Classic Vineyard Wedding in Portugal at Six Senses Douro Valley

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]White / very light nudes and lots of greenery to match with the vineyard view.
[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The wedding ceremony was set against a stunning vineyard backdrop, with white and light nude florals and plenty of greenery to complement the natural beauty of the location. The floral arrangements were designed to look like they were growing from the ground, avoiding the use of floral foam for a more sustainable approach. The bride’s dress was elegantly simple, ensuring she stood out against the stunning floral and landscape backdrop.

For the cocktail hour, natural and raw materials were used for the furniture, including wicker, natural wood, linen upholstery, and fresh flowers in recycled paper vases. The furniture was designed to match the pool deck and the overall aesthetic of the hotel.

The dinner reception was a modern and contemporary affair, with a custom-made wooden pergola creating the perfect natural vine structure for the occasion. The florals featured a touch of orange to match the color of the old manor venue, with 100% linen napkins and plenty of taper candles and tealights. The cutlery, china service, and glassware were carefully chosen to match the menu and the overall style of the event. Lounge areas and a bar structure were set up to create a club-like atmosphere, while the audio-visual team did an incredible job with the DJ set.

Italian Garden Wedding at La Foce Steeped in Rich History

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

White, Black, Green, Creams

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

This Tuscany garden wedding is characterized by its romantic, rustic, and charming atmosphere. The design, vibe, and vision for such a wedding aim to capture the essence of the picturesque landscapes and timeless, classic beauty of Tuscany, Italy.

From the Bride… “Selecting La Foce as our venue was an easy decision—it simply captivated us with its undeniable charm and breathtaking beauty.

Planning a wedding in Toronto presented several challenges. Between the soaring costs of living (and weddings!) and the post-COVID scramble for prime dates extending into 2024, we decided to broaden our horizons. Our search led us overseas to France and Italy, two countries dear to us as we have family residing in both.

That’s when we enlisted the help of our fantastic wedding planner, Charlotte. Based in London, she’s fluent in both Italian and French, making her the ideal liaison between us and our dream destination.

Stefan and I were intent on creating a unique experience for our guests. We sought a venue where everyone could stay together, within a two-hour drive from an international airport, and equipped with amenities that our predominantly North American guests would appreciate—like air conditioning and private washrooms.

La Foce, steeped in rich history and unparalleled beauty, met all these criteria. At the heart of our relationship, Stefan and I share a profound love for history, a deep admiration for prolific European architecture, and an appreciation for stunning natural landscapes. La Foce and the Val D’Orcia region encapsulate all of this and more with their incredibly rich heritage. It felt truly special to intertwine our story with such a historic site, creating memories that we’ll cherish forever.”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]In the words of the bride, Justine, “Stefan chose to propose during a moment that was quintessentially us – walking our dog, Stark, through the historic St. George campus of the University of Toronto, where I did my MBA. This part of the city holds many fond memories for us, and we’ve always been drawn to its stunning Victorian architecture and picturesque scenery.

Stefan did his best to keep the whole thing a secret, but let’s just say subtlety isn’t his strong suit! He enlisted a friend to set up a surprise – a bottle of champagne and flowers – in front of one of the oldest buildings on campus. She was even stealthy enough to capture the entire event on video.

In retrospect, one of the funniest parts of the day was watching footage of a stranger discovering the hidden setup and snapping photos, literally seconds before we arrived. It was a close call, but it all added to the fun of the day. “[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

From the Bride… “My main dress was a stunning piece from Galia Lahav. I first laid eyes on it at a Galia Lahav trunk show, and I instantly knew it would be a top contender. The moment I put it on, I was hooked. The gown was originally designed with stunning, ultra-feminine tuile sleeves, which looked incredibly angelic, but didn’t resonate with my personality and personal style. Throughout my life, I’ve always leaned more towards bold, less traditionally feminine styles. For my wedding, I wanted to add a touch of edginess to my look. The sheer illusion of the gown, coupled with the custom-designed pointed sleeves that were created in lieu of the tuile sleeves, struck the perfect balance between unexpected edginess and the soft romanticism you’d expect from a Tuscan garden wedding.

For my other outfits, I enlisted the help of Canadian stylist Rachel Dunford. She curated outfit recommendations for the welcome dinner, reception dress, and civil ceremony, cleverly incorporating both new items and pieces I already had in my closet. Rachel made sure each look was a perfect fit for the venue, event, and most importantly, me. Her expertise gave me the confidence that all my looks would be spot-on, allowing me to focus my energy on other aspects of the planning process.

Overall, it was super fun to wear such a stunning creation that so many people had put in so much hard work and love into making, and it was such a perfect reflection of my personality and style.

I was also super excited to finally show Stefan the dress. We’ve lived together for years and we typically bounce ideas off of one another for our day-to-day style, so having him not see the dress prior to the first look was a big build-up, especially as he had known there was a lot of effort (and stress!) that went into the customization of the sleeves.

His reaction at the first look was perfect – he immediately exclaimed “this is the coolest dress I’ve EVER seen” – that will forever be a core memory for me.”

