Mariah wore a stunning custom gown by Undone by Kate, which perfectly embodied the playful, celebratory feel of the night and made the welcome party a truly unforgettable start to the festivities.

Summer-Proof Wedding Hair and Makeup Tips From a Pro

Even though it may not feel this way now – Summer is right around the corner! So we can look forward to long sunny days, days by the pool, and of course, gorgeous outdoor weddings. But, with the warmer weather comes some beauty woes that even the professionals have to consider when making up their brides on the big day.

That’s why we spoke with Megan Garmers, founder of mg hair & makeup, about how she handles brides in the summer season. So whether you are a summer bride or a guest at a summer wedding, she’s got the ultimate advice on how to keep your hair and makeup summer-proof.

1. What are a few things you do special for summer brides to keep their hair & makeup intact?

Depending on the type of skin/hair a bride has, there are different products and combinations that we use to help with longevity of the bridal beauty look. For oily skin, you don’t want to have too many thick layers of product on the face. For hair, you want to make sure the hairspray is a strong hold to last even through the humidity.

2. What hairstyles do you recommend to summer brides?

Generally, the hairstyle should be however the bride feels most comfortable. On a long day at work, if she would normally put her hair up, then we suggest to do a style that would be away from her face and neck. If she feels most comfortable with her hair down, we would suggest half-up or all down depending.

The only other thing to consider (and it sounds gross but it is an important factor…) is whether or not the bride sweats on her neck and back. If so, it is best to have the hair up and away from those areas because no matter how industrial-strength the product is, when the hair is being drenched in sweat, the curl and hair will go limp and the curl and body will be gone.

3. How do you keep makeup from melting/dripping off?

The most important thing to consider for makeup longevity is the skin type. Different types of makeup work better with different types of skin. Keeping the cream or liquid complexion products to thinner layers and using pressed powder as well as powder blush are generally better choices to avoid makeup meltdowns.

4. What are some things you tell brides to do after you leave to keep them looking perfect and sweat-free?

Having brides plan their day so they are not standing in the sun between 11 am-2 pm is the best way to stay sweat-free because those are the peak sun times and will be the hottest. If you feel like you are starting to sweat, it is best to have a paper towel (the cheap brown ones are great) and press the towel on the skin to absorb the sweat/water. It is important not to rub but instead press directly down and up from the skin so the makeup will stay intact.

It is most important to address sweat as it comes up instead of waiting. The longer it stays there, the more opportunity the sweat and oil can mix to start breaking down the makeup from below (at the skin’s surface) as well as from above (sweat dripping down in rivers).

5. What are a few things guests can do at home to keep their own makeup and hair looking great at a summer wedding?

The most important thing is to know your skin and hair type so you can purchase products that are best for you. Putting your hair up is generally going to be the longest lasting because it will be pinned in place. For makeup, if you are a guest, you don’t have the pressure of being in all the photos so you can really focus on one area of your face (eyes or lips) so you can use lightweight products on the other area. Primers can help but be careful not to go overboard or make it too thick. Setting sprays can also be helpful. The good thing is that makeup products today are a million times better than 20 years ago and there are so many options to choose from.

6. Do you have any specific products you gravitate towards in the summer?

Balmain Session Spray is a great strong hold hairspray and holds up even in humid climates. Living Proof Thickening Mousse is also a great choice to help add volume to fine or thin hair. For makeup, Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer is a great choice because it is alcohol-based and waterproof. For lips, Make Up For Ever Aqua Lips are great to use and fill in the entire lip area as a waterproof base to help your lip color last longer.

7. What are some go-to summer makeup and hair looks you recommend?

The best summer looks are ones that last and don’t look too heavy. You can do a smoky eye with a bronze or plum color to add some depth without making it all black or dark. You can also do a darker lip color in a gloss so it is more sheer and seems more summer-y.

Braids are still really popular and can add interest to a simple bun or updo. They also are fairly heat and humidity-resistant so you don’t have worry about if it will look the same by the end of the night.

A Playful, Feminine Kiawah Wedding Designed With Guest Experience at Heart

We wanted it to be luxurious but not stuffy. Guest experience was always the most important thing to us; we wanted everyone well-fed, with a drink in hand, letting Kiawah’s magic wash over them.

As a true Virgo, I had already set the wedding date at the Ocean Course, so the proposal just made what we already knew official. I tried on A LOT of wedding dresses. I knew I wanted to feel completely comfortable and like myself — and a lot of the bigger, dramatic gowns made that impossible. When I went to Markarian’s showroom in Flatiron, I knew it was the place for me. Their dresses are custom, so you can mix and match fabrics and silhouettes. They are also unapologetically feminine, which suited me well.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]My friends were not going to be told what to wear. Ironically, the palette, or lack thereof, came out perfectly. With hues of yellows, pinks, and floral designs, the photos make it look like they all went shopping together. [/field]

Max had never had a custom suit, and he loved every minute of the process. He chose an ice pink shirt, which paired so nicely with the pink florals. My favorite detail is the monogram (his new initials) inside the pink lining.

