A Classic Summer Coastal Blue Tented Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were dusty blues, classic whites, and greens.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Marisa and Colton had an elegant coastal wedding at Bay Harbor Marina in Petoskey, Michigan. They embraced a color scheme of dusty blues like the sea, classic whites, and greens. It was a dreamy August day that was perfect for their outdoor celebration. From the extravagant floral arch at their beach ceremony to the personalized oyster shell place cards, truly no detail went unnoticed on their big day, and everything fit the coastal theme perfectly. Plus, Marisa and Colton kept their guests at the forefront. During the reception, they had friendly matches of cornhole, a cigar bar, an audio guest book, and glow sticks on the dance floor. It was all a huge hit with the guests!

The bride wore a textured a-line, cap-sleeve gown by Tom Sebastien. With a deep v-neck and lace details, it was perfect for the coastal day. She purchased it at The Bridal Studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. After dinner came time for dancing, so Marisa changed into her satin, long-sleeved reception dress. It was a totally different look for her!

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

Her bridesmaids wore dusty blue satin gowns in a variety of styles purchased from Revelry.

The groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos rented from The Black Tux.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

After the ceremony, guests moved to the Bay Harbor Marina Lawn for the cocktail hour outside of the reception tent. They enjoyed mingling over oysters and shrimp before moving under the tent for the reception. The couple had three signature drinks, all a nod to their heritage and story, complete with custom gold drink stirrers in the shapes of their home states, Michigan and Indiana. The groom’s drink was The Hoosier, a take on the Old Fashioned. The bride’s drink was Smitten in the Mitten, a take on a spicy margarita. Lastly, the joint drink was Off to Bora Bora (their honeymoon destination), a take on the classic gin and tonic.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

When it came time for the ceremony, guests found their seats overlooking Lake Michigan. The elegant blue, white, and greenery floral arch and the crashing waves behind it made for a spectacular backdrop. When it came time for the reception, they followed the rose path to the tent entrance. Once under the reception tent, guests were in awe at the sailcloth tent, complete with lush florals, romantic string lights, and beautiful lounge-style spaces.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Jessica at Simply Sweet By Jessica created a stunning and classic 4-tier wedding cake for the couple and their guests. The gorgeous blue hydrangeas cascaded down the front for a touch of coastal blue to tie in with the rest of the theme.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The bride got ready with her bridesmaids at Bay Harbor Marina. They had an enjoyable morning as they got their hair and makeup done. Marisa surprised her grandmother with a cake since it was her birthday.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

After getting ready, Marisa and Colton shared a private moment, just the two of them. Instead of a first look, they shared a first touch and didn’t actually see each other before the ceremony. It was special to see them spend that time together before Colton saw Marisa for the first time as she walked down the aisle!

A McGovern Gardens Wedding Reception With Unbelievable Hydrangea Installations

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The colors were pastel blues and pinks.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Anna Louise and Walker’s wedding reception awakened fearless displays of blue hydrangeas and indescribable floral installations that maintained a timeless and elegant feel. Mcgovern Centennial Gardens in Houston displayed elevated gardens, a memorable fountain, and a delicate grassy lawn for their reception.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

The evening that Anna Louise and Walker met was unexpected, as they were both attending a mutual friend’s birthday party. The pair enjoyed each other’s company so much that they exchanged numbers and chatted the rest of the weekend. The following week, the couple arranged to have their first date at a swanky wine bar. For the couple’s engagement, Walker planned a surprise weekend. Anna Louise thought they would be leaving town to visit the beach with family, but instead, when she arrived to pick up Walker, he proposed in their backyard.

Multi-colored floral arches made for magnificent details and photo ops, with a focus on complimentary pinks and pastels. Meanwhile, touches of greenery danced along the light fixtures, beams, and windows of the clear tent. Trendy, clear furniture was balanced by polished couches and elegant table settings. Working as the wedding’s signature blue, hydrangeas also made their way into table arrangements, which included a mix of smaller and larger floral bouquets.

A Vintage French Garden Party in the Middle of Oklahoma

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]When it came to color in the wedding the bride didn’t want it to be too over powering but she still wanted some pops of color! The color mainly came from the flowers, the food/ dessert tables, and the bridesmaids. The colors consisted of more muted blues, yellows, greens, peach, pink, and of course white. Her bouquet was the perfect example of the colors used throughout the wedding! [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vision of the wedding was to create a vintage French garden party in the middle of Oklahoma. Luckily, their venue did half the work with the beautiful architectural and design decisions. The design of the wedding focused on small details such as vintage china, mixed glassware, stunning florals, and other vintage details throughout the spaces that came together to create the perfect ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception spaces!

