Inspired by the Prettiest Shades of Gray in Tuscany

Gray is my favorite color, and Italy is my most beloved destination, so I’m obviously in love with every. single. image. of this Tuscany wedding inspiration session, captured by Thecablookfotolab. Between the gorgeous, gray silk dress and the romantic stationery suite, gray just might become your next obsession, too. Get lost in the beauty of it all right here.

From Ekaterina of OhMarriageTuscany has always been an inspirational destination, but when we saw pictures of the small hotel near Florence – Valdirose – we immediately realized that this was the place where we definitely needed to have our shoot! It’s so cozy, with lots of lovely details, textures, and shades. When we went there, we felt the special atmosphere of the place thanks to its owners, the wonderful Irene and Paolo Berni.

We organized the wedding dinner on the beautiful glass terrace of the house, inspired by textures and the simple interior of the space. We used shades of gray, ranging from light gray to almost black. We chose a dark turquoise hue for the accent color, which you’ll see in the textured plates. In general, we focused on textures – non-uniformly dyed candles, stone-looking vases, and ceramic plates, calligraphy on textured watercolor paper.

Our bride was dressed in a neat cotton sundress and then changed into a simple wedding dress in our color palette – the slip, a dark gray silk, and the top, a sheer weightless tulle. The look was complemented by an accentual crown in silver with stylized vine leaves. For the groom, we chose a classic look – a dark suit and light shirt in a simple design. This emphasized the groom’s style and the concept of the shoot.

The ceremony took place in the beautiful olive tree grove next to the house. We arranged the ceremony near the outdoor, stone stairs and decorated with several baskets of grape leaves, roses, and hanging bunches of green grapes. We used the same florals for the bride’s bouquet and the reception dinner, adding in lisianthuses, helleborus, and sweet peas. We ended the shoot in the Tuscan vineyards at sunset. What could be more romantic?

East Meets West at This Tuscan Wedding

When the bride hails from Hong Kong and the groom from the United States, meeting in the middle and choosing an East meets West theme are no-brainers. Italia Celebrations blended significant symbols from both cultures to create a personalized experience for the friends and family at this weekend-long celebration. My favorite? The stationery and place settings featured the Chinese zodiac animal of each guest. See the entire Tuscan affair, photographed by Magnus Boguki and Lauren Michelle, in the Vault plus a stunning film by Sharkpig below!

From the Bride… On a trip to Italy, my now husband and I fell in love with Tuscany – the food, the people, the amazing landscape, the history and sense of place! This trip culminated with us getting engaged in the hills at sunset. When it came to planning our wedding, we knew we had to return to Tuscany. Attis and I are independent spirits, and it was important to us that our wedding was a true reflection of that while honoring our families, cultures, and guests. I am from Hong Kong with French and Chinese parents, and Attis is Californian with European roots. With our families and friends spread across Asia, Europe, and the United States, Italy was the perfect “meet in the middle” location.

With our amazing wedding planner, Brenda, of Italia Celebrations and my sister/design stylist, Justine, we designed our wedding around an east meets west theme. It was important to me that our wedding was full of light, joy, and life and told its own story of the day. We pulled that through our color palette which evolved from light creams and greens during our ceremony to brighter colors at cocktails and eventually rich jewel tones during our reception. We also focused on the details: our stationery featured the Chinese horoscope animal of each guest mixed with rustic Italian touches. Brenda collected Chinoiserie-inspired decorative pieces that she used throughout, all of which brought our worlds together so perfectly.

I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect venue than Il Borro, a former medieval country hamlet now run as a hotel that not only housed all 160 of our wedding guests, but also hosted three full days of events in different venues across the property. The setting was so naturally beautiful, we didn’t have to do much to transform it into the perfect backdrop for every event.

Our wedding day began with a personal, non-denominational ceremony officiated by a friend in the 15th century village square at Il Borro. We somehow made it through the vows that we had written for each other (with lots of tissues) and traveled to our cocktail hour in a vintage Alfa Romeo convertible. Guests sipped on Aperol Spritz and rosé champagne and snacked on hand-carved prosciutto in a stunning Italian garden during the cocktail hour. After which, they were escorted for dinner to another outdoor terrace decorated to be the secret, magic garden of my dreams. We dined al fresco under twinkling lights as the sun set and feasted on the best of Tuscan cuisine and wine.

