One final traditional church and oh-so-elegant wedding for you this week! From the lovely ladies at MAP Events, Blonde Tulip and Loop Events Art … Laura and Scott’s San Francisco wedding.

from the gorgeous bride: Since half of our guests would be traveling to San Francisco for our wedding from the East Coast, we decided to get married on a holiday weekend so that our family and friends could make a vacation around their trips out west. Labor Day weekend in September 2009, seemed the best option for us and as it turned out, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend fell on the exact date of my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary! This date inspired many of the themes and special touches. In honor of this important date, I wore the pearls that my dad gave to my mom on their wedding day forty years ago.
After choosing the date, our vision and the rest of the details seemed to flow naturally, with the help of our amazing wedding planner, Jennifer Janzen of MAP Events. We definitely wanted San Francisco to be a major theme of the wedding, as I grew up in the Bay Area and Scott and I have spent many fun weekends visiting and exploring this beautiful place. To highlight this theme, we chose to send out vintage postcards of San Francisco as our save-the-date announcements. My mom, sister, and I scoured flea markets, antique stores, and E-bay shops to gather over 200 postcards that we then stamped with the wedding information that my sister, an artist and graphic designer, had designed on a rubber stamp.
The flowers were a major highlight of the wedding, both the wedding party flowers and the details throughout the reception. We wanted a very natural and seasonal look when it came to flowers and opted for a color palette of burnt oranges, creams, and golds with a lot of greenery.
Books played a major role in our “vintage” reception décor. Coming from a long line of avid readers, my family has a collection of beautiful antique leather-bound books that we wanted to incorporate into the table design throughout the reception rooms. The fabulous Mary Lois Hare of Loop Event Arts executed this vision perfectly by combining the books and some of my mom’s silver pieces with exquisite flowers to really accentuate the “old world” charm of the Olympic Club. To continue the theme, my mom found an antique library card catalog to present the escort cards, which were stamped to look like cards from an actual card catalog and had guests names and table numbers written in calligraphy.
We also collected family wedding pictures from both sides to place on the escort table, on top of a piece of my family’s antique Victorian lace. The escort table really highlighted our themes of books, family, and tradition.
We also featured the city in our food by working with the Olympic Club to select appetizers featuring some of the city’s best cuisines, including Mexican, sushi, and seafood.
