From Kristin, the bride…
I wanted our wedding day to fit our personality and character. It was important to me that it was casual, outdoorsy, rustic, down to earth and relaxed. I think that definitely came through the day of, and all of our guests seemed like they had a blast.
Being the crafty, detail-oriented (to the point where I can drive someone crazy), graphic designer that I am, the DIY details were out of control! Every Friday, my mom and I would get together and tackle one project after the next. My mom and I cut and sewed material for napkins and table runners. My aunt crocheted the doilies that wrapped around the mason jars that hung in the trees. My cake stand was a collaborative effort between my mom, grandpa, and I. My mom handmade our bride and groom birdie cake topper. My grandma and I handmade the flower garland that hung from the trees at our ceremony. My mom, sister, and I got together one Saturday and put 118 fondant “k’s” on our moon pie favors. I hand-painted all of the rustic signs at our venue helping our guests to find their way from the ceremony to the reception area. We had a DIY photo booth area with fun props that the guests had a blast at.
A few days before the wedding, my mom, a family friend and I, bought flowers from the OC flower mart and put together all of the flower centerpieces for our tables. I also designed our wedding stationery suite…the list goes on, and on! The DIY details were important to me because I wanted everything to fit with the look and theme I was going for, and it totally paid off in the end. I now have all of these great memento’s to look at, and memories to think back upon that were made while creating them with my family. My family is big on games during holidays and get-togethers, so I wanted to incorporate that into our wedding. Since we had a huge lawn area to work with, I had two croquet sets set up for the guests to play.
My bouquet had white and yellow ranunculus, peach garden roses, two-toned coral dahlias, white lisianthus, and white scabiosa tied up in burlap and lace. For the bridesmaids, I had them use white wax flower, two-toned coral dahlias, yellow ranunculus, peach garden roses and yellow solidago wrapped up in burlap as well, with charms I got from etsy that had each girls name on it with a pearl. Jeff’s boutonniere was a white ranunculus tied in burlap, and the groomsmen’s boutonnieres were white wax flowers tied in burlap.
I can honestly say that ALL of our vendors were amazing. I felt so at ease just knowing I trusted each one of them 100% and that’s so important on your wedding day. I also got some great advice from a family friend that wrote in an engagement card she sent, “have fun planning the wedding…don’t forget to plan for the marriage.” While planning our wedding, I always thought back to that and it always reminded me what our wedding was all about…being in love with my best friend and planning the rest of our lives together.