One of my favorite touches was that at every guests’ place setting was a miniature golden figurine of their Chinese zodiac animal. I loved how personal these touches were, and it definitely got the conversation going! Once the sun set, we cut our magnificent, three-feet-wide Italian wedding cake (the best I’ve ever had!) and then danced to our first song, performed acoustically by our very talented friends. As the song ended, the sky exploded with light and so began a 10-minute, jaw-dropping fireworks display. With the guests all dazzled and stunned, they were led to a secret dancing area and regaled by the amazing 10-piece Kitts Band who were flown over from London for the occasion. We danced late into the night (and for some of us, into the next morning), wishing the night would never end!

We feel so grateful to have been supported by such an amazing team of vendors who executed our vision so flawlessly. Under Brenda’s watchful management, the three days unfolded seamlessly, each event bringing even more beauty and wonder than the last. Her floral and makeup teams delivered above and beyond any expectation. Guests are still raving about the food and catering. Our photographers, Magnus Bogucki and Lauren Michelle, and cinematographer, Wade Koch, were each awesome people, made us feel so at ease, and were fun to have around. We are indebted to them for so beautifully capturing these memories so that we may enjoy reliving them for many, many years to come. Finally, The Kitts Band and our friend and DJ, J’Andres, kept the party going all night long. My friends have proclaimed them “the best wedding band, ever!” We wish we could do it all over again, exactly the same way!

Destination Engagement Session Set in Positano

Someone recently asked me about the best place I’ve ever traveled to, and the answer was easy. Positano, Italy. That cliffside scenery is unlike anything in the world, and it’s clear to see why Jenna and Shane chose it as the location for their engagement session photographed by Rebecca Yale. Prepare to be bitten by the travel bug, because this pretty gallery will do just that.

From Rebecca YaleAdding an engagement session to your destination wedding is the perfect way to kick off the celebration of the weekend and have a moment alone for just you and your fiancé amidst all the excitment of the wedding.

Jenna and Shane were married last Fall surrounded by an intimate group of their closest friends and family on the Amalfi Coast. Their wedding celebration lasted the whole week starting with a private romantic tour of Positano just for the two of them to have a moment of relaxation before their guests arrive.

In the summer, Positano beaches are crowded with hundreds of tourists, but during the Fall months the city is much less crowded and we had the whole beach to ourselves and a gorgeous moody backdrop as the rain clouds rolled in over the cliffside.

30 Guests in Tuscany for a Dream Destination Wedding

Hi SMP readers! Blogger Bride, Nicole here and I’m excited to reflect back on our wedding now that we have been married a few months. Even though I’m a wedding photographer, I have to admit that I underestimated just how much goes into planning (peek back at my entire journey!) We wanted our wedding to be elegant but unfussy, joyful and intentional.  And since we love to travel, no one was surprised when we chose to have a destination wedding.

And a look back at the entire wedding weekend!

We welcomed our 30 guests to Villa Petrolo in Tuscany with the most Italian of welcome cocktails, an Aperol spritz, followed by an informal pizza and prosecco gathering. It was a fun, low-key kick off to wedding festivities and the perfect opportunity for old friends to reconnect and new friendships to begin. Our goal was to create a relaxed weekend in a beautiful setting and for the wedding to feel more like being hosted at an intimate and lively dinner party. We invited all of our guests to stay with us at the villa and surrounding farmhouses. The next day we all hopped on a shuttle bus to explore Pienza, a charming hill town in the Val d’Orcia known for its delicious pecorino cheese and Renaissance architecture. That evening we got on the shuttle again to Castello di Meleto in Chianti for our rehearsal dinner, with wine flowing and hilarious and sweet informal toasts from friends. Hosting our rehearsal dinner in a frescoed room of a medieval castle was one of the most memorable events of the weekend.

Our wedding day was even more emotional than I expected. The ceremony took place on the steps in front of the villa, led by our dear friend who crafted a beautiful testament to our understanding of love, culture, and marriage. Our chuppah was decorated with olive branches, and the top was graced by a tallit (prayer shawl) brought from Israel by Daniel’s grandfather, while beneath our feet was a Moroccan handira (marriage blanket) we had purchased while traveling in Marrakech. We stood under the chuppah and committed to choosing each other that day and every day forward. Short ceremonies have become more popular, but we were happy to have a 45 minute ceremony that included circling each other, the seven blessings read in Hebrew and a modernized English interpretation, long weepy personal vows, three poetry readings, and a slightly less conventional “science reading” (Daniel was a biology major in college after all).