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Merrik had gone to Edmond (her hometown) one weekend at the beginning of October for a few different things. On Sunday morning she was getting ready for church and while her, her parents, older sister, and her brother in law were at church Luke, his mom, friend Houston, and her two younger sisters were working hard to set up a proposal picnic at the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City! After church her family told me her they were going to a new brunch spot in downtown OKC (which was very abnormal, but she’s not one to question). Her sister proceeds to say that since they were so early for their reservation she wanted to stop and take pictures at the Myriad Gardens. Merrik again didn’t question, so she followed her family directly to where Luke was waiting! He then gets on one knee and asks Merrik to marry him! She of course said yes and the rest of their friends and family popped out of the bushes to celebrate! After a few pictures they did end up going to brunch at Tellers in OKC! [/field]

[section title=”The Fashion”]
[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Merrik absolutely loved her wedding dress and it could not have been more perfect for her. It fit her and the vibe of the wedding perfectly. The designer of her dress is Danielle Frankel and as soon as she saw her designs she knew she needed to wear one of her dresses for her wedding! Her designs are unlike anything the bride has seen. They have a more Victorian feel and are absolutely stunning which she thought was fitting for the wedding vision. Pure art! [/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]For the bridesmaid dresses she wanted all of the girls to feel confident and to love their dresses. Merrik also wanted each dress to be different colors, different textures, and different patterns. Many different dresses were ordered and tried on to find the perfect ones. The main colors were blue, yellow, pink, mauve, and green with different textures and floral patterns. While they weren’t all the same color or cut they went together perfectly and everyone looked amazing! [/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]For Luke’s wedding suit they went to many different stores trying to find what they were looking for. Merrik wanted Luke’s suit to match the vibe of her dress and the wedding. They ended up making a custom suit at Hive and Colony in Dallas, Texas. The suit was a double breasted tan and brown herringbone fabric with a slim lapel. The suit jacket was gutted for breathability since they were getting married in Oklahoma in June. He paired this with an ivory button down, a colorful paisley pocket square with the simple pocket boutonnière and dark brown loafers. The suit was perfect and Luke looked great. When it came to the groomsmen, Merrik wanted them to have plain tan suits with a simple white button down. This way Luke stood out in the group and you could clearly see who the groom was! [/field]

[board_carousel title=”Ceremony”]

[/board_carousel]
[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]For the food, Merrik wanted the table to look just as good as it tasted. She wanted the food tables to almost be a part of the decor in the reception. They had Abbey Road Catering do the food and the drinks and they had a beautiful assortment of meats and cheeses with fruit plates, tea sandwiches, a bread basket, vegetable cups and more! On top of that they had two signature drinks: a lemon drop and an old fashion with beer and wine as well! It was all delicious and done beautifully!
(To bring the vintage elegance vibe into the wedding the bride also thrifted all of the china dishes, bowls, platters, and stands for the dessert table and food/ charcuterie tables!) [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The Baumberhof venue is already so beautiful on its own, so there wasn’t a lot they needed to do to create their French garden party vision! Their florals were done by Poppy Lane Design and one of Merrik’s favorite arrangements was her bouquet. It was stunning and added just the right colors to the wedding! For the ceremony, Kelly, with Poppy Lane, and her team individually drilled holes into the ground and placed white roses all they way down the aisles. On top of that, they also did a beautiful swirling arbor of babies breathe around the wooden arch at the front of the aisle. For the reception I wanted the dinner to feel more intimate so we did three long tables that went from one side of the room to the other and on top of the tables were (some rented and some thrifted by me) all different vintage china plates with colorful glassware. The florals included small bud vases and frog arrangements with mixed brass candle sticks It was simple but beautifully executed. They also had a black and white checkered dance floor with ivory paper lanterns hung above. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake was done by Allie’s Baking Boutique! The inspiration was the vintage cake designs that have been very popular more recently. It was two layers with detailed white frosting and red cherries around the edges. For the groom’s cake they did a smaller white heart cake that said “til death do us part” written in black frosting on the top. Both were delicious and beautifully done. Not only did she make the cakes, similar to the charcuterie tables, Merrik wanted the dessert table to be part of the decor. Allie put together the most amazing dessert table with lemon bars, chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate chip cookies, mini fruit tarts, mini cakes, and many more. Merrik was blown away by how amazing everything looked and tasted!
(To bring the vintage elegance vibe into the wedding she also thrifted all of the china dishes, bowls, platters, and stands for the dessert table and food/ charcuterie tables!) [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Before the ceremony started Merrik and Luke had the Bridgerton soundtrack being played by the live string quartet which fit the vibe perfectly! They also continued to play it during cocktail hour. When they walked down the aisle they had live strings play a medley of Canon in D to play as the bridal party walked down, and then as Merrik and her dad walked down the aisle, the string quartet started playing Golden Hour by JVKE. She also had her younger sister and maid of honor read Ephesians 5:22-23 during the ceremony. They also had a friend of theirs sing one of their favorite songs Salt and Light by Lauren Daigle! She did an amazing job. And finally Merrik and Luke walked back down the aisle to “This is What Falling in Love Feels Like” by JVKE.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Due to the layout of the reception being three long tables Merrik thought it was important to create a seating chart to prevent any confusion! She had a very specific vision in mind, so she DIYed the guest seating chart, the table numbers, and the place settings. The seating chart was created with a large mirror she thrifted at Goodwill and spray painted gold! Then Merrik printed out the names and table numbers on card stock taped it to the mirror and added a gold seal to the top of each page to complete the vision. For the table numbers Merrik bought 5 pieces of travertine tile, broke them into small pieces that could still stand on its own and then glued plastic white cursive numbers to each individual piece of travertine. The last part she needed was the actual name cards. Merrik used a cursive font, two different pieces of card stock and a gold seal to put them all together. They placed those at the center of the vintage china plates and it all came together beautifully. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Because Merrik and Luke were getting married in June in Oklahoma it was pretty warm. To help the guests feel more comfortable they placed individual hand fans on each chair. They also had cute ivory parasols for the bridesmaids. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]For the program Merrik created a newspaper from scratch. She did all of this on Canva and then sent it to be printed at the Newspaper Club! It was such a fun detail and a pretty inexpensive way to have a unique program. In the newspaper she put “our story”, a fun crossword on the back, a lot of our amazing engagement pictures, and the typical program information. It turned out perfect! [/field]

