From Danielle…

I am such a daddy’s girl and I saved a huge surprise for him the day of our wedding! He is a retired firefighter and has always loved the sound of bagpipes being played. Right before he and I walked down the aisle I leaned over and told him I had a surprise for him. At that moment, the bag piper started to play and my sweet dad cried the entire time we walked down the aisle. It was the most beautiful sound and I will never forget walking down the aisle with my dad.

Another personal touch that was completely us – we had our Jack Russell Terrier,Winston as our ring bearer. My brother walked him down the aisle and he stood right beside us the entire ceremony. For the reception, he ran around and mingled with all the guests. I think he ate more of our scrumptious Southern food than we did!

We chose all Southern food for our reception – fried chicken, sweet potato biscuits with country ham, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits and so much more! The food I will say was one of the best parts of the wedding! I chose not to have a traditional wedding cake – I don’t really like wedding plus I knew I could really save some money here. I used a local baker who made six different kinds of cakes and pies (red velvet, pecan pie, caramel cake, etc) and I had my mom make “our” wedding cake, which was her homemade coconut cake. It was like a Southern Bake Sale – the guests loved it.

The entire weekend was so laid back and fun! We had our rehearsal dinner at my grandparent’s farm the night before and chowed down on chili dogs from The Varsity, an Atlanta icon! We put hay bales and quilts out for everyone to enjoy and ate chilidogs, fried pies and Frosted Oranges. The day after the wedding, we met at my parent’s house for a low-key brunch so that we could enjoy our out of town guests a bit more. Everyone complimented us on having a true Southern wedding – laid back, personal, fun and tons of good food! I had the wedding of my dreams and I did not break the bank doing it.

Thank you so much to Danielle for sharing her beautiful wedding with us! It’s clear that so much time and energy went into creating a day that was this special and this personal. Tomorrow, we’ll have Danielle’s brother and best friend’s wedding!