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Tuscany is famous for its simple yet flavorful dishes that celebrate fresh, high-quality ingredients. Aperol sprtiz and a gelato bar were of course provided to guests. Guests enjoyed the following:
Bruschetta: Grilled bread rubbed with garlic, drizzled with olive oil, and topped with fresh tomatoes and basil.
Risotto with Saffron: Creamy risotto flavored with saffron, a spice often used in Tuscan cuisine.
Bistecca alla Fiorentina: A famous Tuscan T-bone steak, typically grilled and seasoned with salt and pepper.
Fagioli all’Uccelletto: White beans cooked with tomatoes, garlic, and sage, Arugula salad with shaved Parmesan, dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]A white and green wedding floral theme, especially in the gardens of La Foce, complements the natural beauty and evokes a sense of timeless elegance. Adding chandeliers to the outdoor setting can further enhance the romantic and enchanting atmosphere. The couple chose a unique table formation in the shape of an “X” with a set of abundant, tall chandeliers in the center. Chandeliers seemingly suspended from tree branches adds a touch of glamour.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The cake was kept small, simple and classic. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

From the Bride… “The music throughout the day was a mix of our individual and shared favorite songs. One particularly special aspect of our wedding music was the live performances – my cousin, who’s more like a brother to me, is a professional cellist based in Florence. He collaborated with his friends and colleagues to create an unforgettable musical experience for our wedding.

He generously devoted his time and energy to personally arrange some of our favorite songs for the string quartet. After playing in the ceremony, he handed off his spot in the quartet to another musician so he could join the celebration. His personal touch on the music added a special layer of meaning, not just because he’s family, but also because it allowed us to incorporate unique musical elements into our day.

For instance, I’ve been a huge fan of Taylor Swift for nearly two decades (yes! seriously!). Thanks to my cousin’s hard work and creativity, we were able to include beautiful string arrangements of some of my favorite Taylor Swift songs that we couldn’t find already arranged for string quartets online.

Our first dance was to “And Then Some” by The Arkells, a song that holds a dear spot in our hearts. We first heard it together at a live concert years ago—it was a significant event as we have vastly different musical tastes and had never attended a concert together until then. Stefan has known one of the band members since childhood, so we really had no excuse not to go. I wasn’t very familiar with the band at the time, but the moment we heard this song, we both knew it would always hold special significance for us. In fact, we declared right then and there that “And Then Some” would be our first dance song. And true to our word, it was!”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]La Foce is a historic estate located in the Val d’Orcia region of Tuscany, Italy, known for its stunning gardens and picturesque landscapes.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

From the Bride… “The most special part of the day, without a doubt, was having all our friends and family gathered in one place. Stefan and I have loved ones spread across the globe, and we belong to several different friend groups due to living in multiple cities and attending different universities and grad schools. So, bringing everyone together to celebrate with us was truly the highlight of our wedding.

It’s a rare and precious experience to have so many people you love in one place, sharing in your joy—it’s a gift beyond compare. We feel incredibly fortunate to have shared this momentous occasion with our favorite people.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

From the Bride… “Without a doubt, the best decision we made was to tailor our wedding in a way that truly reflected us as individuals and as a couple.

Instead of following trends or adhering to a specific theme, we examined every element of the day and decided what felt right for us, and what told our story. We didn’t include any wedding traditions “just because,” nor did we succumb to pressure to conform to trends that didn’t resonate with us. For instance, we skipped the traditional wedding cake—a moment we never really connected with—and instead opted for a champagne tower and toast to kick off the dancing.

Our Australian Shepherd, Stark, who is quite literally the center of our universe, couldn’t make the trip to Italy but was very much present in spirit. He was featured in our officiant’s speech, our vows, and even inspired our cocktail hour. We traded the conventional his-and-her cocktails for playful variations based on his personality, dubbing them “Stark the Good Boy” and “Stark the Sassy Boy” cocktails.

By focusing on our intentions rather than themes or traditions, we were able to shape the day into a beautiful blend of all the things that define us—our backgrounds, values, and favorite things. This included honoring Stefan’s Serbian roots with traditional sprigs of rosemary for our guests and selecting a team primarily composed of women-owned and led small businesses from parts of the world that hold significance to us or our heritage. A prime example of this was our stationery, designed and made in Scotland, where my father’s family hails from.

In essence, we crafted a celebration that wasn’t bound by tradition but was deeply meaningful and personal to us. And looking back, we wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

Barcelona Destination Wedding in an Enchanting Villa Designed by Antoni Gaudí’s Right-Hand Architect

[section title=”The Planning”]

The wedding colors were magenta, pinks, and creams.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Kathy and Dan got married on a summer day in La Baronia, an Art Nouveau-style mansion surrounded by the lavish nature of Catalunya, designed by Joan Rubio, the righthand architect of Antoni Gaudí’. Kathy and Dan had always dreamt of having a destination wedding due to their diverse backgrounds and love for travel. With Dan coming from Israel and Kathy’s extended family in Taiwan, they wanted a location that would bring everyone together. Living in Tokyo and being avid travelers themselves, they sought to infuse a sense of adventure into their wedding day. Barcelona held a special place in Dan’s heart as he had spent significant time there during his upbringing, and it was a cherished spot for his late father. Therefore, it was the perfect choice for them to celebrate their love and honor the memory of Dan’s father in this significant and meaningful setting.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Their story began over a glass of wine and an old-fashioned at Harper and Rye in San Francisco, in February 2020. It didn’t take a second drink to know that suddenly life was better, together.

They fell in love over dueling pianos late nights at the Exploratorium, and wine tasting in Napa, and slurping oysters in Bodega Bay. They discovered they loved sleeping in a van in the forests of Montana as much as nights at the Ritz Carlton, dressing up for a night out as much as cooking over a fire.