[field title=”Proposal Story”]From the bride –
Jared proposed on June 24, 2022 in Chicago. It was a perfect summer day and I was planning to go to dinner with a few of my girl friends at a new spot in Lincoln Park. On the way to dinner with my friends, they suggested we get a drink somewhere nearby first. We arrived at CSK, a place I’d never been but look super cute online. Once we got there, I entered the patio to see Jared with a beautifully romantic set up of candles, twinkly lights, and flowers and nobody else. He proposed here and when we entered CSK, all of our friends and family were there to celebrate. He had rented out the entire bar/restaurant so we could have an amazing engagement party there that same night. There were photos of us at our favorite moments and he catered our favorite local spot, the Athenian room. People had flown from around the country. It was so special and I felt so loved. It was so perfect and something I’ll never forget. I had never been so surprised in my life and it was so clear how much effort he put into this moment. [/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]From the bride –

I really wanted this wedding to feel timeless and elegant. But personal and warm at the same time and I think we perfectly nailed that! I wanted guests to have fun and feel the love just as much as Jared and I did that day. We’re huge foodies so having tons of food (and cheese) was important to us! Some special moments during our day was reading letters from each other earlier in the day prior to our first look. This really made me emotional and even more excited. It was nice to be able to check in via these letters. Our first look was extremely special to me as well. That private moment he even shed a few tears – something he never does. Getting ready with my bridesmaids was also such a blast. My co-maid of honor Nicole made an awesome playlist of all our favorite throwback songs. It was an amazing and calm start to the day being with my best friends. I also loved my first look with my dad. He’s normally not a very emotional guy, and during this he was overcome with emotion. For our wedding, I had gifted him a handkerchief with my grandmas handwriting on it as she had recently passed, and this had to come out at this moment. It was just a very sweet moment.

This wedding really was everything I had dreamed of. Seeing all my friends and family in one place, celebrating with them in our hometown, and marrying my best friend was more than I could have ever asked for!
[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]From the planner – Every element built upon each other. A Something Blue Coastal-Classic Rosemary Beach Soiree for a Wedding Planner Turned Bride

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]White & Light Blue[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vision for this wedding was Southern, coastal-elegance, with an intimate dinner party feel to it. I really wanted the venue, The Pearl Hotel, to speak for itself with touches of blue to tie in the beach vibe. We wanted our guests to feel like they were transported to a quaint coastal town (not in Florida) to celebrate our love! It was a small, intimate wedding with all of our closest friends & family!

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Joshua and Lauryn met in high school chemistry class and ended up beginning their love story a few years later when they were at the same college (Troy University). After five years of dating, Joshua arranged and planned a family dinner night with both of their families (or so I thought that was it). On the way to dinner, we made a pit stop at the Sybil Temple Overlook spot in Vestavia Hills, AL, where Joshua got down on one knee and proposed to Lauryn! It was just the two of us, so romantic & intimate! Joshua had set up his phone in the bushes, where he was video-recording the whole proposal! I couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect! Then, after the proposal, we drove to have dinner with both our families & celebrated the start of our engagement season!!

Real Brides Share Their Wedding Morning Must Haves and Advice

Leading up to the wedding day, we know brides spend so much time and energy thinking through every last detail of the main event that they often forget to plan for what will happen in the hours before they walk down the aisle. The morning of the wedding can be such a special time, but it can also be stressful if you aren’t prepared. We asked real brides to share their own wedding morning must-haves and what advice they would give now, plus a few recommendations of our own!

Lynette Boyle Photography

What’s the one thing you’re so glad you had the morning of your wedding?

“Must haves 1. Champagne! And lots of snacks (it’s a long day) 2. A steamer 3. Phone chargers 4. A speaker with good playlists” – Kristina, married July 2018

Jen Huang Photography

“Fun music! I needed fun music going all morning to keep the vibe strong. On a more sentimental note – I took 15 minutes alone upstairs to write a “day-of” note to my husband capturing all of my thoughts and feelings that morning. It was nice to step away from the craziness of the glam zone and focus on the purpose of the day for a few minutes, I’ll never forget how zen that felt for me.” – Deanna, married October 2017

“a GOOD breakfast — the day gets so busy, and you’ll be glad you’re not hangry later. quiet time to get ready with whoever is most important in your life. And send the bridesmaid crew and larger wedding party elsewhere so it’s just you and your closest loved ones there for that super special moment of getting dressed and really feeling like “the bride” for the first time. Schedule LOTS of extra time in the morning. You won’t regret it. Even if everyone’s ready early, it gives you extra time to hangout with your bridal party that you love so dearly.” Megan, Married August 2017

“Time scheduled in with loved ones! knew once we had our first look, the wedding day would start to move quickly so I made sure to schedule in time with my mom and dad before heading out for the first look. This alone time with my parents was one of the most special parts of the day. I’ll never forget my dad’s reaction when he saw me in my wedding dress for the first time! But we did run out of time for a few things like exchanging presents. I had gifts prepared for all of the bridesmaids, my mom, and my mother in law and we suddenly ran out of time and my bridesmaids opened up their gifts after I left for the first look. I was disappointed I didn’t get to see their faces opening the presents since I put a lot of time and energy in writing them meaningful cards and selecting special gifts for them.” – Samantha, married September 2018

Katie Shuler Photography

What advice would you give to another bride planning her own wedding morning?

