Virginia Wedding by Cat Thrasher Photography

If we were to look up classic elegance in the dictionary, I have a feeling there would be a picture of this very wedding photographed by Cat Thrasher. Designed and styled by Beehive Events, these nuptials were edited to perfection while letting the natural beauty of The University of Virginia shine through – a true testament to the phrase less is more. And we absolutely adore how the gorgeous couple behind the day incorporated both their religions into the ceremony and really made it their own. For even more of this pretty day, click here.

It’s a challenge to relate the full experience of sharing a young couple’s wedding vows surrounded by the Neo-Classical architecture of Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia. Jefferson, perhaps America’s most celebrated polymath, conceived of his university as an endless opportunity for learning and growth, and it’s hard to imagine a better wish for any couple embarking on a life together. Other parallels presented themselves. Just as Jefferson’s “Academical Village” showcases an eclectic combination of architectural styles and influences, so Paige and Elliot have combined their cultural and religious backgrounds (his Jewish, hers Christian) into a blended heritage.

Paige and Elliot made the shoot easy in so many ways. The brilliant vendors they employed made picture-perfect use of the grounds of the Colonnade Club–one of the many “pavillions” in the oldest part of the university. I was particularly struck by the arrangement in and around the chuppah–the canopy under which the bride and groom exchange vows according to Jewish tradition–which brought in the lightness of natural wood and the university’s gardens as a counterpoint to the gravity of the old red brick in the background. And, of course, Paige and Elliott are beautiful. Add to this some very cooperative weather (on the heels of an abnormally hot and humid summer), a happy and warm wedding party, and a lively and celebratory reception, and it was just about impossible to have anything other than a great time. Truly, it was a privilege to share this profound moment in the lives of Paige and Elliot.
