Where the Wild Things Wed Inspiration
I love how one little darling detail has the power to inspire the style of a whole wedding, or in this case, a beautifully styled shoot crafted by Bottle Pop Party Co. and Kate Farley Design. That detail? A gilded, crown-like candlestick that resembled Max's crown in Where the Wild Things Are. From Shannon at Bottle Pop Party Co...We came across these fabulous gold candlesticks at West Elm and they immediately made us think of the beloved children's book, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. The crown detail on the candlesticks was exactly like the one Max was given by the Wild Things when he was crowned King of the Wild Things. One look in the book and we knew we wanted to design a wedding around the unique, muted color palette of mint, peach, soft yellows and stormy greys. Kate of Kate Farley Design and I styled the tablescapes, cake display, bar, accessories and guest book while being completely inspired by the adventures of Max and his journey to the island of the Wild Things. Of course, a wedding isn't normally a children's affair so we kept our wild touches reminiscent of the book and not quite so literal. The result ended up being whimsical and downright dreamy!
For the tablescape, we selected some of Kate's personal place settings from Crate & Barrel and paired it with some wood grain chargers & jadeite tumblers from Terrain at Styers, wood grain flatware from Target, and some vintage brass candlesticks mixed in with pale grey & coral taper candles. Table linens were layers of sheer chiffon in shades of stark white, nude and mint green for a very dreamy, ethereal look.
Our model exuded the wild things look with her gorgeous flowing amber locks, simple, but regal gown and perfectly accessorized with belt and shoes from Anthropologie. A faux fur blanket gave an air of wildness that is the reminiscent of the Wild Things.
We brought in lots of mint green in the vintage pieces from Brandywine View Antiques like the bench and the pie safe that held the wedding cakes. Kate from Kate Farley Design brought the peaches alive in the wild & free floral designs and in the doughnut peach table accents. Kate also lended her artistic hand for the slate signage. Dark grays and blues popped off of the table in the plates & glasses as well as in the starry night paper suite done by Papertree Studio.
