From the Bride... My high school sweetheart and I wed on June 22, 2013, after 12 years of dating and a one year of engagement. We were blessed to have had family and friends from all over the globe to celebrate with us, so our vision from the beginning was to keep the celebration fun and intimate. Living in NYC, we were looking for a nearby venue that would be a breath of fresh air from the city. Our venue was the third one we saw, and we instantly fell in love with the mix of greenery, rustic details, and modern urban vibe. We loved the idea of having a combination outdoor/indoor daytime wedding to take advantage of the beautiful summer scenery and the comfort of dancing indoors. This would allow our guests to feel comfortable moving around and enjoy the beautiful surrounding area.

Our wedding was in late June, so we wanted to celebrate the natural colors and vibrancy of the season with warm yellows, blush pinks, bright greens, and rich purples. The flowers chosen, such as billy balls and peonies, were lively and varied in textures and colors to create a sense of natural lushness. As a graphic designer by trade, I took it to heart to DIY, and designed and assembled the invitations, menus, programs, favor tags, and guestbook, and hand-cut and painted the burlap table numbers for a personal touch. We selected natural wood centerpieces to bring the outdoor feeling indoors, and placed peonies around the centerpieces for a more natural look. We also paint some of the mason jars different colors for variety, and chose miniature honey jars that said "Love is Sweet" as our favors.

Our outdoor ceremony was perfect for us because the wooden roof made it feel very private, while still allowing us to enjoy the beautiful blue sky and greenery all around us. We made some other decisions to keep the ceremony simple and natural, such as forgoing a runner to allow the natural stone to shine through, and keeping the flower arrangements in the aisles to simple ribbon-tied bouquets on Chiavari chairs. The yellow backdrop also added a very happy pop of color, and it complimented the girls' eggplant J.Crew chiffon dresses and Kate Spade necklaces. The boys were outfitted in light gray suits and gingham bow ties from Etsy. The groom is an avid basketball fan, so their glasses in their pockets was a nod to the NBA off-court fashion trend.

The dress I wore was the love child of an Alfred Angelo dress and my own dreams. For months my streamstress and I altered the top of the original dress until we ended up with a strapless, organic, floral-lined top. The ruffled bottom portion of the dress complimented the lightheartedness and casual tone of our summer wedding, and it was perfect for dancing the day away!

After the dancing, touching speeches, endless silly photo booth pictures, all filled with much laughter, finger-licking food, and a few tears of joy, we made our way to the outdoor fire pit to make our own s'mores. At the very end of it all, our guests literally surrounding us with their love as we all danced our last song together in the middle of the dance floor.
