Canadian Wedding with Simple Charm

You just might mistake this next little number for a photoshoot. The details are so ridiculously perfect, it’s almost hard to believe that it was an honest to goodness wedding, with an honest to goodness bride. And the moment we laid eyes upon it, we were instantly friends. The sweet but lovely decor, the edited approach to design, the personality and the magazine-worthy style…all kind of added up to absolute perfection. He’s from the south and I’m from the north, and we met in a small little sail boat in Hamilton harbor in a jewel of an island called Bermuda. On turquoise waters beneath brilliant sunsets he taught me to sail and I taught him english, we fell in love.

Our relationship really has embodied the saying “if you love someone then set them free… having spent a lot of our courtship living in different countries. Me working as a private chef aboard motor yachts and Jorge based in Bermuda but with family on several continents, meant that although I was getting married at home in Canada I would have to plan the wedding as a destination event. Which for me meant finding fabulous vendors.

The Briars, on Lake Simcoe, reminded me from day one of my family home its sprawling elegance and hidden eccentricities and would be not only a perfect backdrop but also provide my guests with warm and traditional Canadian cottage getaway. The Inn is family run and owned as it has been since 1870 and the entire staff really came through and treated us as though we were part of their family, they really went beyond the call of service to provide us with the best possible hospitality.

From the moment I met Julie Addario Of Unforeseen Events at I knew we were on the same page. I knew right away that she would treat set up this event with the same care as if it was her own wedding. The inspiration for the flowers started with my mother. When I was growing up there were always large bouquets of wild flowers in mason jars on the kitchen table of our country farm house. I also wanted to incorporate lavender, a flower that I’ve always loved but I fell in love with in the Mediterranean and reminds me so much of my travels there. In the flower design Julie was able to bring together the things that I love both at home and abroad.

The result was perfect, the day was perfect. From the invitations beautifully designed by Amber Strahl and lovingly tied by my sister with hemp twine and a sprig of lavender from my aunts garden to the rainbow at the end of the day.