“Organize whatever you can the night before — gifts, cocktail ingredients, hair supplies, accessories, etc. You don’t want to be scrambling around the morning of. The week before, clearly outline to everyone, and I mean everyone, even Dad, their roles and expectations of them the morning of. Do your best to create a relaxed environment — everyone else feeds off of you. I really loved that I had a nice big open space for everyone to mingle and relax together that morning. We ate breakfast together, had cocktails, danced and were silly together — got everyone and the whole day off on the right foot.” – Megan, married August 2017

Elizabeth LaDuca

“Have a schedule and clearly communicate when everyone needs to be where, there’s so many moving parts it’s going to be hard to answer everyone asking the bride “what time are the guys coming” “what time is my hair appt” “are we getting lunch”. I printed out a schedule and taped it to the wall so if anyone had questions, they could check themselves. Outside of that, breathe! As mentioned above, someone else will handle all of your fire drills before you even know they’re happening – aka your wedding planner, photographer, MOH or mom.” – Deanna, married October 2018

“Don’t stay out late the night before! It was so hard to pull myself away from Welcome Drinks after the rehearsal because it was so exciting to see all of our friends and family together in one room. However, staying up late will only cause you to be extra tired the morning of your wedding day which is a feeling no bride wants! Also, it’s important to lay off the alcohol the night before the wedding. Stick to 1-2 drinks max to ensure you look and feel amazing!” – Samantha, Married September 2018

Amy Arrington Photography

“I’d say put down your phone, let the little hiccups roll off and SOAK IT IN! You’re marrying the love of your life. You’re surrounded by your girls. You family is there to celebrate you. You have everyone you love under one roof which may never happen again in your life. Don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy the moment.” – Mindy, married September 2017

Our Recommendations:

But first, coffee

We’ve all seen the Starbucks cups with the handwritten “bride” and girl – today is your day to rock it. But with so many couples choosing remote or nontraditional venues, ensuring you have coffee and breakfast at the ready takes a little more planning. Make sure you put someone in charge of the morning coffee run and collect orders in advance so the start to the day is seamless and caffeinated.

Be on the same page

Your wedding planner and beauty team should help you with this, but make sure you’ve got a clear schedule of the who, what, when, where (and wear) on your wedding day. Communicate expectations with your bride tribe at least a week in advance so that everyone is where they need to be on time or better yet, early. Always ask for an arrival time at least 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled start time because as they say – if you’re not early, you’re late! The morning of, post the schedule on the wall of your getting ready space to avoid questions and confusion and keep everyone literally on the same page.

From head to toe

This one is a very small but helpful hint! All too often we’ve seen adorable getting ready outfits ruined by mismatched socks or shoes. Depending on when and where you’re getting married, chances are you’re going to want something on your feet for that getting ready morning. You can always ask the hotel to send up extra pairs of slippers to the room or consider giving your girls their dance floor flip flops a few hours early. You’ll be more comfortable and the photo opps just got even better.

Birdies Slippers

Rips (and wrinkles) happen

So sad but so true. No matter how many fittings you had it’s possible that something will go wrong with your dress or a bridesmaid’s the morning of the wedding. Make sure you’ve got a needle and thread on hand in case a strap tears, an applique comes loose or a seam pops. Consider a few no-sew solutions as well like double sided tape, iron-on adhesive and good old-fashioned fabric glue. Something else to consider? A hand-held steamer. Most bridal fabrics are super sensitive and easily wrinkled and you don’t want to risk scalding satin or silk with an iron!

Take a moment

When building a day-of schedule, think through the milestones that will happen the morning of their wedding and think of who they want to be there for the moments that will turn into their favorite memories. Whether that’s one-on-one time with the MOH as you put on your wedding dress, a few minutes set aside for a first look with the Father of the Bride, or even quiet time alone to reflect and write, be sure to make time on your wedding morning to enjoy those moments that mean the most.

Colorful Vintage Wedding Inspired by the Bride’s Floral Dress!

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]This colorful wedding matched the hues in the bride’s gown with pink florals and vintage baby blue. Bold shades of pink and pops of blue, yellow, and orange made their summer wedding feel bright and sunny.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The bride and her planner with Bird Dog Wedding based the design of Andrew and Jillian’s wedding off of her unique Monique Lhuillier floral dress and their historic venue. The feminine and vintage touches from the dress and venue carried into all of the details of the wedding from the stationery custom crest to the tablescape floral napkins.