Dan proposed on their trip to Israel at the Beresheet Hotel, the most romantic sunset overlooking the crater and then they embarked on a two-week mini-engagment moon through the country.[/field]

[field title=”Food & Drink”]For their welcome pizza party, Michelle and Daniel curated an authentic rendezvous with the heart of traditional Italian gastronomy. From the live wood-fired pizza, boasting an array of toppings, to the Mozzarella Bar offering this delicacy in various shapes and sizes, and a dedicated station featuring delectable Italian cured meats—freshly sliced raw ham taking the spotlight. The buffet was also rich in seasonal fruits and vegetables, a feast for the eyes.
Transitioning from aperitifs dominated by the popular Spritz cocktail, the dinner was elegantly complemented by a robust and intense Chianti Classico.

The Wedding Day:
During the aperitif, guests savored prosecco and champagne while indulging in sophisticated canapés in the villa’s beautiful garden, which overlooks Florence.

For the formal dinner, the couple decided on two pasta courses: Tortelli with cacio e pepe featuring crunchy Roman bacon and Paccheri fresh pasta with saffron cream, confit Pachino tomatoes, and asparagus tips. As the third course, the skilled chefs at Galateo offered guests a choice between Sea Bass with champagne and lemon, served alongside seasonal vegetables drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, and Beef Fillet with a Chianti Classico wine sauce, sage-infused roasted potatoes, and a crisp vegetable ratatouille.
An evening showcasing the premium offerings of traditional Italian products paired with white and red wines from the prestigious Antinori Winery.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The floral arrangements exhibited an effortlessly spontaneous arrangement of lush greenery and solely white flowers. Unconventional and lavish compositions adorned the mirrored platform during the ceremony, allowing nature to take center stage and reflect itself.

For the dinner setup, on the two grand tables, alongside the flowers, silver candelabras with white candles and fruits like grapes and figs were incorporated. This was a nod to the essence of the “old world,” where celebrations were marked by opulent tables laden with abundance.

The bridesmaids’ “bouquets” were uniquely charming: romantic wicker bags from which blossoms emerged organically, creating the impression of an exceptionally elegant countryside picnic.[/field]

During the ceremony, violinists adorned in expansive blue tulle dresses enchanted the attendees. Classical dancers graced the aperitif, followed by an engaging dinner, a live band, and exceptional performers. The night party within the villa’s cloister featured a mirrored floor and unique multi-level ceiling draperies, creating an extraordinary atmosphere.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The Bride, Michelle, walked into the ceremony holding two white balloons in memory of her father. Given their ownership of a restaurant in Canada, it’s worth noting that he took delight in personally crafting their wedding cake, showcasing his culinary skills in front of their guests.

In line with the couple’s remarkable hospitality, Michelle and Daniel graciously hosted their guests on the eve of their wedding at an Italian-themed welcome evening. Set against the picturesque sunset of Florence, two extended tables were adorned with an array of delectable Italian cuisine. The catering team thoughtfully curated various tasting stations, including a dynamic “pizzeria,” continuously crafting delightful offerings. T’s choice of a round bouquet in a classical style encapsulated a sense of timeless romance and elegance.
T & S’s floral table decor, featuring a mix of a large, lush centerpiece alongside a collection of refined bud vases and candle holders, beautifully married elegance with intimacy.
The couple’s floral ceremony decor, indeed featuring a semi-circular ground arch (half-moon arch) and an alley of floral compositions in a deconstructed garden spirit, created a romantic and enchanting setting for the wedding.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, the couple opted for a delightful chocolate fountain and a delectable dessert buffet, perfectly aligning with the relaxed ambiance of their special day. This creative choice added a touch of whimsy and indulgence to the festivities, ensuring that every sweet tooth was satisfied in style.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The ceremony was officiated by Tatiana’s brother, adding a deeply personal and intimate touch to the wedding. The enchanting ambiance of both the ceremony and reception was a testament to the extraordinary talent of Felicia Floral Design, the creative minds behind the day’s breathtaking florals and decor. Throughout the venues, an exquisite array of white and crisp white florals took center stage, with the best white roses of Greece serving as floral poetry in bloom. This delicate choice, combined with the lush greenery sourced from the verdant landscapes of Golf Prive in Glyfada, created an ethereal tapestry that seamlessly blended natural beauty with artistic elegance. The result was a visual symphony, where every petal and leaf played a part in enhancing the romantic atmosphere, turning the celebration into a dreamlike experience for all who were fortunate enough to witness the day’s floral and decorative masterpieces.[/field]

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Stepping into the reception venue at Golf Prive, Heleni and Antonis orchestrated a musical journey that resonated with the soul of their celebration. Opting to be the first to welcome their cherished guests, the couple set the tone for the evening during the Welcome Cocktail hour. The atmosphere came alive with the mesmerizing sounds of a unique musical experience, courtesy of the renowned spiritual techno duo featuring the talented sons Vasilis Saleas, Nick Saley and Efrem. Despite their youth, the duo’s fame for delivering spiritual techno vibes preceded them, enchanting the gathering with a musical tapestry that transcended the ordinary during the cocktail time. As the celebration unfolded, the rhythm continued to elevate with the lively tunes of Champagne Live Music, an exceptional cover band that had been thoughtfully arranged by the couple. Their infectious energy and skillful performances ensured that the dance floor remained a lively haven, inviting every guest to revel in the joyous spirit of the day. Reflecting on the magical day at Glyfada, my heart brims with gratitude for the choice of both ceremony and reception venues. The majestic Orthodox church of Saint Nektarios, with its towering ceilings and captivating hand-painted details, provided a sacred and awe-inspiring backdrop for the union of Heleni and Antonis. The historical charm of the church added a layer of significance to the vows exchanged. As the celebration continued at Golf Prive in Glyfada, surrounded by the venue’s lush greenery and elegant architecture, the natural beauty harmoniously merged with the creative decor by Felicia Floral Design. Surrounded by a community of friends and family who exuded nothing but warmth and camaraderie, the air was filled with laughter, shared stories, and a collective joy that transcended the ordinary. The kindness extended by Heleni, Antonis, and their guests transformed the celebration into a tapestry of love, where every gesture spoke volumes about the beautiful connections that bound everyone together on this extraordinary day.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]#IT_WAS_ALWAYS_YOU
The crowning touch to this romantic celebration was the enchanting neon sign that graced the venue, adorned with delicate floral accents and illuminated by a soft, ethereal glow. The poetic declaration, “It was always YOU,” echoed with timeless romance, encapsulating the profound love between Heleni and Antonis. As the day drew to a close, my team and I seized the opportunity to capture the couple in the radiant presence of this luminous masterpiece. Against the backdrop of the floral-decorated neon sign, we framed shots that immortalized not just a moment, but the essence of a love story. Modern Romantic Black And White Wedding On The Shores Of Ibiza