Festoon is so talented. Their team assembled the most beautiful chuppah I’ve ever seen. It was Emma’s idea to mount large floral displays on columns as opposed to a floral installation on the ceiling. That idea ended up really making the overall design of the tent!

A Multi-Day Bangladeshi Wedding Blending Vibrant Tradition and Modern Romance

Hannah and Ovi’s wedding was a true fusion of their love, personalities, and culture. Rooted in tradition, they hosted Bangladeshi ceremonies that laid the foundation for their shared heritage. Each event and space was also designed to cultivate its own distinct mood. The Gaye Holud palette — rich with berry and floral tones of raspberry, blush, rose, lilac, lavender, mauve, and plum — set the tone for what the couple described as “vibrant romance meets modern garden party.”

Every day in their upper-level political science class, Hannah sat one row ahead of Ovi. And every day, Ovi found it harder to focus on anything but her. As the semester drew to a close, he knew he had to shoot his shot. Instead of a text, DM, or phone call, he sent the entire class an email inviting them to his group study session. In a follow-up email to Hannah, he slipped in his number and signed off. Hannah never showed up to these sessions until fourteen hours before the final. That night, Hannah and Ovi sat down intending to study, but ended up talking about music, family, and childhood — everything except the exam. Soon after the class ended, Ovi took Hannah on their first date to Waffle House. Years later, while they were living in New York City, he proposed. Ovi had convinced Hannah they were driving to Tennessee to visit family, but in reality, he had planned a surprise trip to Boston, a place that had always been a peaceful escape for the couple. They checked into The Eliot Hotel with their dog in tow. The next morning, Ovi brought Hannah to the Boston Public Library, where he got down on one knee. Hannah discovered her gown while watching it come down the runway at New York Bridal Fashion Week in the fall of 2024. It was the Devotion Gown by Wona Concept. She wore it with a custom (Wona Concept) cathedral-length veil that featured a blusher trimmed in lace, designed to match the delicate lace sleeves of the dress. “I was immediately drawn to the gown. I had been looking for something unique that I had not seen countless times before, but that still felt timeless and classic. The moment I tried it on, I knew I was done searching. With its romantic and whimsical feel, drop basque waist, and dramatic full skirt, the dress made me feel like a true princess.” The bride also wore a custom second look on the wedding day, designed by GL Garlate Designs, a designer from Thailand. She wanted something glamorous and full of sparkle that also included elements of Ovi’s Southeast Asian culture. This designer is well known for creating stage gowns for pageant queens such as Miss Universe, Miss Grand International, and Miss World, so she was confidentthat he could deliver the glitz she wanted. Together, they developed a custom silhouette inspired by a saree to honor Ovi’s culture and traditional Desi fashion. For the Gaye Holud, the bride wore a heavily embellished bridal lehengha from Ladlee in Atlanta, GA.

At the altar stood an asymmetrical, organic floral installation framed by the forested backdrop of the property. Inside the Grand Hall, the botanical enchantment continued with elevated centerpieces, bold color, and dramatic installations — aptly coined by the couple as “love blooming boldly.”[/field]

In April of 2023, Dalton and I were living in Nashville, TN. We had a trip planned to the beach—part work for Dalton, part weekend getaway at my parents’ house. I knew an engagement was coming, but Dalton wouldn’t give me any hints about when it might happen. When we arrived at my parents’ house, we spent the evening catching up with some of our friends. I kept asking my best friend if Dalton had mentioned anything about proposing, and she insisted she didn’t know a thing. I believed her! The next morning, my parents and their best friends—who are like godparents to me—cooked breakfast for everyone. Dalton usually has no trouble eating, but that morning he barely touched his plate. I just assumed he was hungover from the night before. Little did I know, he was incredibly nervous! Originally, Dalton had planned to propose later that evening, but with a storm rolling in, everyone worried it might ruin the moment. So the plan shifted to late morning. We were sitting on the back porch when Dalton suggested we go downstairs by the pool. I thought, “Sure, why not?” Everyone started talking about grabbing Mexican food, so I ran inside to change into jeans—thank goodness I did! When I came back out, Dalton and I were lounging by the pool when he asked if I wanted to walk out to the pier. As we sat there, two dolphins swam by—such a magical touch! Dalton kept checking his Apple Watch, which wasn’t unusual since he gets sports notifications all the time. Then, out of nowhere, he looked up and said, “Let’s head back.” I started walking quickly, and just as we passed through the gate, he stopped me, turned me around, and got down on one knee. He popped the question—yay! As I looked up, I saw my best friend standing on the back porch, surprising me with a “happy basket” full of goodies for a new bride. Dalton did an incredible job making sure the people I love most were there, while still keeping the moment intimate and special.