At the end of the ceremony, Daniel stepped on a glass and together we jumped over a broom! There are many explanations for why the groom breaks a glass, traditionally to remember the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem or to acknowledge the fragility of life and brokenness in the world even on such a happy day. We embraced the idea of a symbol that connects one generation to another. Jumping the broom is an African-American wedding custom that dates back to slavery. Slave marriages were not legally recognized but this act granted dignity to seeking love and domesticity within the confines of bondage. Much like breaking the glass, this is both a joyful moment and a powerful reminder of cultural memory.

We tried to make decisions for details that reflected our aesthetic and our budget. One thing I was excited about was investing in decor that could also be used in our new home since we bought a house just before our trip to Italy! The copper candlesticks and Silk and Willow table runner are now on our dining table at home, for example. Instead of hiring a florist, we chose to use olive leaves as decor, with me and my bridesmaids carrying olive leaves gathered in bunches for bouquets tied together with Silk and Willow ribbon. Working on our invitations gave me the inspiration to finally study calligraphy in order to do the calligraphy design for our invite and hand calligraph the addresses on each envelope! I used handmade paper with its luxe organic feel and found a wonderful and affordable letterpress printer. One of my favorite moments during wedding planning was when I had a minor melt-down to Daniel, saying that I should have just hired someone because my calligraphy didn’t look professional, and he told me that it looked beautiful but more importantly, that it was more meaningful since it was created by me. Our invitation felt more like a handwritten letter.

I was certain I would choose a colorful untraditional dress before I went shopping, but I ended up choosing a white lace dress. The moment I put it on I felt like a bride, so in the end, I wasn’t quite as daring as I thought I would be! Thanks to Rent the Runway, I had fun gowns for the welcome reception and rehearsal dinner, and on our wedding day I slipped into a stylish reception dress just after cocktail hour. I wanted to invest in accessories that fit with my style and that I could continue wearing after the wedding, so I found simple brass earrings at an Oakland boutique, a brass bangle at Marisa Mason, and dusty pink heeled boots from Anthropologie.

We were so lucky that two of my dear wedding industry friends made the trip to Italy with us! The weekend would not have been the success that it was without Nira of Amber Events making everything happen and Kristina Adams behind the camera. I still don’t know how Nira managed everything she did, with friendly composure and grace throughout! Kristina documented the weekend so organically and made sure that taking photos didn’t take us away from the party for too long! Her luminous film style captured the moments of our wedding in a way that we will cherish for years to come.

The following day was warm and sunny and we had a leisurely post-wedding brunch in the courtyard where dinner was meant to be the night before. In the afternoon guests went on walks on the property amid olive groves and vineyard-covered hills, and Villa Petrolo hosted a wine tasting for us. On our final evening my sister, who is a private chef, cooked a delicious farewell dinner.

As a wedding photographer who has seen so many different kinds of weddings, I think it’s important to note that the most important tip about wedding planning is to be authentic to you and your relationship. Don’t feel you have to abide by every tradition or unsolicited opinion! Throw “must” and “should” out the window. At least that’s what guided me, and I already wish I could go back and do it all over again.

Happy Planning!

xo,

Nicole

When a Destination Planner Crafts Her Own Wedding in Umbria

Jet setting to Umbria is now at the tippy-top of my travel list and it has everything to do with this destination wedding. It is an easy, elegant yet totally un-stuffy celebration crafted by the Bride herself, who just so happens to be a destination wedding planner and it shows! Al fresco tablescapes, the most perfect Umbria-esque rattan chairs, bright blooms and a day filled with Italian beauty… these are just a few of the details to be found in the photographs by Rachel Gomez and Sposto Photography.

From the Bride… It was my dream to get married in the Italian countryside; it’s my favorite place on Earth. My fiancé and I decided on Italy for the wedding (my heritage) and to tour Scotland (his heritage) for our honeymoon! I am a destination wedding planner and produce weddings mostly around Telluride, CO. I have planned pretty much every type of event.. but for my wedding I wanted to take our family and closest friends on vacation to celebrate life, eat great food and drink wine!

