David and I were so excited to be married in our home town of Charleston South Carolina. We picked the French Huguenot Church because its architecture and history are both very unique. It actually sits at the heart of the French section of the lower peninsula and is just across the street from the oldest play house in the country, the Dock Street Theatre. The church is relatively small and perfect for a smaller guest list, but has so many beautiful details. The wooden pews and heart pine floors are gorgeous and the original organ, which has survived war and natural disasters, has been at the front of the church since 1845. The morning of the wedding it was cloudy and rainy and just moments before we stepped out to take pictures the clouds broke and it became a lovely cloudless day. Leading up to the wedding day I was sure I would be incredibly nervous but when the day came I had never been so calm and happy in my life. It was wonderful to walk down the aisle and see all of my friends and family. Nothing can compare to how I felt seeing David at the end of the aisle for the first time. I couldn’t have been more excited to be getting married to him.
We chose the Wickliffe House for our reception and used every inch of the venue for our party. We had our cocktail hour on the second floor, dinner on the lawn and dancing on the first floor. We asked a few musicians from some of our favorite local bands to play together for the cocktail hour. Music has been very important in our relationship and we were so honored that they performed for our guests. After our post ceremony pictures and just before dinner David and I were able to go upstairs and hear our favorite song played for us. It was one of the most memorable moments from the day for both of us.
Because the venues we chose are stunning on their own we wanted to keep things simple and classic when it came to décor. We went with a mainly white and steel gray color scheme that mirrored the classic architecture of the Wickliffe House. We asked our good friend to arrange all of the flowers and we couldn’t have been happier with the result. No one could have shared our vision better and in the end her creations were a perfect representation of our ideal wedding. I loved looking around the clear topped reception tent where we ate dinner on the lawn. The clusters of white flowers, gray silk runners, velvet table numbers sitting in vases filled with coffee beans, and strings of twinkle lights made the tent feel so romantic and inviting. It was wonderful to be there with all the people that mean so much to us.
While planning, all of our decisions were made very organically and I feel that every decision David and I made was never because of an idea we had in our head from the beginning but because we loved whatever it was we decided on in that moment. It was an immense relief in the end when everything came together in a way that we loved. All of our vendors were definitely a huge part of the details coming together and I tell everyone I know that’s getting married to hire a day of planner. Emmy from Peacock Events was a life saver. Her energy, discipline, and attention to detail were crucial and she is without a doubt one of the most fun people we’ve ever met! Every single person involved made the day wonderful and we couldn’t be more thankful. We had such a fantastic time and it was a perfect start to our life together!