An Elevated Chatham Bars Inn Wedding Rooted in Family, History, and Coastal Romance

The couple noted that their long-shared history, along with friends and family who had known one another for years, made the night feel like one big family celebration.

Florals included Pippin Hills signature hydrangea path in the full bloom of August, a winding floral meadow of lush blues guiding the aisle appearing to grow up naturally from the ground, an asymmetrical floral backdrop of pillars and pots serving as the ceremony background, florals outlining the stage of the band, dripping greenery with hints of blue from all three chandeliers, different and unique chinoiserie vases belonging to the bride lining the center of serpentine tables filled with blue and white delphiniums, blue hydrangea filled vases with names and table numbers created by the brides stepmother serving as the seating chart, and floral arrangements appointing the bars and lounge chairs. Other décor featured the couples custom watercolor monogram that included their two dogs, dusty blue velvet linens, three different types of blue floral china belonging to the couple, personalized wine glasses with names that marked each place setting, custom menus and day of papers, under the china was a handwritten note by the couple thanking each guest that was only revealed after the plate had been cleared, rattan chairs, custom engraved chinoiserie fans, custom dusty blue signage, tall candelabras with blue candles, chinoiserie candles, serpentine, farm, and round tables, and other personalized mementos.

A four-tier cake with each layer including a different cake flavor and frosting with a blue floral abstract design and two clay statues of the couple’s goldendoodles. A Vignamaggio Celebration Layered in Signature Pink, Lush Greens, and Italian Romance

We included heavy greens throughout the week (particularly for the welcome dinner) to incorporate the hue of the rolling hills and vineyards surrounding the Borgo. Accent colors included light pink, peach, and antique gold to round out the palette.

We worked with Guido Guidi to build a traditional Italian menu throughout the week of events. The week opened with a live pasta cooking show for the Family Dinner, and moved to a rowdy pool party featuring a spritz bar and gelato cart. We then hosted a welcome dinner utilizing the onsite pizza oven to offer an authentic Italian pizza party. The week culminated in the wedding day, which featured an oyster bar during the aperitif and a three-course dinner with two incredible pasta courses. The signature cocktail was a favorite of the bride’s from a local spot in Denver, where the couple resides.

The ceremony flowers were a dream come true! The Borgo ceremony space featured a pergola and a view of the sweeping countryside. The bride’s vision was an overflowing meadow-like aisle, and Tuscany Flowers delivered! The existing arch was dressed in lush greenery and colorful pops of blooms. The vision for the floral was colorful and lush with abundant candlelight. The bride discovered the round, wooden tables with the unique base during a planning visit to Tuscany. The beautiful, sleek finish of the tables allowed for a linen-less look without being rustic. The star of the tablescapes was the gorgeous Versace charger plates, featuring an intricate floral and butterfly design.

One of the most unique elements was the Krystal Kuartet – an electric string quartet that provided music for both the ceremony and the aperitif. The ladies dressed in gorgeous pink gowns and played unplugged for the ceremony, then changed into stunning black sequined dresses and plugged in to play with tracks for the aperitif. Such a fun entertainment element!

Once the band was finished, guests were moved into the underground disco at the Borgo, where a DJ and live saxophone player kept the party rocking into the wee hours of the morning! [/field]

The venue, Il Borgo di Vignamaggio, was the perfect backdrop for this weeding week. The bride and I (Denae Brennan – wedding planner) traveled to Italy in 2024 to tour venues literally all over the country. Vignamaggio was the final stop on our trip and it was clear right away that it was exactly what the couple had been envisioning. The setting among vineyards and rolling Tuscan hills is like a dream. The interior spaces, including all of the onsite guest rooms, were stunning and thoughtfully designed. The event spaces were plentiful and provided many options for hosting multiple events. There are so many wedding villa venues in Italy, and Vignamaggio definitely stands out in the crowd!

Paper and intentional design details were incredibly important to Kristen, and we wanted every printed element to feel connected and purposeful. The story culminated on the dancefloor with a custom twenty-five-by-twenty-five-foot design in all white, adorned with the couple’s bespoke monogram at the center. Hand-drawn florals framed the perimeter, perfectly mirroring the artwork from their save-the-dates and invitation suite. This thoughtful continuity created a seamless visual narrative and ensured that every guest felt the depth of care and artistry woven into the celebration. It was a striking and sentimental centerpiece for the evening, where the couple shared some of their most meaningful moments surrounded by those they love.

Kristen shared an especially close bond with her late grandmother, and it was important to her that they still held a “seat” at the ceremony. We created custom acrylic frames featuring each grandparent’s photo and name, placed lovingly on reserved chairs and adorned with lush white florals.