Our main focus was to highlight both of our personalities with unique touches to create a completely custom event. We hosted 52 of our family and friends for a week in Umbria, Italy. The guests stayed onsite at Casali Cole San Paolo a family-run olive oil estate with three guest farmhouses and a historic chapel built in the 13th century! This was the venue’s first wedding and I was lucky enough to work with the bilingual owner of the property to secure local Italian vendors in the area.

The setting of Umbria served as color inspiration, we used dusty peach, light sage, creams and taupe with rose gold and dark gray accents. We wanted to set the tone with custom invitations and worked with Whimsy Design Studio, based in Denver, CO. Whimsy incorporated a watercolor of one of the farmhouses my artist friend painted into the design of the invitation. She added watercolor touches, custom wax seals and plant-dyed silk ribbon to complete the look.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with baskets of local wine, Turkish pool towels from Positano and chocolates from Perugia. We spent the week exploring the Umbrian countryside, visiting little hamlets and relaxing at the property!

Our ceremony was set at the top of Mount Solare at Fontanelle Farmhouse, a stone house surround by fruit trees and lavender. We used natural wicker furniture and kept it very organic. My brother-in law married us and my brother played acoustic guitar was I walked down the aisle with my father. It was truly a family affair! We set a black-tie dress code, the groom and groomsmen wore tuxedos, the bridesmaids chose their own dresses based of the watercolor painting and my wedding dress I fell in love with because to me it was elegant- classic with European glam.

The reception was hosted just down the olive tree-lined dirt road at the pink farmhouse named Poderaccio. The surroundings very natural, it was important to me to create a “black-tie garden party” and the ladies at Puscina Flowers made my dream a reality. The three sisters and fine art floral designers grow everything they use. Their attention to detail was a dream come true for a wedding planner bride.

We continued the theme of art/watercolor on the table by including small paintings “of Italy” at each setting and used a custom crest designed on the menus. The table was lined with organic looking floral arrangements, herbs potted in rustic terracotta pots and accented with fresh picked fruit and taper candles. The look slightly eclectic yet polished and cohesive with the environment. We were served an elegant 5-course meal at a table set for 52 that was looking over the Umbrian countryside. We had an American-style three tier wedding cake and Italian millefoglie cake for dessert. The dance party continued for many hours after under the gazebo overlooking the pool.

Colorful Inspiration from the Hills of Tuscany

This inspiration shoot is not only a work of art from the lens of Thecablookfotolab, but a true ode to the breathtaking colors of Tuscany. Inspired by vibrant shades you’ll find any time of year, Bianco Weddings designed every detail to reflect this Italian landscape and the results are so worthy of a place on your pin boards. Dive in right here!

From Nazym Kombarova of Bianco Weddings… Our concept for this photo shoot was to show a different side of Tuscany as very bright, colorful, energy-filled place. We wanted to create a shoot that speaks to the story of a couple’s love and at the same time, we wanted to tell a story of Tuscany, where every color has its own meaning and significance.

Yellow is featured in the rolling golden wheat fields of summer and also represents the warm Tuscan sun rising up over the hills, vineyards and olive groves all year long.

Look at sky at sunset or mists in the morning and you’ll see all shades of pastel pink! Purple shades are here in the beginning of autumn, and dark purple is the color of the olives that are gathered at the end of the season.

And of course green. Green is the evergreen color of olive and cypress trees, as well as rosemary and sage, which you can find together in any plate of the local cuisine. Try to describe Tuscany without using a single color reference and we bet you won’t be able to do so!

An Intimate Italian Wedding Worthy of Our Wanderlust Dreams

From the Bride… Steven and I met in Texas, just by chance. Turns out, it was the chance of a lifetime. From that moment on, we started to build a life together and never looked back. A few years later, Steven proposed in Big Sur on a California road trip up Highway 1. To no one’s surprise, I said yes.

How we decided to get married in Italy is still not completely clear to me, but it was the best decision we could have ever made. It was the perfect place to gather our closest family and friends and enjoy what we love most; eating, drinking, laughter and exploring new places.

We were married in San Galgano, a roofless 12th century abbey, on a warm and beautiful day in late September. The mayor of a nearby town performed the ceremony and honored us with the most poetic and kind words we could have ever hoped for. It was one of the most breathtaking moments of our lives; even our guitarist joined in the happy tears.

