Michigan Wedding At Caberfae Peaks From Widdis Photography

Today’s featured wedding just goes to show you that ski resorts aren’t just for winter weddings!  Case in point …

Mary Jane and Jim were married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Cadillac, Michigan on July 25th, 2009.  The reception that followed was at her family’s Ski and Golf Resort. A summer wedding at a ski resort!

Sent to us by LBB members Brian & Kathy Widdis, this beautiful summer wedding is the perfect blend of modern and chic elegance paired with the rustic setting of the resort.

Mary Jane has shared a bit of their inspiration with us …

I was raised at Caberfae Peaks, literally! I learned to ski when I was two-years-old and from there on out, I spent all day, everyday in the winter out at Caberfae.  Sometimes just hanging around or sometimes working with my dad, but most of the time skiing.  So even though Jim and I reside in Chicago now, when we got engaged it seemed like the natural thing to have our wedding in northern Michigan at the ski resort were I was born and raised.  Given that it is our family business it made the wedding even more sentimental and personal.

Our theme was sort of “big city meets small ski town”. We were aiming for a rustic elegance – the beauty and uniqueness of a Chicago wedding with the intimacy of northern Michigan. It was truly perfect! We had many guests from Chicago who had never traveled that far north, so we played up the northern Michigan theme. We wanted to give them the true feel of Michigan with the green apples filled tall centerpieces, the apple candles, the dried cherries in their welcome bags and my personal favorite, the lift ticket escort card station!

We made our own version of a Caberfae lift ticket with our guests’ table number and a thank you message on the back.  They were hung on black ribbon between our skis and poles nestled in a chair lift draped in “snow” toile.

The elegance of the big city came from the apple green damask pattern that we used on all of the printed material, from the invitations, to the programs, menus, and donation cards.

The bridesmaids wore sophisticated, black cocktail dresses, but set-off  by a crisp apple green sash and lush bouquets of pink calla lilies, dahlias with splashes of fuchsia and orange roses.

Jim and I both have a serious sweet tooth, so a candy bar was one thing we had to have!  The green and pink candy looked gorgeous in the giant apothecary jars labeled with the green and black damask signs, it had an old-fashioned candy store feel.  One of my favorite memories is taking all 10 of my nieces and nephews to fill up their bags with candy; they were in heaven!

I loved the pink and chartreuse lanterns hanging from the center of the tent, giving the space a truly romantic feel.  It was magical when the sun went down and the tent glowed from the lantern’s light.   Dancing with Jim under that glow is something I’ll never forget. It was the happy ending to our fairy tale wedding!