From the bride- “For the wedding I kept the inspiration of vintage, colorful, and romantic for the design and Emily at Bird Dog was the perfect person to help bring it to life! I chose Mattie’s because of its romantic historic charm. And I fell in love with the venue’s roaming peacocks! I found vintage peacocks at an antique store for the head table, and used them in my invites and wedding signage. I wore my grandma’s vintage clip on earrings that my mom wore on her wedding day. And I picked a floral Monique Lhuillier wedding dress to go with my love of all things colorful and romantic.”[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]From the groom- “I proposed to Jillian in front of the Forsyth Park fountain in Savannah, Ga., in January 2022. Jillian, not knowing of the impending proposal, scheduled a bike tour for that morning. So I was riding around Savannah, patting my pocket every 30 seconds to make sure the engagement ring (which belonged to my great grandmother) hadn’t fallen out. That evening, we celebrated at the historic Olde Pink House restaurant.”

From the bride- “The proposal was amazing. The ring is so special from his great grandma bought it for herself in Thailand with a Thai ruby! I really wanted a ruby ring so it was serendipitous that his family had such a gorgeous one.”[/field]

The bride’s love for anything retro was apparent with the vintage glassware and dial telephone guestbook.[/field]

We had flower girls that are my cousins kids and our ring bearer was our nephew Forest.”[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Their wedding venue Mattie’s was formerly a South Austin farm house turned restaurant in 1946. A peacock even graced it’s presence during the bridal party photos![/field]

Lemons and Limoncello Delighted Guests at this Wedding in Naples, Florida

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

From planner SBS Weddings: The couple has deep Italian family roots and first met while studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy. Naturally, they dreamed of bringing a touch of Italy to Naples for their wedding weekend, and we partnered with the best creative partners to deliver their romantic, Tuscan-inspired affair.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Dante wanted to propose before I started Optometry School in 2019, but I told him I wanted to wait longer because we knew we were planning to get married in 2023 after I graduated. He ended up proposing to me in my backyard with all of our immediate family and friends from Wake Forest. I thought we were going to a winery that night with our friends from out of town, but instead, he proposed that night to try to throw me off.

The floral palette consisted of white and cream tones, pastel blue, light toffee, buttery yellow, and soft blush. The ceremony took place in the Center Courtyard and was set directly in front of the fountain, which served as a more dramatic backdrop rather than a traditional arch or arbor. The fountain was covered and overflowing with florals, and lush arrangements lined both sides of the aisle. The same floral color palette was carried through to the reception space.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

In lieu of wedding cake, the couple chose a more traditional “Florida” dessert option of key lime pie with coconut whipped ganache, coconut sorbet, passion fruit foam, and margarita gel.

Lemons, lemons and more lemons! From planner: Mary has an affinity for lemons in general, so we brought all the lemons to cocktail hour! We wanted to keep this space more light and fun with patterned linens (ironically named lemon), bistro tables and chairs, and a statement escort wall. Guests were greeted with a custom wall featuring “Ciao, Take a Cello!” and individual bottles of fresh limoncello straight from the motherland as their escort card. Even the trees in the cocktail hour space were adorned with lemons!

Tropical Chic Wedding on Maui at Ritz Carlton Kapalua

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The colors were bright and vibrant. There were lots of dark greens, orange, yellow and tropical hues.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Kelsey and Elliott are from Colorado and connected with Mauna Creative, who is both Colorado and Maui based, before finding their venue and together we decided the Ritz Carlton was the perfect venue for their early January wedding post holidays, what better place to escape the Colorado snow and start the new year!

Their vibe was a blend of elegant and tropical and they are vibrant, joyful people and wanted to reflect that in their colors. The florals by Asa florals reflected that with more color than our more traditional weddings and brought a vision to life that was bright and celebratory. [/field]

We arrived to the photoshoot destination and while my cousin was posing me for pictures, I turned around and Elliott was on his knee. We were immediately drawn to the seafood dishes and fresh flavors of Hawaii that the Ritz had to offer. Since we knew there would be a lot of seafood and Hawaiian flavors during the wedding dinner, we opted for a traditional prime rib feast for the welcome dinner (a nod to our favorite restaurant in San Francisco, The House of Prime Rib). [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]We focused on lush elements such as the half moon arch and the overhead dance floor installation. Vibrant green couches by the dance floor and tropical hued linens tied it all together, in a brand new clear top sail cloth tent which was the finishing touch of the design as the sun shining through gave a ethereal feel to the entire design. To note, this worked great in January but would potentially be too warm in months like July and August.

At-Home Elevated Farm Chic Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Yellow, peach, orange, sage, green, aubergine, sea grass, and violet.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Because we were getting married at my parents’ farm in Athens, Georgia, we landed on the vibe of “farm chic.” We worked with Soeur Events to execute our vision of a cozy, home wedding with a modern twist. We wanted to combine traditional farm aesthetics (fields, grasses, trees, rustic finishes) with refined and sophisticated artistic flourishes from Soeur Events and Pollen Flowers & Goods. The design included everything from an embellished tree stump arrangement to direct our guests to the ceremony site to an exuberant arrangement of baby’s breath as a focal point to our ceremony. Quote from Soeur Events (event designer): “There’s something truly magical about an at-home wedding, and it’s an area where our expertise in tenting truly shines. We take immense pleasure in crafting bespoke experiences tailored to each client’s vision. For Callie, it was essential to create an event that stood apart from her sister’s, and we’re proud to say we delivered beyond expectations. Guests were greeted with refreshing cocktails on the lawn upon arrival, followed by a heartfelt ceremony in a secluded field lovingly prepared by the bride’s father. His dedication, from tending to ant hills to chopping wood, epitomized the lengths to which families go to ensure a flawless celebration. Underneath an elegant sailcloth tent, guests savored culinary delights from carefully curated stations, all in harmony with the rustic charm of the farmhouse surroundings, a vision meticulously overseen by Callie’s mother, whose impeccable interior design taste left a lasting impression.”