We had rented a villa in Tuscany for the week, and there, under a sky of twinkling lights, we had the most spectacular dinner feast. The traditional Italian meal was served family style and wine flowed freely late into the night. That evening, my mother presented us with the most wonderful gift we could have imagined. Unbeknownst to us, she had asked each of our dear guests to share their favorite memories of both Steven and me during dinner. Throughout the evening’s celebration, the people we love most in the world, shared stories that made us laugh, made us cry, and left us feeling so incredibly blessed to have such amazing people share this truly remarkable day with us. Our wedding day is something that we think about often and we know we will cherish forever.

For us, Italy was a dream; something out of a fairy tale. It took a lot of faith and trust to plan a wedding plus a week full of group activities and events from a distance (Mom in Michigan, me in Seattle, wedding planner in Italy), but it was truly one of the most extraordinary experiences of our lives. We are eternally grateful to all those who traveled so far and did so much to make our week in Italy an unparalleled experience that we will hold in our hearts always.

A Fashion Designer Weds at Villa Aurelia in Rome

When you’re a fashion designer like this stunner Bride, it’s pretty much a given that you’re going to steal the show at your own wedding. Can you even with this portrait? Talk about bridal glow. With the help of planner, Francesca Stunell, the entire day was equally as gorgeous, set at Villa Aurelia in Rome. Who wouldn’t want to sit at this wedding table… immerse yourself in the full romance with images from Gianluca and Mary Adovasio in The Vault.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/194200335 600 338]

From the Wedding Planner, Francesca StunellThis sweet couple decided to get married in one of the most elegant and impressive Villas in all of Rome! The bride Lilian is a fashion designer, the owner and creator of the precious handbag line named L’Afshar. A gorgeous girl with a beautiful soul! She tied the knot to entrepreneur and founder of Marz Global, Khalid. They met in 2012 in Dubai.

Their ceremony was held in the coveted Secret Garden of this Historic 17th Century Villa Aurelia, just before sunset. The Villa is just 10 minutes from the city centre, located up high on Rome’s Janiculum hill, allowing the guests a panoramic view over the whole of the Eternal City.

The bride made her grand entrance with a gorgeous custom-made Italian wedding dress. It was designed by an Italian designer and seamstress in Rome, at the boutique of Glen Spose. Lilian knew exactly what she wanted: beautiful and precious lace sleeves and a “mantilla” (a particular type of lace veil) to complete the beauty of this dress.

To complete her elegant look, stunning shoes by Sergio Rossi and accessories by …well..herself! In fact, she even made her own bridal clutch bag with their initals, L + K, and another one with their wedding date, XXI.X.XVI (21st October 2016 in Roman numerals). She walked down the aisle with her father to the sound of Pachelbel’s Canon by a string quartet.

The welcome cocktail was held in the Italian Gardens, whilst the dinner was served on long imperial tables in the Lemon Garden, outside of the Villa’s impressive facade! The color palette and vision was clean lines, ivory with touches of gold and some lush deep red and blush pink to add romance! The floral decor was designed by Urooj Goplani of the Bliss Flower Boutique. The arrangements was made of O’Hara pink roses, amaranthus, fresh cranberries with lots of candles to create the magical atmosphere by night! The onsite florist in Rome used for the creation of the design was Bloemen.

We wanted to create a wedding that was elegant and effortlessly stylish like the Bride, authentically Italian but charmingly fun! The Photo Booth was a vintage vespa covered in flowers and gorgeous handmade lace umbrellas, the food was as delicious as it was eye catching and it was the perfect blend of formal but relaxed.

Cashmere pashminas were draped on chairs for the chillier Roman autumn evenings – the weather was touch and go but thankfully it all went perfectly and therefore dined under the stars! The party dined on Prawn & Amalfi lemon risotto, Eggplant, tomato and basil flan, Beef and Seabass! To complete, a traditional Italian wedding cake covered with chantilly cream and wild berries. After the dinner, the guests moved inside the Villa to dance the night away. At the stroke of midnight, a fleet of Mercedes cars came to take the guests home (or to their after party of choice!) An amazing late October wedding to complete our busy summer season!