A Southern-Inspired Garden Party in the Heart of Wine Country

Liz Barrella knew we wanted colorful flowers of pinks, oranges, & creams, as well as string lights over our dinner tables amongst the vineyards, and she executed it perfectly. I knew that I wanted pinks and oranges, something colorful to keep the summary vibe going in September. I showed Liz a few photos of flowers that included dahlias and hydrangeas, and she made the vision come to life 100x better than what I had pictured.

Our wedding was like a southern garden romantic outdoor party. Our colors were pinks, oranges, purples, and creams. We had white and green hydrangeas as well. Our ceremony has red umbrellas out, our cocktail hour at pink and white linens, and our reception tables each had white scalloped plates with pink champagne saucers, and our pink/orange flowers spread about. For signature drinks, we went with a menu of 4 cocktails: espresso martini, Cosmopolitan, Key Lime Margarita (Ali’s dad’s iconic signature drink), and perfect Manhattan. The whole day and night was an absolutely beautiful vibe.

Our love story is effortless, timeless, joyful & full of adventure. Jake and I went to college together at Susquehanna University, him 2 years older than me, but we didn’t meet until afterwards, down the beach in our favorite place. The first time we met in Stone Harbor/Avalon, we knew right away by the comfort and compatibility with one another that we were a fit, forever. Jake proposed in our happy place in Avalon, NJ. He made me think we were going to dinner with his family for Father’s Day, like we do every year. We stopped at his parents’ beach house for a drink before, walked down to his parents’ dock that lies on the bay (like we always do!), and before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Of course, I said yes, and we turned around to all our family members cheering. It was the greatest surprise of all time. Later that night, after Jake and I took sunset engagement photos on the beach, all our friends surprised us back at hisparents’s beach house. It was the best night of surprises and celebrations.

I tried on maybe 10 different dresses, and the one that I fell in love with was probably dress #9, picked out by the stylist, not myself. The girls there made me feel so special and elegant in every dress I tried on, with my mom, maid of honor, and future sister in law by my side. My dress was strapless that hugged me in the waist, but came out in a very traditional wedding dress way. It also had a slit up the side to show some leg. [/field]

We had hor dourves of coconut shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops, honey mango pulled pork, caprese skewers, and raspberry chicken. We also had a seafood display and a quesadilla display. Our favorites were the bacon-wrapped scallops! We served filet Mignon, salmon with lobster sauce, and pasta primavera. Everything was divine! We had 4 drinks on our menu: an espresso martini, cosmo, key lime margarita, and perfect manhattan.

The bouquet was filled with pinks, yellows, reds, and peach coloring. Some of the florals featured were Dahlias as they began to grace the season. The bridesmaids had a smaller bouquet with the same pops of color. The ceremony featured a floor floral backdrop with two floor pieces entering the ceremony. Wooden chairs and umbrellas that were both functional and aesthetically appealing. The chairs would later transition to the ceremony, where they had both patterned and solid linens. An inviting sitting area featuring a couch and chairs. and a memorable seating chart that was hand-painted, featuring a pattern in the background.

We got a 3-tiered funfetti, vanilla, and chocolate wedding cake from our favorite bakery, Sweet Eats Bakery. The funfetti was a personal favorite of both of us that was a must-have at our wedding!

Steven, Ali’s brother, did a wonderful job at officiating our wedding by writing a short speech on Jake and I’s upbringings and love story. One, having Steven (Ali’s brother) officiate the wedding was beyond special and sentimental. Two, we embraced color in our wedding, which not a lot of couples do. The flowers made everything so beautiful. And three, the weather. We had a 100% weather dependent weather in September, and it could not have been more perfect – 75 and sunny. Someone was looking out for us!

Willow Creek will always hold a special place in our hearts. It’s where we had our first “real” date. This date we chatted over wine and dinner for hours on end, and we had to Uber home. For years, I dreamed of a garden party wedding. The soft florals, whimsical fabrics, and fresh air always felt like the perfect vibe. But I also had my heart set on Crystal Bridges as my venue—which, of course, is indoors. Still, what I love most about Crystal Bridges is how it brings the outside in. With its stunning floor-to-ceiling glass and light, airy architecture, it felt like the perfect blend of elegance and nature. It’s been my dream venue since the first time I visited. As someone who adores interior and event design, I’ve basically had my wedding planned out on Pinterest since high school. I knew I wanted to incorporate playful, romantic fabrics and a color palette that felt soft and fresh—think pink and green (or “blush and bashful,” if you ask my mom). My incredible wedding planner, Terri Court with Amanda Reed Weddings, helped bring that vision to life. She worked magic with the color scheme, layering different shades to add depth and dimension to the space. It was everything I imagined and more. Florals were a huge part of creating that garden party feel, and Samantha’s Garden absolutely blew me away. Their arrangements were breathtaking—guests are still talking about them! The team poured so much love into every detail and made us feel so cared for throughout the process. I truly couldn’t imagine our day without them. Every vendor on our dream team helped make our wedding not just a reflection of our vision, but something even more beautiful than we imagined. It was the garden party I had always dreamed of—an incredibly beautiful reflection of Josh and me, our love, and the beginning of our forever as husband and wife.

