Engagement Session from Chic Sweets + Limelight Photography

This engagement session from Limelight Photography and Chic Sweets is literally one of the sweetest shoots ever!  A mix of completely scrumptious-looking treats with pretty vintage touches makes for a totally fun and rustic picnic shoot but could easily translate into a romantic wedding.  Maybe even this week’s Thanksgiving festivities!  Sharing hot chocolates and s’mores with your sweetie is probably up there on most romantic things to do ever!  There is more yumminess in the full gallery!

It was important for us to create a scene that reflected our couples’ personalities, who were laid back and F-U-N! So we created the story for this set based around our gorgeous couple sneaking away to have a romantic moment at the beach just before sunset.

Part of what makes shoots so exciting is that plans can change at a moment’s notice. The shoot was originally  intended to take place at the beach, but as we with prepared to set up with Limelight Photography, we both noticed this wonderful field of grass, sand and sea-oats and so right then and there, plans changed! A worn-out blanket was placed in the sand, a few books wrapped in twine, lit some candles and a shawl was set out for snuggling when it becomes slightly breezy. Two mugs of hot chocolate were also put aside as another, simple prop.

We wanted to create a dessert table that feels accessible to our client, but gorgeous! The runner was made from burlap, which in this season, is extremely affordable, as low as $3.00/yard at most retail, craft stores. We also spent a few weeks rummaging through a few garage sales, even our local Salvation Army and gathered as many milk vases as we could. Absolutely love to mix together varied types of milk vases and use one type of flower which can create a striking look.

Since we were using this shoot as an “inspiration” for readers, we wanted to create our desserts without breaking the bank. The marshmallow scene was relatively easy to create. Assorted chocolates were laid out along with different types of fruits, which we thought would be a great pop for the table. Since we wanted to elaborate on the s’mores scene we took plain, chocolate cupcakes, crumbled graham cookies as our topping and then topped off with a marshmallow, drizzled with chocolate ganache (or chocolate syrup). The cake was made by us, however, very simple to make. Two, 8-inch round vanilla cakes (store bought mix) covered in icing. The fantastic part about covering the cake with icing, is that it did not have to be perfect.