Intimate Amalfi Coast Wedding with a Fireworks Finish

The simple beauty and intimacy of this day reminds me a bit of my own. Of course, I didn’t say I do on the stunning Amalfi Coast… but I fully embraced candlelight, loads of blooms, like these from Myrtle et Olive, and an unforgettable fireworks finish. Jemma Keech snapped it all up so perfectly with Marco Caputo Films, and you can find the rest in The Vault!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/204924385 600 338]

From Joy Proctor DesignJem & Brodie were married at the historic Duomo di Amalfi in the sweet seaside town of Amalfi, Italy. Joined by 40 of their closes friends from Australia, they celebrated with a four course Italian meal and reception at the Hotel Caruso in Ravello. After the reception the guests made their way to the terrace to watch fireworks.

From the Bride… The dream for our wedding was a small, intimate affair, focused on family, friends and food! We met seven years before we got engaged working as a cashier girl and fruit and vegetable boy. We knew if we married in our home town it would need to be a large wedding so a destination wedding was perfect. Where else than the spectacular Amafli Coast with it’s picturesque villages, coastal mountains and turquoise sea. We spent a sun drenched week with our nearest and dearest, eating pizza, drinking lemoncello, visiting Capri and enjoying la dolce vita. For the wedding, the styling was really important to me. We knew we would need a stellar wedding planner to coordinate all the details for us. Enter Joy Proctor. I found her on Instagram, she had styled a shoot at the Belmond Hotel Ravello and it was just exactly want I had wanted. So very quickly we had the venue and the planner picked! Joy was a dream. Her impeccable taste, attention to detail and network of vendors made every detail perfect. The stationary by Written Word Calligraphy and the florals by Heather from Myrtle et Olive were better than we could have dreamed. It rained on the day but Joy didn’t miss a beat, she was calming, positive and swiftly moved our outside wedding inside. Without Joy I would have been a stressed-out mess, l trusted her so much I handed over all the decision making to her, so I could focus on my friends and family and husband to be. She turned a room in the hotel to a candle and flower filled dining room. Our jaws dropped when we walked in!! Our guests feasted on four courses featuring the best produce from the Amalfitana Costiera. Brodie is catholic and we really wanted to be legally married on the day by the priest. It is much easier to have a symbolic ceremony and a legal one in Australia but we were really glad we went to the effort. We met the local English speaking priest Father a year before and luckily he agreed to marry us in the Duomo di Amalfi, a spectacular 9th century cathedral in Amalfi. Our photographer Jemma Keech is Australian based too but I desperately wanted her to shoot the wedding over selecting a local Italian vendor. I was concerned about language barriers when it came to explaining the look we wanted to capture. Add in a husband who hates his photo being taken and it was worth every cent. We had our engagement shoot with her and Jemma somehow made him feel comfortable, even making him laugh. She did so again on the wedding day, and every image is one to be cherished. All the guests loved her! My dress was also found on Instagram, and I flew to Adelaide to met Paul from Paolo Sebastian. From the moment I stepped into his chandelier-lit studio I knew I had found the dress. He was so wonderful and caring as was his divine team. The whole process was so fun! He even included a hand written note wishing us well which I read on the day. I felt like Cinderella. The wedding was a fairy tale and we were trilled so many of our friends & family came from all over Australia and Scotland for the day. Brodie’s best man went the extra mile, flying over for only 48 hours in between commitments. We will never forget the incredible party we had, the people, the food, beautiful Ravello and (finally) becoming husband and wife.

From Olga Plakitina Photography… I think that till now this is the most fabulous wedding I’ve ever shot. It was so sweet & perfect in every detail that I simply can’t express it with words. Tatyana & Dmitry are wonderful people and so much in love with each other that you start shining when stand close to them. The concept of Tatyana and Dmitry’s wedding was on the base of classic blush colours. The ceremony on the shore of lake Como on one of the most beautiful and cozy villas. Oval arch full of flowers, hydrangeas, roses and eucalyptus decorated in the same style gave the atmosphere of elegance and love. The lounge zone was organized with old-style sofa and armchairs. During the aperitif guests enjoyed live music. The banquet has been decorated by high glass candlesticks and vases with the flowers. Traditional Italian wedding cake was the perfect end of the evening. I think I will remember this wedding forever, because for me it was so much special. I can’t thank enough Tatyana for choosing me and letting me to be the part of all her fairytale.

