The folks at Birds of a Feather Events sent us the cutest little wedding to share today. So adorable, in fact, that I kind of want to wrap it up and stick it in my pocket for safe keeping. Plus I’m a sucker for billy balls and there happens to be a plethora at this shindig all caught on film by the talented Tara Swain Photography. If you are a fan of cupcakes, checkered vans and other such light hearted details, you too will appreciate this fete and don’t forget to stop by the gallery. There is even more of this Texas wedding to oh and ahh over.
8.16 8:16 816 These three numbers in various ways are what started this entire adventure that is now my life. Rather than formally proposing first, Billy decided to set the date first…via text message. He is a bit A.D.D and when he gets into the zone at work (he is a photographer) his mind starts racing. He said that had to be the date, 8.16.2010. My birthday is 6.16 and his is 10.16, and 8.16 met us right in the middle. So, we texted each other at 8:16AM, we texted each other at 8:16PM, our home address is even 3816. Eventually he did propose, with a ring and everything! After much back and forth about elopements, courthouses, and tradition we decided on tradition – we would get married here in the area and have a proper wedding. Only hitch? 8.16 worked for us…and us only! Our parents were not too keen on a Monday night wedding. Long story short, we compromised. Ceremony and reception on the 15th, papers signed on the 16th. Two anniversaries equals two gifts, right?
As soon as I started planning I fell in love with the entire process, it turned into a true passion and when it was all done I wasn’t ready to stop. I was helping other people plan their weddings while I was planning my own. Birds of a Feather Events was born, and I haven’t looked back!
The night before the wedding I just wanted a nice quiet dinner with a handful of my closest girlfriends, I had already been to Vegas 2 weeks prior, so the partying was out of my system! Our wedding was at 2pm, so the hair and make up started early the next morning. We did a first look before the ceremony, which I HIGHLY recommend, they are my favorite photos from the entire day! We did not have a bridal party, just a flower girl, but I decided to surprise my mom and ask her to be my maid of honor about 15 minutes prior to the ceremony. This was definitely one of the highlights of the day. Our ceremony was a comedy of errors, my earring fell off when I hugged my dad, Billy was sweating profusely on his head, and the officiant quoted a lyric from our least favorite band…but all those little things made it that much more memorable and we have some funny stories to tell for years. We decided to wear checkerboard Vans rather than traditional shoes, they are Billy’s favorite and I really wanted to just be comfortable all day. We even talked our dads and the officiant into wearing them as well. I hand made all of the favors during the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding, and most of the decor was purchased from vintage shops or on Etsy. Overall it was a fabulous day and I truly feel like I get to relive it over and over again through my wonderful clients!
