only had about 15 left over!
My mother-in-law, sister and friends also helped me with many other DIY projects such as our table runners, ring pillow, a quilt that guests would leave messages on and earrings for the bridesmaids. I truly enjoyed spending time with them on these projects and loved all the personal touches that came about. My favorite part of the day had to be the ceremony. Every moment from walking down the aisle with my dad to the kiss was magical and full of emotion. We chose to say traditional vows as well as writing our own and we are so happy with that decision. By sharing our vows out loud, everyone was able to hear exactly how we felt on that special day.