It was April 2024—my 24th birthday weekend! Many of my friends had moved away after college for jobs, and my parents live in Texas, so having everyone in town felt extra special. The weather was warming up, spring was in the air, and it seemed like the perfect time to celebrate. My friends planned a little birthday get-together at City Park in Fayetteville, and it was such a fun Friday night filled with cake, drinks, and so many of my favorite people. While I was flattered that friends flew and drove in just for my birthday, I had a feeling something else might be happening that weekend… but I played along. When my parents arrived, they told me they had made a reservation at Atlas—a beautiful, upscale restaurant off the Fayetteville square—to celebrate. That definitely tipped me off a little, but it also made me dress up, which I was thankful for later! Josh picked me up from my house, and we started driving toward “Atlas.” As we passed Old Main Lawn, I saw one of his friends—who’s a photographer—standing there with a full proposal setup. I immediately started crying. Josh grabbed my hand, walked me to the spot, and dropped to one knee to ask the best question ever: “Will you marry me?” It was the easiest yes of my life. Right after, our friends popped out from behind the trees, and we all celebrated together. Later that evening, we headed to my parents’ Airbnb in Bentonville, where our families and friends were waiting to throw us the sweetest engagement party. We popped champagne, shared stories, laughed, and dreamed about the year of wedding planning ahead. Josh and I met at the University of Arkansas, giving campus tours, so getting engaged on Old Main Lawn was not only beautiful—it was deeply meaningful. He couldn’t have planned a more perfect proposal.

The team at Warren Barron made every step—from dress shopping to multiple rounds of personalized fittings—feel so special. The women there were warm, attentive, and made me feel truly beautiful and like a bride. As it turns out, my dress was the very first one I tried on. It was called “Baby’s Breath”—a sweet detail that perfectly matched the floral, whimsical vibe of our wedding day. The gown featured stunning floral lace and 3D embellishments that gave it a feminine, romantic, and timeless feel. It was everything I had envisioned: soft, whimsical, and classic, yet with a modern, structured silhouette that felt so fitting for a wedding at an art museum. When I first tried it on, it brought tears to everyone’s eyes. And on our wedding day, when I finally got to show Josh, it brought even more. Marrying the love of my life in a gown that felt so “me,” yet so elevated, was truly unforgettable. I wish I could wear it every day.

The dresses were one-shoulder with the sweetest, most subtle little bow detail. One of my favorite touches was the getting-ready look—I found hand-sewn silk pajamas on Etsy in the same shade of pink, with bows tied on the shoulders to match the dresses. I loved that they got to get ready in those, and that their looks coordinated so perfectly from start to finish!