[section title=”The Planning”]

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The wedding unfolded against the rugged backdrop of Ibiza’s Cala Bonita, where a timeless black and white color scheme adorned with lush greenery painted a picture of love and tradition. The couple’s choice of venue, Cala Bonita, recommended by Bliss Ibiza Wedding Planner, proved to be a cozy and delightful setting, perfectly aligning with their vision. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the venue transformed with the soft glow of candles, casting a romantic spell that lingered in the hearts of all who attended. We’re incredibly grateful to the couple for entrusting us with their dream celebration.

Seeking a laid-back and authentic experience, the rustic charm of Cala Bonita, dressed in black and white elegance with lush greenery accents, provided the ideal backdrop for their love story.

Whispers of Azure: A Breathtaking Positano Wedding at Borgo Santandrea

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were blush, gold, and cream.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

My vision for our wedding was an Italian fairytale. I knew I wanted to find a venue that blends modern Mediterranean influences while also highlighting the beautiful, ancient history of Italy- Borgo Santandrea perfectly embodied that aesthetic. The way the hotel is built into the sea cliff allows guests to experience different vibes with each phase of the wedding. A lush garden terrace straight out of a fairytale set the stage for our ceremony, the rustic brickwork and traditional coastal decor of the beach platform served as the perfect backdrop for our cocktail hour and after party, and another terrace situated above the sea was a blank slate that allowed us to mingle the garden vibes with a floral-laden trellis above our one, long dinner table with a beachy, lounge area for after-dinner dancing. When I committed to the venue, the hotel wasn’t completely finished. I’m so glad I trusted my amazing wedding planner, Maryla, at Art Of Perfection Events for understanding my vision and knowing Borgo Santandrea would be the best venue to bring it to life.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Erik proposed when we were vacationing in Curacao. I had a feeling it might be happening during the trip, but our first night there, Erik convinced me that it would be too logistically challenging (e.g., sneaking an engagement ring through security with me right next to him, hiring a photographer in a foreign country, figuring out the ideal proposal spot), so I put it completely out of my mind, slightly disappointed. The next day while exploring downtown Willemstad, Erik was acting slightly off, being very indecisive and flustered about which of the many restaurants we had already wandered past to pop in for a drink. I shortly found out that he was just trying to find the photographer he hired, so he led me down a picturesque side street, where I was too enthralled with the cute cat sitting nearby to notice him down on one knee or the photographer snapping photos. Needless to say, I was shocked, and the photographer got some really cute photos of the proposal, cat included.

Both my ceremony and reception dresses were Olia Zavozina, a Nashville-based designer. The ceremony dress had a sheer, pleated tulle bodice with a layered tulle skirt with floral, lace appliqués and a matching veil. I wanted something lighter for the reception, so I went with a strapless mermaid made from tulle overlaid with lace and accented with sequins.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]We had a selection of canapes during our cocktail hour- the two pizza options were fun surprises for our guests. For dinner, guests enjoyed a shrimp and tomato gazpacho appetizer, a pasta course, a choice of fish or beef for the main, and an overflowing dessert table. We had three signature drinks: Bella Rosa was the bride’s gin-based drink topped with rosé, Orange Amore was the groom’s take on his favorite Baltimore orange crush, and the Italian Shih-poo was a play on an Italian Greyhound renamed for the bride and groom’s Shih-poo Harper. We also had limoncello and aperol spritzes and espresso martinis flowing all night.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The amazing Armando Malafronte made my floral dreams come true. We did a deconstructed floral arch and whimsical flower-lined aisle with white garden chairs to create that fairytale feeling for our ceremony. The dinner table had flower arrangements in antique-style vases with different height candles lining the table and a trellis with hanging flowers and chandeliers above. Our wedding planner also rented some fun furniture to create a lounge area next to our reflective dance floor. We also worked with Momental Designs for our invitations, and they helped us create special stationary for the rest of the wedding, including the cover of our welcome booklet, signs for our table sections, the signature drink menu, and a monogram that we had printed on pillows for our dance area lounge.
[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake was the groom’s idea and one of his few requests- a “cheesecake” made of cheese wheels rather than cake. The venue was kind enough to pre-slice portions of each cheese wheel layer (one parmesan, one asiago, and one pecorino romano), and guests were able to enjoy this fun charcuterie during cocktail hour.