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

We met in Atlanta in June 2020 through mutual friends. It was the first weekend in Atlanta after the pandemic began when restaurants and bars were allowed to be open. Woody was out with his friends, and I was out with mine, and then one of our mutual friends introduced us at the restaurant. We talked at the bar in the restaurant until it closed. The proposal took place at my parent’s farm in Athens, Georgia, which later became the venue for our wedding. It’s a very special spot for us as it represents family time relaxing in the country. That weekend, my older sister Anna was coming to the farm with her family, and Woody knew I would want to drive up to see them. On Saturday morning, we went for a walk, and he proposed to me at the pond on our property. When we got back to the house, both of our families were there to celebrate. Later that day, we went to downtown Athens, and ten of my best friends surprised me at a bar with champagne in hand! It was a day full of surprises and love from family and friends! When it came to deciding where the wedding would take place, choosing the farm was easy because it’s such a special, sentimental place to us. My older sister got married there as well, and I knew that I would want to do the same someday. One of the best parts of having it there was that we were able to have all of our favorite people in a place that was so familiar and meaningful to everyone. I was so excited being able to wake up there the morning of the wedding and get ready with all my best friends in my favorite place!

I walked into my appointment at Mandi Jackson Bridal in Atlanta I thought I already knew what I wanted. But when I put on the Oscar de la Renta dress, I knew it was the one! It was something completely different than I had ever pictured myself wearing. It felt utterly timeless and I especially loved the floral applique details. We customized the dress with shoulder straps for the ceremony, which later came off for the reception. Near the end of the reception, I changed into a short dancing dress by Amur. It felt wonderful to lighten up at that point. And it was fun to wear a second dress. I chose to wear white all weekend. At the rehearsal dinner, I wore a white linen maxi by ALEXIS.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

I knew from the beginning that I did not want traditional bridesmaids dresses and thought it would be more fun for everyone to choose a dress that they felt comfortable wearing and that they could wear again! I had been a bridesmaid in at least 10 weddings, and I did not want my bridesmaids to be stuck buying one more bridesmaids dress that would only be worn once. I gave everyone a color palette of earth-toned dresses and told them the dresses could be floral or solid, so there was a mix of each. I also sent everyone some inspiration photos to help them when looking for dresses. Each bridesmaid sent me their dress prior to picking for final approval, and it ended up working out perfectly. I thought all of the dresses looked great together, and they complemented the farm’s rustic charm and blended in with the surroundings. My two sisters were my maid and matron of honor. I wanted them to stand out from the rest of the bridesmaids as they were the only ones who stood next to me during the service, so they wore matching white dresses.

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Although our wedding was in the country, we wanted a certain level of formality so the dress code was black tie. Everyone looked sharp in their tuxedos, especially Woody, who wore a classic black tux by Sid Mashburn and a black silk bowtie

After the ceremony, we passed signature cocktails to the guests. The drinks included my favorite, a margarita, and Woody’s favorite, an old-fashioned. Guests enjoyed Dennis Dean‘s passed hors d’oeuvres which included caprese skewers, lobster rolls, ahi tuna crudo and Spanish Christorra in puff pastry. Although we had originally considered doing a seated dinner, we decided that food stations would encourage guests to move around the property and sample a variety of exquisite dishes. We had four chef-attended stations, including street tacos, shrimp, and grits, leek-wrapped halibut over fettuccini, and braised short ribs with mashed potatoes. Guests mingled and ate while taking full advantage of the lounge areas designed by Soeur Events.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Quote from Pollen Flowers & Goods: “The style of the flowers needed to suit the family’s property, not only the pastoral nature of their landscape but also the modern but rustic style of the house. But, we had to be careful – we didn’t want anything to go dark or blend in too much — so we chose bright materials that would show up against the more organic elements we picked to use, like the tree stumps, baskets, and our grass pendants. We achieved this by using the white baby’s breath, white delphinium and yellow butterfly ranunculus, also bright yellow velvet ribbons. To keep these more pristine flowers feeling appropriate, we mixed in lots of foraged branches and plants that grow and bloom at that time of year. I loved that we were able to pull off a somewhat dressy event without feeling too “woodland.” I love the woodland look, but I think it can feel dated and dark if not in the right setting. This was both happy and bright while still reflecting the family’s easy and outdoorsy style.”

