From Beautiful Blooms:
Blaine (my boyfriend) and I decided to throw a party in August for our friends and family. We both love entertaining and have been so busy that we had not had any time to do so. We thought it would be great to throw a party for all of our friends and family so that we could finally spend time with them. We both thought about what we wanted the party to be and we came to the conclusion that we wanted a relaxed casual party that reflected our personalities. We wanted people to come and listen to music, enjoy great food and beverages, play games and talk. With this in mind we set off designing the invite which would set the tone for the party. We worked with Loveleigh Invitations and told them what we were looking for and off they went to create it. We choose a color palette of yellow and navy blue popped with green, clean and classic.
Since designing parties, decor and flowers is what my company (Beautiful Blooms, LLC) does I knew the party still had to have a sense of style to it. My boyfriend was kind enough to humor me and let me run with the decor elements while he focused on the food, music and alcohol as well as getting his home ready to host this party. We did quite a few things ourselves as I have friends and family that are quite crafty. My aunt made the table runners for the picnic tables from fabric I had purchased in yellow and blue patterns. We chose navy blue cotton linens and ivory umbrellas for the 60″ round tables. To keep the look more casual we rented natural wood chairs. The decor all worked around one of my favorite garden/farm flowers…zinnias. As the guests entered they were greeted by a shepards hook where we hung wood slices and had transferred artwork placed on them. We wanted to make sure the guests knew where the party was. I worked with Loveleigh invitations on the transfer artwork and then my aunt and I transferred the artwork.
As the guests entered the yard, we placed white washed urns filled with plants and shepards hooks with candles. The invitation was letter press and we incorporated the croquet balls and badmitton racquets into the look. I have been a collector of old bottles and milk glass so all of these pieces were incorporated into the table decor. We also incorporated lanterns and hung vases from the inside of the umbrella. My friend Rosemary and I made all of the pies for dessert and they were a huge hit…raspberry/peach pie, lemon meringue, cherry pie, and blueberry pie. Everyone had a great time and it was so wonderful spending the day with great friends and family. Isn’t that what life is all about…taking the time to stop and enjoy life?