Summer Inspiration in a Private Garden on the Greek Riviera

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]Inspiration for the project started from the… tree! Yes, you read this right – it was the blossom of Angel’s Trumpet – one of the common trees in Athens Riviera – with its magnificent yellow flowers. One of the goals we always pursue in our styled shoots is to embrace the richness of the location and to discover its specialties to the couples looking for unique place to tie the knot.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The color of course was predetermined – shades of yellow and orange. Not to mention that the tangerines, which we used in the decorations, were carefully foraged around the garden we photographed in![/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]The venue was the private garden, inspiring us to offer an idea of embracing the intimate celebrations in family houses like this one. This is kind of a “quiet luxury” for us – having your unique venue, which nobody else will ever be able to replicate![/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Oh did we let ourselves go creative with the florals! Not only did Svitlana from Sweet Kvitka foraged the bloomings offered by the land of Athenian Riviera itself, but she added some home-grown tulips which traveled all the way from her London garden.[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]We don’t want to be that obvious, but the Angels’ Trumpet flower did become the center element for us. And it opened up in all its beauty in a composition created by Svitlana with a antique-inspired greek vase and branches of tangerines straight from the tree.[/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]A good point to start is to look what the location you chose can offer for you – in terms of floristics, venues, traditions, ideas, colors etc. Listen to what has response in your heart and embrace the simplicity over complication. Choose the main element to build all the concept around – this way you’ll be able to communicate with designers and other vendors. Try to search for venues not only on wedding web-sites, but explore the private houses for rent or boutique hotels, or – visit your family house to pay tribute to your family heritage![/field]

In fact, another Queen, Beyoncé, also wore the same Victorian-style dress for her vow renewal in 2018! Claudia had a modest bouquet that still made a big impact, with soft tones and a whimsical organic design, wrapped with an elegant green patterned ribbon. [field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Chris and I met in high school! We have been able to grow together and learn from each other over the past decade. Our beautiful friend, Savannah, married us and sharing our personal vows during the ceremony was so intimate. Although we were half way around the world from our home, I like to think of our wedding as very “mom and pop” with all of our best friends and family being a part of our weekend! We ate cannolis, drank wine and danced the night away. Our wedding was truly perfect!![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Our wedding weekend was beautiful and intimate down to the last detail. We had roughly 30 guests. We chose Sicily because Chris’s paternal grandparents are both from the Italian island. His grandpa is turning 100 this year! His grandparents now live in FL and, unfortunately, weren’t able to make the journey to Sicily, but sharing the photos and memories have been so incredibly special. Our photographer Zach Barron is one of our very closest friends, and it made the weekend that much more memorable and intimate. We will cherish his photography for our lifetimes.

Breathtaking Wedding Inspiration At Blenheim Palace In Full Bloom

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

The historical grandeur of Blenheim Palace meets the vibrant hues of Spring/Summer florals for a modern and fresh design. We wanted to showcase regal luxury infused with a breath of pastel modernity. We brought a contemporary touch to the iconic historic location of Blenheim Palace. In such a grand setting you cannot have an understated design so we leant into maximalism with an abundance of florals, bold patterns, and a vibrant colour palette. A palace wedding for the modern couple.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

We wanted to create a flirty floral spring/summer setting. The season gave us the benefit of gorgeous pink spring blossom trees, but also summer roses which were just coming in. We made the most of being on the cusp of both seasons with an incredible array of classic English flowers. We took inspiration from the table linen for our floral design and used beautiful English garden roses in pastels alongside ranunculus and sweetpeas to give a heavenly scent. The bold patterned linen gave a contemporary and playful look to our dining table and paired beautifully with the romantic floral design. Teal highlights were brought in through the chairs to contrast with the pink of the linen and the florals, and to mirror the clear blue spring sky. For the ceremony we knew we had to create a large floral design as the backdrop so that it was in keeping with the scale of the room. We tied the colour of the giant floral urns in with the teal tone of the chairs to keep a seamless design thread. We contrasted the wild and natural looking floral blossom trees with the more structured regal swags of flowers in front of them bringing the modern and more traditional styles together seamlessly. We also used these classic swags of flowers to line the aisle and used a pop of ochre here as a nod to the gold tones and gilt work within the Palace. It was a fun coincidence that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (filmed at Blenheim Palace) aired just after our editorial and we saw the traditional use of floral swags used throughout their sets too.

[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]

The teal chairs were a bold choice, and most brides and grooms would understandably shy away from them. They really do make a statement! But this is exactly why it was so fun to play with them within the context of our design. Hopefully these gorgeous chairs will inspire couples to be brave with their own wedding designs, and to pick details that really reflect them, rather than making decisions based on what they think they should have.

[/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]Every element of our design was considered within the context of our location. We chose flowers which you would find in an English garden and which would therefore not look amiss within the landscape of Blenheim Palace. We took into account the gravitas of the Palace structure and ensured that the florals we installed were of large enough proportions to stand up against the grandeur of the architecture. We wanted to give our design a contemporary edge but still have a synergy with the setting so with our modern floral designs we also included some floral swags for a regal feel. Don’t fight with your surroundings, lean into them and give them your own unique twist.[/field]

Embracing The Natural Beauty of Tuscany at Castello di Meleto

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were shades of pink and peach, with a touch of dusty blue.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