The food, beverages, and staffing were all handled in-house, which made the planning process seamless. But more than that, every person we worked with was incredibly kind and thoughtful — it truly felt like they were invested in making our day special. Josh, my sweet husband, knew how long I had been dreaming about our wedding and how much I cared about the design and details. He was so supportive of my vision and let me take the lead on most decisions. That said, food was one area he felt strongly about, and it was so much fun to share that part of the planning with him. Our tasting, several months before the wedding, was one of the highlights of the process. We were both blown away by the variety and quality — everything was so delicious that narrowing down the menu was genuinely difficult. During cocktail hour, we offered a curated selection of passed hors d’oeuvres that reflected both our tastes and the local flavor. Guests enjoyed crab cakes with Southern remoulade and fresh dill, stuffed peppadew peppers filled with pimento cheese (Josh’s absolute favorite), Humboldt Fog crostini topped with Amarena cherries and toasted almonds, and smoked Arkansas trout pâté served on rice crackers with cucumber and chive. As guests entered cocktail hour, they were greeted with glasses of champagne and wine, and we had a fully staffed open bar where they could order their favorite cocktails or try local Arkansas beers — a fun and personal touch, especially since we’re a big brewery family and had lots of out-of-town guests. Dinner was just as memorable. We started with a harvest salad made with baby lettuce, dried blueberries, chèvre, toasted pecans, and a maple balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course, guests chose between a beef tenderloin filet with rosemary-cabernet demi-glace, garlic whipped potatoes, and asparagus, or peppercorn-brined chicken served with chipotle sweet potatoes, broccolini, and chimichurri sauce. Tableside wine service added a lovely touch, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the evening without leaving their seats. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the food — it was one of the most complimented parts of the night. Everyone was well-fed, happy, and ready to dance, drink, and celebrate. The joy in the room was palpable, and having all our favorite people together made it the most unforgettable night.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Where to begin?! Dreaming up June 21st with my incredible wedding planner, Terri, was everything I could’ve hoped for and more. I came in with a ton of ideas — a clear vision, color scheme, and vibe — but Terri’s attention to detail and creative talent took everything to a level I couldn’t have imagined. Seeing the ceremony and reception space for the first time brought my mom and me to tears. It was breathtaking and exceeded every dream I had. From the moment Josh and I got engaged, I knew florals would be the centerpiece of our wedding design. I had this vision of sage green ginger jars filled with lush arrangements, and once I nailed down our color palette, I began the hunt for the perfect jars. They became a signature element throughout the space — in the cocktail hour lounge, as part of our stunning seating chart display, and trailing the end of the head table. Terri sourced beautiful rattan jars to mix in, and we repurposed our floral arch from the ceremony to frame the head table, creating a gorgeous statement piece and photo backdrop for guests. Another design detail I poured my heart into was the linens. I’ve always had a passion for design, and mixing patterns was a way to bring our colors together and make the space feel uniquely ours. The first linen I fell in love with was from Nuage Designs — a sage green lattice pattern with white embroidery that we used on the head table. Another favorite was a floral pattern from BBJ La Tavola that tied all our colors together beautifully. We used it on the entry table, guest tables, cocktail tables, and most memorably, on our custom seating chart. Mary Claire Pfeifer of Modern Details NWA created a wallpaper-style backdrop using the fabric, and it was one of those small but impactful details that brought the entire design together. We even matched pillow covers in the lounge area to our table linens — no detail was missed, and it was one of my favorite aspects of the wedding. And then there were the florals. Samantha’s Garden created arrangements that were nothing short of magical. Their passion for their work and the people they serve was evident in every moment — from Diana, the owner, praying over me in the makeup chair, to the joy on their faces when they saw our reactions to the reception space. Their character and care were just as meaningful as their artistry. The ceremony space featured a floral arch, aisle flowers, a custom watercolor runner from Original Runner Co., and the most beautiful summer light streaming through the glass — it was ethereal. Cocktail hour was another area I put a lot of thought into. We had a stunning circular bar from Alchemy Event Rentals, wrapped in custom vinyls featuring our wedding crest and a sweet floral trellis pattern. It felt like a garden party dream. The bar was adorned with rattan cone lamps (which now live in our home), lush florals, and personalized touches like custom stir sticks, napkins, and koozies — all made by me! The lounge area was perfect for guests to relax and mingle, with ginger jars, floral arrangements, and custom pillows that matched our linens. The standing cocktail tables featured a mix of our favorite patterns, and our seating chart — again, thanks to Mary Claire — was a showstopper, featuring the “Maya Duck Egg” linen from BBJ La Tavola. As we moved into the reception at Eleven at Crystal Bridges, the space was transformed. We repurposed all the ceremony florals, including the arch, which made the room feel lush and full. Flowers lined the stage façade, the head table, guest tables, and even created a floral bay around the cake table, complementing our 3D floral cake that mimicked my wedding dress. The tables featured linens from Nuage Designs, BBJ La Tavola, and Stradley Davidson, with soft pink napkins that matched the cake table linen. Samantha’s Garden created what they called a “candle garden” — clusters of floating candles that added a romantic glow. One special detail on our head table was the charger plates. We rented feminine, scalloped chargers from Posh Couture Rentals in Dallas that had a trellis-like pattern, perfectly blending with our overall design. And then there was the dance floor — a true labor of love. The entire Amanda Reed Weddings team helped bring it to life. It featured our crest in the center, surrounded by a subtle floral trellis pattern in our wedding colors, with a sage green trim that tied everything together. We carried this pattern into the stage and bar vinyls as well, creating a cohesive and beautiful look. We danced the night away until our final dance and streamer exit. Designing our wedding with Terri was truly a dream come true. It felt like us in every way — intentional, joyful, and full of love. It was over a year of behind-the-scenes work poured into one unforgettable day, and not a single detail was missed. June 21, 2025, will forever be one of the most cherished days of our lives, and we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who helped make it the perfect start to our forever.[/field]

