When Pete & Jay got engaged, they called us and had decided one thing: since most of their guests had never been to a gay wedding, they wanted it to rock. They wanted to show their guests an amazing time, and have them walk away with the best experience we could all concoct.

First things first, the Ritz-Carlton Boston Common had just recently opened their new ballroom space when Pete & Jay saw it and fell in love. It’s a unique ballroom in Boston, with modern decor and an incredible wall of glass overlooking the Boston Common. Pete and Jay were able to book the whole floor, so they could have the ceremony, cocktails and reception in three distinct spaces.

Once the venue was set, we moved on to decor. We started with a bit of an exclusive night-club vibe – cool music, great decor, low lights… Marc Hall from Winston Flowers provided a gorgeous design that incorporated orchids (completely exposed, with their roots – such a unique twist), white leather lounge furniture for cocktails, and a mix of leather and ghost chairs to complement tons of candles and off-beat linens for dinner and dancing. Top it off with some perfectly placed rental bars, a black acrylic dance floor, and out-of-this-world lighting by Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting and the night was already set to bring the house down.

To begin the evening, pre-ceremony, guests mingled and partook in a champagne bar while a mysterious “attendant” passed out ceremony programs. The ceremony was beautifully delivered by local J.P. Maddie Sifantus. After the ceremony broke, guests were invited into The Studio, what we dubbed a sort of “Ibiza Chill” feel, with all of the white leather furniture offset by acrylic fixtures and cool blue lighting. A gourmet cheese display, a chef’s compilation of all local cheeses, was the centerpiece of the room. DJ Deja pumped in some very cool European dance tunes and kept the guests on their toes.

While guests explored the “Club,” Pete and Jay had some time with their photographer, Cheryl Richards, to walk around the Boston Common in the gorgeous October weather (they were so lucky!).

The experience continued into the Ballroom for dinner and dancing, where guests were treated to more sounds by DJ Deja, exceptional food and wine from the Ritz (including a port tasting station to accompany the dessert display), and a special performance by Miss Richfield 1981 – a Provincetown favorite of the couple.

Pete & Jay thought of every detail when it came to creating a complete experience for their guests. From the venue to the flowers, furniture, food and sound. Even to the perfectly suited table numbers and escort cards by Smudge Ink, nothing was left untouched by their design aesthetic.