From the bride & the groom: “From our very first conversation about marriage, our dream wedding consisted of a celebration surrounded by family and friends in a location where we could bring all of the wonderful people in our lives together and enable them to make new friends. We also believe in never procrastinating happiness, in finding a way to make our dreams come true. While the pandemic made this dream wedding impossible during 2020 and 2021, it didn’t prevent us from getting legally married and planning our family. All with the shared promise that we would make the dream wedding happen when it was possible. We decided to have our daughter first, so she could be a part of the special celebration, and there really is no order to things in life! In October of 2021, over the course of two weeks exploring the Tuscan countryside, embracing the beauty of Florence, and dining our way from Rome to Lake Como, we fell in love with Italy. We knew that this was going to be a special place for us. We named our future puppy, Como when we found we would get to bring him home (while in Lake Como). We named our future daughter, Siena (after the medieval province in Italy). And we knew that the rolling hills of Tuscany was where we wanted to bring those most important to us together to celebrate our marriage. We wanted more than just a wedding. We wanted to give our friends an intimate week of quality time together; we wanted a week of exploring Florence and Tuscany, culminating in the wedding and several days staying together on the same property. We planned for several days in Florence with tours of the city, Uffizi and the Accademia, and dinners at our favorite restaurants. At Castello di Meleto we found the perfect venue – castle lodging for our guests, with beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside, an onsite winery, and a gorgeous wedding venue. To help us plan our dream wedding, we were so fortunate to discover The Tuscan Wedding. From the moment we met Daniela Tripodi, we knew that her team would be the best in the industry to help plan our dream wedding. Daniela was such an expert when it came to the most experienced caterers, photographers, florists, entertainers and artisan vendors. She truly pushed the boundaries of creativity where modern romance meets Italian renaissance. We had just begun wedding planning after our daughter Siena was born, and The Tuscan Wedding team made the planning abroad so seamless and smooth. We are forever grateful. For the wedding day, we wanted to make the most of Tuscany, holding all events outdoors until the post-dinner celebration. We lucked out with 80 degree weather in October! Each event in turn needed to also include a few special touches to mark it as uniquely ours. Holding our wedding in late 2023 presented the unique opportunity to include our seven month old daughter, Siena, and she was a star of the ceremony, stealing the show as she came down the aisle in a white wagon. The cocktail reception included a guest table with hand-carved wooden hearts, which we found a few weeks earlier in the Dolomites, upon which our guests left individualized notes – creating a special memento which graces our Christmas tree each holiday season. Shirlene’s design eye lies at the heart of the wedding, but no event more than the reception itself. Here she envisioned an outdoor Tuscan reception with a touch of elegance. Color palette included coral, blush, dusty rose, and burnt orange, reflecting fall colors in the countryside. The flowers included dahlias, garden roses, sweet peas and lisianthus flowers and adorned with Pomegranates, grapes and sweet pears. Crystal candelabras boasting tangerine and peach tapered candles graced the center of the reception table. The grand table was brought to life by shimmering outdoor chandeliers, adding a modern touch to the castle walls, also back lit with warm uplighting. Amber glasses and burgundy artisanal plates were highlights of the place settings. We created a single table to bring the entire group together, and left a few empty seats to memorialize some of the special friends and family we’ve lost over the years. No reception is complete without a wedding cake, which is why included two! First, a personalized American style Tiramisu cake and, second, a traditional Mille Foglie Italian wedding cake – the star of the show being made in front of all the guests and a treat that we savored in the castle on the following day. No wedding celebration would be complete without a party and for ours we knew we needed two things: a great band, and a great bar. For the entertainment, we reviewed a long list of local artists before selecting The Puppets, a talented group who set the perfect atmosphere for our party. The bar also required special attention; one outcome of the pandemic is that Mike became an amateur home bartender. For the occasion, he created a special menu of three signature cocktails for the occasion. Each cocktail, The Como, The Siena, and The Kodiak, is named after the family and consists of a different base liquor and different preparation. If the party is any indication, both the bar and the band hit the mark.”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the bride & groom: “Sunday night, September 16, 2018, San Francisco Mike is lounging in bed, recovering from a weekend in Sonoma with his sister. He opens his phone to discover a notification on Bumble – it’s from Shirlene, a girl he matched with several days prior. They chat and quickly realize that, between their work and international travel schedules, the only available time to meet in the next month is this week. They pick Thursday. Thursday night, September 20, 2018, San Francisco Shirlene walks into the cocktail joint and spots Mike reserving a pair of bar stools. She takes a seat and conversation takes flight. Amongst the ensuing drinks they discuss family, goals, work adventures, and travel plans. They share dessert. They stop at a second bar. They strike a spark that will change both of their lives. The next week they ventured off to Japan and Germany on separate trips. Their second date wouldn’t be for another six weeks, but the initial connection would bring them back for more. Over the next year and a half, Shirlene and Michael build a life together. They embrace each other’s friends; they embrace each other’s family. They embark on countless adventures, exploring Portugal, Morocco, Japan, and Taiwan. In a stroke of luck, they move into a San Francisco flat together just months before the pandemic shut everything down. And during those months locked in together they realize they’ve found the perfect life partner. Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2020, Monterey Bay Shirlene and Mike are taking a weekend trip to Carmel, their first in months in the pandemic. They’ve built a life together during the last year and a half, discovering a best friend and partner in each other. Mike convinces a local boat captain to take them on a sunset bay cruise. The evening is wonderful and the wildlife is active; dolphins, seals, and sea lions abound. The moment is right. Mike falls to one knee. Shirlene says Yes.”

Shirlene emerged like a vision from a dream, captivating all with her presence. Her dress was a pure marvel—a creme white masterpiece adorned with pure white broderie, molding into an elegant mermaid silhouette with a magnificent trailing skirt. The elegance of her attire was an understatement; it was a living fantasy, and Shirlene herself was the central bloom in the garden of love. Her hair, crafted into a beautiful styled bun by the talented hands of Cherie Spisso, exuded a timeless elegance, while her makeup, done with a natural touch, accentuated her beauty. Her long, luscious lashes framed eyes filled with love and anticipation.

