From Inspiration to Reality: The Design, IV

The very first From Inspiration to Reality feature that we did blew my socks off. It was incredible for me to see an inspiration board that a reader designed literally come to life. I left the shoot feeling like I was on top of the world, not to mention more motivated than I’ve ever been in my entire life. To see something so beautiful that was designed exclusively for Style Me Pretty is humbling, it’s inspiring, it’s beyond exciting. And when it’s as good as today’s shoot…well, it’s enough to send me clear over the edge.

Headed up by the FABULOUS Millie Holloman and Jennifer from Salt Harbor Designs this feature makes me just about the happiest blogger on the block…

Okay. Enough gushing, let’s talk details. The color palette. Notice that it isn’t blocks of color but rather a layering of really pretty, really complimentary hues. From pinks and greens, to teals, whites and yellows. They are all shades that look lovely together without seeming to be over designed or styled. A little tip when choosing your palette….head to a paint store and start pulling out swatches. Play around with different combinations and slight variations in hue until you get just the right look. Tuck those swatches into your notebook so that you always have something to refer to when choosing items for your decor or meeting with your florist.

Next up, the seating chart. Millie and Jennifer covered sheets of metal with patterned wallpaper and hung the sheets from a tree. The Paper Doll made tiny paper flowers, to which they glued magnets. They used the magnets to hold the escort cards, organized, of course, by magnetic letters. The flowers doubled as a cute favor for guests to take home. Ummm, genius? Another quick tip…just about anything can be covered in a cute fabric and serve as an escort card board. From sheets of styrofoam to pieces of wood or cardboard, this is a really smart way to add a pop of print or color without spending a ton of money.

Now on to the INCREDIBLE dessert table. I’ve actually never seen a dessert table done like this so of course, I squeeled like a little girl when I opened these images. Here is a little note from Millie and Jennifer…

We decided to carry the idea of letters to the dessert table, using the alphabet—apple turnovers, bon bons, cupcakes and donuts. We placed them in colorful wooden drawers lined with wallpaper and used the wallpaper again as runners on the table.
