Wedding Menu for Ali + Evan by Satsuma Press

Lynn Russell of Satsuma Press is guest blogging today while I soak up the last bit of sun in the Cayman Islands. She has so many fun treats in store, so I know that you are going to love her!

I first met Ali and Evan in January 2008 when I was still living in Portland, just a few blocks away from their charming café, Little Red Bike .  It didn’t take long for us to become fast friends – a shared love of good food and their genuine kindness sealed the deal.  I am still disappointed that I couldn’t go to the actual wedding — I was in San Francisco for Renegade that very weekend last summer.

Ali and Evan’s gorgeous wedding has made the rounds already – and for good reason:  the amazing photos shot by Our Labor of Love and  the picture perfect details and general-all-around joy that Ali and Evan bring to everything.

When we became friends, Ali and Evan already had printers for their wedding invitations, but asked me if I would design and print the menus for them.  The food at their wedding was so important to them – and they knew I would really get that, too.   I was thrilled to be able to contribute a little something to their wedding; it’s always fun to work on custom projects, big or small – and even better when it’s for such lovely people!

The mason jar, drawn by me, was to match both the blue mason jars of flowers on each table and the home-made jam favors. The old-school typewriter font was a nice match for the groom and groomsmen’s blue seersucker suits.  The printed menu itself is just a small detail in such a fantastic wedding, but I was so glad to be able to contribute a little something for my friends.  I think it’s the details that make such a difference, really.   Later today I’ll post about seasonal food, letterpress printed menus and why I love both!