Shirlene’s bridesmaids, an embodiment of grace, donned dresses in various shades of pink, reminiscent of the hues of a Tuscan sunset. The ceremony unfolded beneath a half-style arch adorned with organic greenery and blossoms, creating an ambiance that bridged the natural and the dreamlike. Grounded florals lined the sides of the aisle, symbolically guiding the couple towards their shared future. Warm-toned flowers in shades of pink, creme, orange, and white, including ranunculus, garden roses, sweet peas, lisianthus, dahlias, seasonal berries, and eucalyptus, adorned this natural altar. Their vintage, old Italian romantic look was nothing short of enchanting, as if nature itself had whispered its secrets into the bouquet, creating an ethereal masterpiece. Fairy tales exist! Olivia and Lucas are an incredibly beautiful couple from Austria who wanted to have a fabulous wedding. They really like the classic and romantic style, and therefore, our couple wanted to prepare a classic open-air wedding while not losing the elegance of the event. They wanted to hold the official ceremony in a church with panoramic views of the Tuscan Hills. Isn’t this a fairy tale?

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]It was April and close to the date where we had their first date. Lukas surprised Olivia with a beautiful trip to Venice.
At the 16.04.22 after a beautiful and relaxed day they went out for dinner at a romantic restaurant. After dinner they had a beautiful walk back to palazzo and talked about their future. They came back in their suite and the room was decorated with Olivia’s favorite flowers, champagne and candles. They drank a glass champagne on the beautiful balcony and Lukas proposed – AND SHE SAID YES![/field]

The big wedding dress is a tribute to the bride’s mother’s wedding dress. She also had puffy sleeves and big roses on the back. Olivia visited a fashion school and designed her dresses on her own. It is a taffeta fabric from a D&G collection. It’s sewen in an atelier in Vienna. – The lace dress – Olivia always dreamed about two styles of wedding dresses. A dramatic taffeta dress and a lace dress with pearls on the back, high neck, and long sleeves. So she decided to switch her dresses. The lace dress is also custom-made. – The party dress: the bride loves capes and wanted something light and a dreamy look for the party. It’s a silk dress with pearls and a chiffon cape. Also, this dress is custom-made.

Before the wedding dinner, an aperitif was waiting for the guests, at which the first appearance of the bride and groom turned out to be very bright. The couple went to the tower of crystal glasses, pouring champagne with their own hands for all the guests. There were also corners with Tuscan cheeses, cold cuts, and tempura vegetables for the aperitif. At the gala dinner, the best catering in Tuscany offered a royal set.

Starter: Courgette flower with burrata cheese filling on cherry tomato sauce and crispy sautéed courgette

First Course: Calamarata with Verace clams, basil flavored courgette strips

Main Course: Beef fillet with aromatic herbs, Belgian endive purée, and sweet and sour red onions

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

With such a stunning location as Villa La Commenda Concordia, the flower decorations must coincide with the level of the venue. To attain this goal, we were working with rich textiles, gorgeous floral arrangements and beautiful golden tableware. The elegant applique tablecloth and colorful napkins played a key role in the reception area’s design, compiling the floral arrangements with breathtaking views. The beautiful, stylish compositions consist of a wide selection of flowers of blue and pink tones: dahlias, various kinds of roses, astilba, scabiosa, sweet peas, and narine. The candles became an elegant touch to the general look of the compositions.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Our couple cooked the traditional Italian Milfey wedding cake together with the chef right in front of the guests. It was strewn with fresh wild berries, and the culmination of the dinner was the opening of a bottle of sparkling wine with a sword!

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The classical trio, consisting of Piano, Violin, and Cello from the Florentine orchestra, performed at the ceremony in the church. Specifically for this event, they dedicated time to master the selected compositions:

Entrance:

Lukas + Best Men entrance: “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Olivia + Bridesmaids entrance:

“Happiness Does Not Wait” by Ólafur Arnalds

Song for Kiss & Signing papers:

“Canon in D” by Pachelbel

Lighting up candle:

Iris cover by Modde Music on Piano, Violin, Cello

Going out:

“Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift

Their rendition added a touch of elegance and harmony to the ceremony, making it a memorable musical experience for everyone in attendance.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The bride especially wanted to leave her ceremonial dress as a surprise for the groom. In this regard, she has already prepared three wedding dresses. The first was a lace dress – delicate and beautiful, in a retro style. An unusual bouquet in green tones was matched to it. Olivia wore this dress for the first meeting with the groom and their joint photo shoot before the ceremony. Then Olivia asked Lucas to go to church early with the guests, and she secretly changed into a second gorgeous dress, which was custom-made in Vienna. In this dress, everyone saw our bride in the church with another bouquet in delicate shades and a beautiful long veil. But Olivia changed the third dress after the cake for the dance part. This dress was light, delicate, and flowing, which was especially remembered by all guests.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The couple drove from the church to the villa in a vintage car, which was provided to them by a close friend. He specially traveled from Vienna to Tuscany (Vicchio) in his parents’ retro car! Olivia and Lucas could make a real fairy tale out of time and drive through the Tuscan hills in this retro car, like in the Italian movies.[/field]

Elegant Wedding Weekend at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, Italy

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]The color palette for Vivian and Mike wedding in Ravello has been shades of light pink with touch of greenery[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Vivian and Mike, from the beginning of the planning process, had a very clear idea of what they wanted for their destination wedding; it can be summarized into 3 words: Romantic, elegant and overall fun wedding day! Yes, because when you plan a large destination wedding and ask your guests to travel to Italy (what a good excuse!) you should guarantee something that they will never forget! They were looking to host a beautiful wedding but really wanted to add authentic experiences to make a memorable wedding week-end!

