So let’s recap: a killer DIY wedding with all the warm, personalized comforts of home. Sweet, in-between-the-moments photography by the amazing Tec Petaja and playful equestrian, forest touches to boot. And for the record, I want to dye my hair EXACTLY the color of this bride’s hair!
I just can’t get enough of these photos…
More from Alicia, the bride:
The thing that still makes me catch my breath when I think back on the day, were the songs that were performed during our ceremony. My grandmother sang Ave Maria which was unbelievably special. My grandmother was the singing voice for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, Deborah Kerr in The King and I, and she was in The Sound of Music. Today, she does Broadway. Having her sing for us and our guests was something I’ll never forget. My aunt also performed a song for us (Patty Griffin’s Heavenly Day) and it brought my husband to tears during our ceremony.
I was never the little girl who pictured her wedding. No matter that I never had fantasies of the “fairy tale,” we were floating on a cloud of bliss the whole time. Our wedding was emotional. That’s the best word to describe it. Of the 145 we invited, 60 people came (it was a destination wedding) which made it so intimate–the people who wanted to be there with us to celebrate made the trip and it meant the world to us. From the start, I looked forward to our reception but, to be honest, the ceremony was my favorite part. It was such an intense experience; We didn’t have a rehearsal which made it feel very organic and sacred. Later in the night (after a few margaritas, of course), I remember looking into my brother’s video camera and saying, “Now I understand why people call this the happiest day of their life.”