Our wedding cake was from Shelby Lynne’s Cake Shoppe in Springdale, and it was such a fun part of the planning process — especially for Josh, who was just as excited about cake tasting as he was about food tasting (we both have a major sweet tooth!). The cake was five tiers, and the design was modeled after the texture and lace of my wedding dress. Jennifer, the owner of the most charming little shop, looked at just two photos of my dress (with Josh waiting outside, of course) and somehow brought it to life so beautifully through the cake design. There were delicate floral embellishments that looked like cascading baby’s breath, and the whole cake became a stunning focal point in our reception space. One of my favorite parts? It stayed up all night — because it was actually fake! We cut into a small section that was real, and Shelby Lynne made several sheet cakes behind the scenes to serve our guests. That way, instead of having a torn-apart cake sitting out, we got to keep that gorgeous piece of edible art on display the entire evening. We did our cake cutting to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers — a special request from my dad, since it’s one of his favorite songs. We used the most beautiful personalized cake forks, gifted to us by the Amanda Reed Weddings team, and they’re something we’ll cherish forever. Before we know it, we’ll be using them again to enjoy our anniversary tier! As for flavors, we went all out: brown butter pineapple (Josh’s favorite and the one we cut into), Hummingbird (my favorite), lemon cream (our anniversary tier), and chocolate ganache. Every bite was just as delicious as it was meaningful.

For the ceremony, we had a local cellist — Cello by Austin — play all of our music, which added such a beautiful and emotional atmosphere to the moment. After the ceremony, a jazz trio from Smoothman Music led us into cocktail hour, with the saxophone setting the tone as guests transitioned into the next part of the evening. They played throughout cocktail hour, and it was such a hit — everyone loved it. For the reception, we did all of our special dances to recorded songs that were meaningful to us. Josh and I had our first dance to “At Last” by Etta James — a romantic classic that felt so timeless and perfect. My dad and I danced to “Letting You Go” by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit. Jason Isbell is from my dad’s small hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, so it was a sweet and personal choice that we both loved. Josh and his mom danced to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman, which was such a fitting and sweet moment — the Rhodes family loves all things Disney, so it couldn’t have been more perfect. Josh and I cut our cake to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers, which was a special request from my dad since it’s one of his favorite songs — and it truly was the loveliest day. For the rest of the reception, we had an amazing local band, Funk Factory, and they kept the party going all night long. The dance floor was packed, the energy was incredible, and we truly never wanted it to end.[/field]

One of the most meaningful details from our wedding day was a small but deeply sentimental keepsake. My mom lovingly transformed my baptismal bonnet — handmade by my aunt when I was a baby — into a delicate handkerchief. She embroidered Josh’s and my initials along with our wedding date in soft blue thread, adding a “something blue” that was both personal and symbolic. That handkerchief wiped away many happy tears throughout the day and became one of the most cherished items from our celebration. We plan to pass it down to our children for their own wedding days, adding their initials to it over time and continuing its legacy as a treasured family heirloom.

For our reception party favors, we wanted something fun, personal, and memorable — so we had trucker hats passed around the dance floor that read “All Rhodes Lead Home.” If wedding hashtags are still a thing, that was ours. But more than just a clever phrase, it holds a sweet story. Back in college, Josh and I had only been dating for a couple of months. I was living in the sorority house with one of my best friends, Caroline, who later became one of my bridesmaids. I was already completely smitten and convinced we were going to get married. (Fun fact: after our first date, my maid of honor recorded a video of me saying, “I’m going to marry that man”… and well, here we are!) Caroline was fully on board with my daydreaming and helped me imagine the perfect wedding. She came up with the hashtag “All Rhodes Lead Home,” and it instantly stuck. It felt so right — a play on Josh’s last name and a reflection of the life we were building together. I knew I had to include it in our wedding somehow, so I hand-made trucker hats with the phrase printed on them. Seeing our guests dancing with them is such a fun and meaningful moment.

NYC Meets Lowcountry: A Colorful Moss-Draped Barn Wedding on Kiawah Island

We quickly became inseparable and dated throughout our time in college (known as POTOC and FLOTOC at the Owl Club fraternity), across distance as we started work, during the pandemic (where Jared graciously quarantined with Hannah’s family for months), and through career changes (we both just graduated from Columbia Business School!) before tying the knot.

A Collected, Cocktail-Forward Wedding Along the Chesapeake

When choosing the wedding colors, I decided to use the backdrop of the Chesapeake as my inspiration. The blue of the river and the lush green grass created the best color palette. In general, blues and whites were what we kept with.

