I couldn’t help but fall in love with this completely adorable wedding that Kelty over at Steep Street Photography sent our way. Aside from being held at one of the most fabulous So Cal venues, Smog Shoppe, it’s also 100% personality. Which you know we really love.
We met as next door neighbors freshman year in the dorms at UC Berkeley and were best friends ever since until falling in love…8 years later. All our friends know our love story and said it was like you see in the movie,s so we decided to riff on movies to the larger theme of entertainment as our theme for our wedding. We picked our venue first, Smog Shoppe in Culver City because we loved the eclectic feel and felt like each wedding that was held there took on the personality of the couple and felt very “cinematic”. Once we got the venue, we decided to make each table as one of our favorite love stories like “When Harry Met Sally”, “Armageddon” (haha), “Top Gun” etc. We made our table setting cards using small movie posters set in our flower arrangements and our escort cards had a little poster of the films on the back so the guests knew where they had to go.
We made a little concession stand for people to snack on during the ceremony with candies and flavored popcorn. Our signature drinks were based on Danny’s mother’s amazing raspberry vodka she makes and we called it “Mama Moon’s Love Elixir” – it was a big hit! We had tons of the vodka and it was all gone before cocktail hour was over!
My dress was a fully beaded slip dress that was one of the first that I tried on and it fit the venue and also made me feel like a movie star! My bridesmaids wore electric blue dresses (they were my something blue) and Danny and the groomsmen wore tuxes styled like suits with ties we bought off etsy. I was going to do the flowers myself but realized that would be folly at the last minute and Lorraine Hall stepped in and created some amazing colorful bouquets and arrangements incorporating cactus, hydrangeas and calla lillies. Our caterer was Truly Yours and we couldn’t recommend them higher, the guests loved their sliders and there was an abundance of food that night and the service was phenomenal.
