Tailgate-Inspired Reception Photo Shoot

In a time when wedding TV shows choose to feature over-the-top displays of opulence or stressed-out, screaming brides it is refreshing to see a little inspiration for the laid-back, unfussy couple.  Adrianne Smith Floral and Delphine came up with the perfectly adorable reception idea of a tailgate party with a twist.  This playful pair incorporated bright colors, fun games, and loads of vintage details.  And how rad is that old school truck?  Can’t you just picture the cake or bar being set up in the bed of a sweet, vintage ride?  This shoot could definitely be turned into an easygoing and super fun reception.  Sit back, relax and feast your eyes on even more inspiration in the full gallery. xoxo, Emilia Jane

From Erika Firm of Delphine

“The inspiration for this backyard tailgate lawn party reception can be traced back to a chat Adrianne and I had about my graduate school days at The University of Georgia. Adrianne (a Southern Californian through and through) and I (I’ve lived just about everywhere) were comparing notes about how our different backgrounds influenced our personal styles (we’re both totally laid back, but in different ways). We wondered aloud how both of our laid back perspectives would translate into a wedding, and together we designed a super fun tailgate party reception. No fancy stemware, no pouffy dresses, no cheesy decorations … just steel buckets full of drinks, fun games to play, lots of homemade treats, and friends galore.

It started with a crazy color palette: fuchsia, red, matte black and galvanized steel and an idea of PLAY. Then a few vintage props from Erika’s collection: a Royal typewriter, an old brochure rack, a hot pink crinoline. Then a friend offered up his vintage pickup truck, another her collection of vintage lawn games. Swoon. We had a party!
We wanted it to feel like a celebration anyone could pull together, so Adrianne stuck with a single bloom (Dahlias) in a limited color palette (hot pink and red) for the décor, and stunning hot pink Gerbera daisies for the bouquet.  We pulled props from our own personal collections, shopped at Target for the hot pink plastic plates, bought lots of fresh fruits and veggies at the local markets, and kept the look light and playful. We pulled it all together with amazing vintage lawn games from Jennifer Price at SoLo.”
