Sometimes, amidst the glitz and glamour, it’s the simple, DIY weddings that are the most charming, the most memorable. And this one is all charm. All DIY style. Crafted by the bride and her family members, every detail of this adorable little fete was a labor of love. From the the bride…The magical day started with a trip to Costco for the flower centerpieces, (that weren’t made of paper) an hour in the kitchen filling crock pots with a whole lot of beans for the homemade Mexican salads to serve at the reception, and a bucketful of bliss.
Both the ceremony and reception were held in my grandparents-in-law big cozy backyard complete with a flowing fountain and plastic birds. We were married by my grandfather and in front of a beautiful wooden backdrop built by Thomas’s father. A few quick loving words and then to the party! The decorations were all handmade and kept simple, while demanding at least 100 hours of mine and my mothers time! Well worth it.
The origami flowers were put into old mismatched collected glass bottles and the vintage floral patterned table runners and pennant banner meshed perfectly with our fun, laid back, and classy personalities. The reception was lit with oversized Christmas lights and mason jars with tea light candles. Our expense splurge was on an amazing photo booth that was so much fun I had to be dragged out of several times to give my guests a turn. We provided mustaches and lips for a little extra sillyness, and the dance music was full of 80’s rock and French hits. Our photographers David Newkirk and Jenny Moloney captured beautiful images from our favorite moments of the night and couldn’t have asked for more.
All in all it was a representation of our combined personalities and a gumbo of family and friends that shared laughs and good words with us on the best day of our lives.