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

We tried to use as many local vendors as possible for our wedding, and the cake was no exception. Our favorite baker in Athens is Cecilia’s Cake Shop. After our tasting, we decided on a classic 3-tier buttercream wedding cake with vanilla and chocolate layers. Pollen Flowers & Goods adorned it with a few loose blooms of purple clematis on the vine. Just like the wedding itself, the cake was a perfect mix of traditional and rustic sophistication.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

We loved it when the band came out with horns and led us and the guests to the dance floor to transition from dinner to dancing. Our first dance together was “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. My favorite memory from the reception was dancing on stage with Woody and looking out and seeing the dance floor filled with all of our best friends and family, knowing they were having such a great time. Our band, TPG, was truly amazing and played for three straight hours.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Soeur Events orchestrated a beautiful white sailcloth tent decorated with hanging basket weave lanterns and inviting lounge areas. One of my favorite details was a large square wooden bar that served guests on all four sides so that no one had to wait in line for a drink. Milk and Honey Bartending was on hand to make cocktails all night long. Pollen Flowers & Goods decorated the bar with large foraged greenery in oversized hand-blown vases and finished with a loosely tied yellow velvet ribbon.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

We wanted to finish the evening with a bang, so we arranged to have a sparkler exit outside the tent. Although it had been sprinkling on and off that night, the rain wrapped up at just the right time (I swear Erica Missell from Soeur arranged this just for us!). We took one last look at our guests, and Woody gave me a big kiss. Then, we took off in a vintage white Buick Wildcat convertible.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]My parents were both deeply involved in preparing for the wedding since it was hosted at their home. They worked with Soeur to ensure that the house itself as well as the entire property was primed and ready for hosting our weekend. And now that it’s over, we feel so lucky that we can return there and be reminded of our wonderful wedding celebration.

A Coastal Garden Wedding in Historic Port City

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Priscilla envisioned her wedding featuring a dreamy yet coastal chic color palette that would transport her guests to the streets of Charleston, all while keeping it complimentary to the historic city hall venue. The palette comprised of mixed metallics like gold and pewter enhanced with organic garden tones like soft blush and rich greens.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The bride and groom are rooted in the historic district of downtown Brunswick so they wanted their wedding to showcase the charm the area has to offer. Since the event was hosted in April, the bride made whimsical florals centerstage to her design concept, despite the classic indoor ceremony and reception. A fun pop of print faced the bar to tie together her invitation suite, and palm-beach decor was placed on almost any surface to keep the theme.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Priscilla’s husband Brandon works in wine, and this took the couple to New York City to attend “La Fête du Champagne,” a gala celebrating champagne houses and boutiques. New York boasts hundreds of Michelin-star restaurants; with the couple being lovers of food and wine, Brandon knew this was the perfect setting to begin the rest of his life with Priscilla. Brandon surprised Priscilla with an intimate dinner at Per Se, overlooking Central Park. Their 8-course dinner concluded with a silver platter presenting a bed of orchids, in which laid the engagement ring of Priscilla’s dreams.

Old City Hall serves as a stunning venue, with rich dark wood and iconic historical elements. This baseline aesthetic made it easy to enhance its charm with whimsical garden florals and gold accents. Natascia and Adam’s wedding blended timeless elegance and fairytale magic beautifully, set in Newport, Rhode Island. It was a weekend filled with unforgettable moments and intricate details inspired by our deepest passions. As guests entered our fairytale world, they were transported to a realm where dreams met reality. Imagine a scene of regal opulence mixed with ethereal charm—delicate textiles, cascading florals, and soft candlelight. Each element was carefully chosen to evoke a sense of timeless romance, blending echoes of the past with contemporary allure. Our vows were exchanged at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with an atmosphere of magic and reverence reminiscent of John F. and Jackie Kennedy’s historic union there in 1953. Later, we celebrated at the grand Rosecliff Mansion, adorned with blooms and greenery, creating an intimate, secret garden atmosphere within a historic gilded-age mansion. The bride exuded grace in a gown fit for royalty, complemented by multiple dress changes, adding enchantment to the evening. The groom epitomized sophistication in his classic black tuxedo. Together, we embodied a vision of timeless romance, capturing a love transcending time and space. Our guests enjoyed a royal culinary journey, with each course paying tribute to our favorite flavors, family recipes, and historical highlights—featuring dishes from the RMS Titanic dinner menu and whimsical food trucks to end the night with excitement. Every culinary masterpiece was crafted to tantalize the senses, from the first sip of champagne to the final dance under the stars.

Fashion played a pivotal role in our wedding, serving as a defining element of our celebration. Natasica’s attire was a testament to her exquisite taste and flair for style. She gracefully adorned herself in three distinct dresses throughout the day, complemented by accessories from renowned designers Cartier, Jimmy Choo, and Sophia Webster. Her journey down the aisle commenced in a magnificent ballgown by Sahar Fotouhi For Panache Atelier for Panache Atelier. It was resplendent with delicate embroidery and intricate beadwork, featuring a dramatic strapless neckline that exuded timeless elegance. Paired with a cathedral-length lace veil, it was a vision of bridal splendor. Following the ceremony, Natasica transitioned into her second gown by Bert, a stunning creation characterized by its long sleeves, plunging V-neckline, and exquisite lace embellishments adorned with crystal beading. With its alluring open back, this mermaid silhouette dress perfectly captured the essence of romance and sophistication. For the final outfit change, Natasica opted for a delightful twist with a fun white flapper-style dress from Jovani. This dress paid homage to the iconic film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby,” which is significant as it was filmed at our wedding venue. This playful yet elegant ensemble added a touch of whimsy to the festivities, creating an unforgettable moment. In a delightful surprise, the bridesmaids and mother of the bride joined Natasica in embracing the flapper aesthetic, donning their own chic flapper dresses to accompany her in style. Together, they epitomized the spirit of the roaring twenties, infusing the celebration with a sense of vintage charm and joie de vivre that enchanted all present.