So that, Vivian and Mike added 2 extra events to their wedding day.
The welcome event was at Trattoria da Lorenzo located in Scala, a small village close to Ravello.
While enjoying delicious food, guests could taste fresh mozzarella made live, and try handmade sandals. We also organised a corner with demonstrations of how to make fresh pasta. They also added a corder for the typical sandals in order to walk easily in the street of the Amalfi coast. It is always very important to accurately plan the welcome event as it is the first moment in which all your guests gather together for you! It needs to be curated and full of nice things to do in order to get the right start for the wedding celebration.
The day after the wedding, we moved all guests from Ravello to Nerano at the iconic Conca del Sogno for a relaxed beach day and some fun with the Sgroppino show!

[field title=”Proposal Story”]The love story
It’s true that it is possible to find real love online! This happened to Vivian and Mike who matched on Bumble and after their first date they never left each other! Vivian and Mike are big travellers and after a trip to Positano a few years ago they decided to plan their wedding on the Amalfi coast. It is common to read on blogs that when couples decide for a destination wedding they are looking for a more intimate affair but of course this wasn’t valid for Vivian and Mike. In fact they invited more than 120 guests and over 90 guests attended the wedding in Ravello.

Who does what?
Vivian was in charge of everything related to the vision, the mood and the style of the day, with a very accurate eye for the details and to the colour palette; Mike instead was in charge of the food and wins, the music and the party!

Villa Cimbrone and the planning process
The planning started and as per the first step it was important to define the wedding date and the wedding venue. After considering the different options the Amalfi coast offers, they fell in love with Ravello and they picked one of the most exclusive venues the area offers: Villa Cimbrone. Villa Cimbrone offers lush gardens and breathtaking views from every single corner and the WOW factor is a guarantee!
For Vivian and Mike was important to give a crescendo and let guests to see the beauty of the place; so, they choose the Garden of the 2 O for the wedding ceremony to view the amalfi coast line; for the cocktail hours they wanted the Infinity Terrace, without any doubt one of the most breathtaking and unique spot of the entire Amalfi coast! They pick the crypt for the dinner and the party after.

Defined the color palette with our beautiful bride Vivian, we entrusted Malafronte to design the floral. A romantic soft share of pink for a classic floral arch overlooking the Amalfi coastline from the garden of Villa Cimbrone. For the dinner at the iconic crypt we had one imperial table mixed with 4 round tables. To give even more importance to the imperial table where bride and groom were seated, they decorate full of greenery and flowers one arcade of the crypt.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Vivian and Mike have a dog called Bella and we printed her on the cocktail menu and on the cocktail napkins [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]For the guests book, me and my team gave as present to the bride and groom a beautiful Assouline book about the Amalfi coast. A wonderful memory for a special wedding day that is now on their coffee table. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Is there any specific reason why you choose the Amalfi Coast to get married? We traveled to the Amalfi Coast in 2019 and loved it! It’s absolutely beautiful, romantic, beachside, and the food’s amazing. It was so special to be able to tie the knot with family and make the Amalfi Coast even more special to us.

Do you have any advice to share with couple who want to have a destination wedding in Italy? You will never regret having a destination wedding surrounded by your closest friends and family. Our advice would be to take the leap to have your wedding abroad, as it will be so memorable for you and all your guests. Enjoy the planning process, the wedding day, and you will forever have a place to visit that will feel so special.

Bold Colors Inspired By A Tube Of Gucci Lipstick

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

The entire design created and executed by Rachael Ellen Events, including the florals, was inspired by a tube of Gucci lipstick. The bold colors and florals, reflected even in Pola’s dress, were an homage to springtime in Italy.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The colors were bold reds, pinks, and yellows, with romantic greens to complement the natural beauty surrounding the Villa.

[/field]
[field title=”The Venue”]

On the breathtaking Lake Como in Italy there is a villa that juts out dramatically into the lake, and is only easily accessible by boat. The Villa Del Balbianello is stunning in every way. Unique architecture is on display, and the way the natural beauty of the lake creeps across the open-air structures, weaving up the columns in snake-like vines is breathtaking.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

Both of Pola’s breathtaking gowns were designed by Hermoine DePaula. Her ceremony gown was embroidered with delicate florals, mimicking the bold and colorful floral design of the day. The sheath silhouette flattered her perfectly, and the gown choice enhanced the beauty of the day’s design. Pola’s reception gown continued the floral theme with delicate appliqués of leaves and vines, with added sparkle for the party. Both gowns had elegant pearl buttons down the back, adding romance to the unique gowns.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Rachael Ellen and her team created the most stunning, dramatic florals for Pola and David. Beginning with a ceremony arch that began with rich pinks and reds and faded to delicate blushes and pale yellows, the design was bold and beautiful yet graceful. Pola’s bouquet was monochromatic and bright, perfectly contrasting her gown. At a venue where natural beauty abounds, the elegant and dramatic florals were a complement to the exquisite location.

[/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]

My favorite design element was the bold use of color. Especially in the tablescape set under the villa’s iconic arches, the low centerpieces had a dramatic impact on the long table in deep shades of reds and pinks. The gilded gold in the flatware, chairs, and centerpiece cases glinted in the bright sun, adding a rich metallic element to the design. The blue linens tied together the blue water of the lake below, combining all that is beautiful about springtime in Lake Como.

[/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]Embracing color and unique gowns will bring a vibrant spring or summer wedding to life. The bold, rich, romantic tones of the day enhanced the natural beauty of the villa, and the bride’s chic gown with floral embroidery brought together the design of the day.[/field]