The design for the wedding had been in my mind for close to a year before the engagement. The overall vibe was the best cocktail party you’ve ever hosted at your home. I knew that making people feel like they were in our home meant bringing in furniture and decor that felt true to us. I have been a collector of antiques for years and wanted those pieces to be on display. The gorgeous Ormolu pieces gifted from my mother were on the large bar, and the lounges were adorned with brass, books, and lamps from our home. March loves to collect driftwood from Virginia, so we added those pieces to the cocktail tables. Everything had a pla,ce and no details were spared. Other small details that I loved were the outfits the servers wore. They each wore custom aprons with our couple’s monogram on the front and a navy blue bow tie. The tray they carried had other Chinoiserie prints, and the cocktails had stir sticks with Huckleberry wearing a bowtie. The original design of the tent started with a 40′ bar that stretched down the back of the tent, allowing the guests a place to sit and enjoy the view. We did custom woodworking on the end caps and used a beautiful Chinoiserie paper to, once again, bring in a favorite design of mine. I then decided that we needed two round bars on either end of the tent. At no point did I want a guest to be waiting on a drink or not have a place to sit. With the cocktail party in mind, lounges were placed by the water and on either side of the dance floor with rugs under each to make gathering space within the tent. All bars had to have seating. The bars had nut trays and small lamps to create an intimate setting. The drink menus were created using a cane backing to add texture and visual interest to the space. For the dance floor, I continued with the blue but decided on a pattern to draw your eye to the center of the tent. Because I kept the color palette limited, I really wanted to use lighting to set the tone. I decided to hang pendant lights over the length of the back bar and light each lounge and circle bar withpinpointt lighting, allowing them to glow in the evening. As the sun went down, we had lighting wash the tent that changed with the music throughout the evening. It kept the energy up and set the tone for each stage. I wanted it to truly feel like you were in our home and you were the most special guest, because you were. From the first time I went to March’s childhood home, I was in love. Virginia, and especially Kilmarnock, was a very special place for him and has become one of my favorite places. Its a place you instantly feel at home. The home is picturesque, and the water is inviting and calming. Choosing this special place was the easiest part of the design process. My goal when designing the wedding was to make the guests feel what we feel when we visit Virginia. There was this cute little venue in the nearby town, called Camp, that we loved to visit to have a bottle of wine and sit by the fire pits. We knew this would make the best spot for a relaxed welcome party. We had a wood-fired pizza truck brought in from Richmond and a bluegrass band to join. It was lighthearted and set the tone for a comfortable and love-filled weekend. When it came to the wedding itself, I wanted every hour orchestrated, and not to make the evening stiff, but to make it feel effortless. When arriving at a wedding, I always noticed that everyone wants to meet and greet with friends and family they haven’t seen in a while. With this in mind, I thought, let’s do a cocktail hour with a full bar and oysters, Olde Salts, of course, our favorite. The most amazing electric violinists, Tiffany Shanta, who I might add plays with Michael Buble. She entertained the guests with current and old songs. The guests were then brought to their seats, and we did sing-along to “Little Help From My Friends,” by Joe Cocker, as March and our sweet dog, Huckleberry, made their way to the front. This was a song that was a favorite of my mother’s and March’s. With Tiffany playing alongside, the wedding party walked down to “Bittersweet Symphony,” by David Garrett, my all-time favorite version. After we said “I do,” it was time to party! Servers immediately served guests Champagne from my mother’s antique silver trays as they made their way to the tent.

With the passing of March’s mother in 2021, he wanted a way to incorporate her into the proposal. He decided that Mother’s Day weekend would be the perfect time. Karen was in bed, awaiting her morning coffee, watching cat videos, when March brought her her coffee. She was too busy laughing watch the video where the guy accidentally pushed the cat filter on his Zoom call, and he’s trying to tell the judge he isn’t a cat, to even notice he was on one knee! When she did, she said, “wait why are you on one knee?!?” She knew why. And with a simple asking of her hand, they were engaged.

I wanted the florals to be impactful but not overwhelming. I decided to do larger arrangements on the 40′ bar and large center arrangements in the middle of the two circle bars. Over the dance floor, we went with a large circle arrangement above the dance floor. Smaller arrangements were placed throughout the lounges and dinner tables. We kept with blues and whites and kept the blooms light and airy. The arch for the ceremony was used later as the entrance for the tent.

Bold and bright colored florals made for spectacular statement pieces to brighten their sailcloth tent on this rainy spring day in Virginia. With two large hanging installations, full of structure, movement, and texture, on either side of the dance floor, and pops of color via candles and florals in the tablescapes, the design was completely bespoke. Watercolor menus and table numbers carried through the wildflower and garden theme, and the names of the tables were meaningful places in the couple’s relationship. The colorful vibes were also continued with colored, pastel fluted glassware.

The couple opted out of having a wedding cake in favor of a dessert table, filled with small-bite options for the guests to munch on while they danced.

The couple chose to emphasize their partnership in their ceremony, fusing Jewish and Western traditions with their own ideas. Instead of the bride walking down the aisle to meet her groom, they had each set of their parents walk them to meet at the start of the aisle. The parents exchanged hugs, and then the couple joyfully walked down the aisle together. They also circled each other and broke the glass together at the end of the ceremony. Instead of traditional flower girls, the couple had “flower grandparents,” who tossed petals to start the ceremony.

The bride held a mono-floral bouquet of six white tulips, one tulip to represent each bridesmaid and their importance in her life. This not only created understated romance, but it was also a sweet tribute to her wedding party.