Natascia and Adam, both first-generation American-Italians and self-proclaimed foodies, knew that exceptional cuisine was an absolute priority for their wedding day. With a nod to their Italian heritage and love for all things culinary, they curated a culinary experience that delighted the senses and reflected their unique tastes. Partnering with Blackstone Catering, guests were treated to an array of delectable offerings, including pasta stations, antipasto platters, and a fresh Rhode Island raw bar—each dish a celebration of flavor and tradition. A highlight of the evening was the meticulously crafted bar menu featuring three signature drinks that captured the essence of their heritage, favorite movies, and beloved pets. From the refreshing Sicilian Ragdoll to the bold Heart of the Ocean and the indulgent Snippy Snickers, each cocktail was a masterpiece, complete with monogram-branded citrus peels adding a personal touch. Natascia and Adam added a heartfelt touch by incorporating cherished family recipes, including Noni’s Ricotta Cake, a beloved ode to Natascia’s grandmother. As dessert took center stage, in addition to an entire room dedicated to various desserts, guests were invited to indulge in a sweet interlude outdoors with A La Mode, a nut-free ice cream truck from NYC. This thoughtful addition catered to Natascia’s allergy and delighted everyone with its irresistibly delicious treats. The culinary journey continued with a pizza truck from A Mano, satisfying cravings with authentic wood-fired pies, and a Poffertjes station serving one of their favorite desserts. And because no celebration is complete without a late-night treat, guests enjoyed a savory surprise with late-night fare from Chick-fil-A, ensuring that the festivities ended on a delicious note. From traditional Italian flavors to inventive culinary delights, Natascia and Adam’s wedding feast was a true reflection of their heritage, their passion for food, and their commitment to creating an unforgettable experience for all who shared in their special day.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The floral design of Natascia and Adam’s wedding was a breathtaking symphony of lush romance. It incorporated an array of exquisite blooms such as roses, hydrangeas, and orchids—the latter being a touching homage to Natascia’s grandmother, who held a particular fondness for these delicate flowers. Vibrant greenery added a lush, natural element to the design, evoking a sense of timeless elegance and enchantment. Throughout the venue, guests were treated to stunning displays of floral artistry from The Wild Dahlia. From raised floral columns adorned with cascading candlelight to elaborate floral runners that adorned the tables, every detail exuded luxury and sophistication. The sweetheart table was decorated with a magnificent hanging installation, ensuring the couple was enveloped in blooms from every angle, creating a romantic oasis amidst the celebration. Florals also took center stage during cocktail hour, when guests were greeted by a magnificent floral wall boasting over 3,000 live blooms—a stunning photo backdrop. The antique Rolls Royce getaway car was adorned with a lavish floral bumper, adding a whimsy and romance to the grand exit. Cascading greenery climbed the columns of Rosecliff Mansion‘s historic marble terrace and grand staircase, lending an air of timeless beauty to the surroundings. From the ceremony’s grandeur to the reception’s intimacy, the floral design elevated every moment, creating a truly unforgettable ambiance of elegance and romance. Another integral component of the overall design was the meticulous selection of linens from BBJ La Tavola, which added a layer of elegance and sophistication to the tablescape. Blush velvets, delicate sequined floral linens, and textiles threaded with gold adorned the tables, creating a sumptuous backdrop for the celebration. Details and Swirls added a personalized touch to the venue with stunning hand-lettered ornate antique mirrors, which served as focal points throughout the space. The seating chart, table numbers, and mirrors adorned with quotes from the couple’s beloved films, such as Titanic and The Notebook, infuse the atmosphere with a sense of romance and nostalgia. These thoughtful accents added depth and character to the décor, ensuring every design element reflected the couple’s unique style and love story.

The wedding showcased a stunningly crafted wedding cake by Confectionery Designs, a true masterpiece adorned with intricate sugar florals that seamlessly complemented the ballroom’s elegant décor. Resting upon a bed of natural florals that mirrored the sugar blooms so closely, distinguishing between the two became a delightful challenge. A personalized touch was added with a sugar monogram that mirrored the custom monogram from Cartalia, tying the design together with exquisite detail. Guests were also treated to a delectable tres leches cake from Uptown, a cherished bakery in Natascia’s hometown of Connecticut. This decadent dessert added a nostalgic touch to the celebration, inviting guests to indulge in a taste of tradition and homegrown sweetness. Together, these confections elevated the culinary experience, ensuring that every moment of the celebration was as delicious as it was memorable.

Recognizing our guests’ diverse backgrounds and tastes, it was paramount to select Music that would resonate with everyone, regardless of culture or generation. The bands masterfully performed an eclectic repertoire, with a special nod to Italian Music to honor Natascia and Adam’s heritage and delight their families. The European designer Cartalia artfully created Natascia and Adam’s invitation and stationery design. The invitation suite was meticulously designed to replicate the intricate iron gates of the famed Rosecliff Mansion, featuring incredible die-cut paper details. The invite included a hand-drawn map showcasing important Newport landmarks for the weekend events, complemented by romantic calligraphy and ornate floral and flourished details reminiscent of the Gilded Age theme. The color palette of the paper encompassed shades of ivory, mauve, blush, and gold, an embossed mirror token, a velvet hard cover folder, and a custom-made shipping box for each suite. This cohesive design extended to the day-of-paper elements, including guest menus and detail signs.