A Charming Italian Villa Meets a Rainbow of Pastel

Any time that Brancoprata is involved in a wedding, it’s a given that all out beauty is sure to follow. And this celebration of a fellow wedding mastermind so lives up to all that hype. It’s a mix of old world beauty, modern touches and the softest, prettiest pastel hues set against the backdrop of an Italian Villa. Pore through the vault filled with two gorgeous ceremonies and one of the prettiest tablescapes to ever grace SMP all right here.

From the Bride… Working in the wedding industry and being exposed to different styles of venue, décor etc meant we had already discussed in advance the type of place we wanted the wedding to be and roughly how it would look. I love photographing the details when I attend weddings so really wanted to focus on creating those in our own. We wanted a relaxed outdoor wedding and so going home to Italy (from the UK) was a must.

Every Sunday when in Italy, my family and I all go to an agriturismo (a farm where they cook you fantastic food) for lunch and we wanted to recreate this at the wedding. These lunches have a very villagey feel often to them and so I wanted the dinner to be relaxed featuring long tables with boards of amazing food in the middle. Our vision for the day was to include our interest of art, music and our respective cultures (Scottish, Italian and Indian). It was also an opportunity for both sides to get to know us better as a couple. We have been together for years and know each others families very well but there are lots of interests, memories, life events you share as a couple that often people don’t see. I love Ancient, Etruscan and Renaissance art and so I knew I wanted to incorporate elements of these into the design and feel of our wedding.

We also love a large variety of music genres: R&B, rat pack, classical, bossa nova, Indian instrumentals, West African music and Madagascan reggae, and knew we wanted the day to reflect and work with these. We sectioned each part of the day with a different style of music. Classical, West African and Madagascan Reggae during the different stages of our wedding ceremony followed by Bossa Nova for cocktail hour, Indian for the Hindu ceremony, Italian and Rat pack over dinner and R&B for the dancing.

I looked to my home and wardrobe when choosing the color palette for our wedding before playing around with textures, material and color samples on a physical mood board to narrow down. We chose a mixture of pale pink, ecru and off white for our main colors with pops of champagne and silver. I did have a few concerns because the colors were also the colors that make up the brand colors in my business and I thought that might seem a little strange (A little “I can’t leave work at work”), as well as being colors you’d typically associate with weddings and I considered that I may want something a little different. However in the end they are color combinations I find most beautiful and they are also rarely seen in Indian weddings so I liked that we could create a visually unique version of the Hindu ceremony.

I went totally overboard with the DIY details. I had the strange idea that it would be super romantic to handcraft a wedding for the love of my life. I am known to get a little carried away and whilst working on one thing I’d get an idea to do another. I really love making things but in the lead up to our wedding both parents got quite sick and so I found I hadn’t budgeted enough time for DIY and unexpected life events which added a little more stress than I had anticipated.

I created all the stationary from invites, programs, signage and table stationary as well as made my garter and made hand dyed silk ribbons for the bouquets as well as napkins and tablecloths (Sofia kindly helped me with the latter last minute). I also painted plastic garden urns with a concrete based paint mix (for easier transport) for the tables. We made the garlands for the Indian wedding ceremony and my mum made the muslin curtains for the wooded ceremony.

The most fun project was designing my Indian wedding outfit. I knew I wanted something a little different and less heavily decorated than the usual. I couldn’t find what I wanted anywhere so I decided to create it myself. I travelled the length of the UK to source the right fabrics and it was amazing to see it come to life! The detail we got the most comments on were the personalized letters we wrote for each of our guests in lieu of having actual favors. This also doubled as their name card at their allocated seat. We chose to describe a favorite memory with them or/and give thanks to them in a specific way and I think that touched quite a lot of the guests. Your wedding is the one opportunity where you will both have all your loved ones in one place and we thought it was the perfect opportunity to not only share with them how we felt about each other but how we felt about each of them too.

Seeing my husband to be, teary eyed at the end of the aisle was a beautiful moment. As well as reading our personalized vows to each other. Giuseppe from Blessings from Italy helped us create the most unique and personal ceremony and I didn’t realize quite how emotional it would be. There were a lot of tears. We did quite a lot of homework for the ceremony and it felt really special that every word truly reflected us as individuals and as a couple.

My favorite crafted detail had to be the stationary and our wedding timeline board. I took a calligraphy class and practiced for weeks before handwriting all the stationary myself. The stationary took around 3-4 weeks so quite an arduous and stressful job but once finished I was quite happy with them given I am a total calligraphy amateur! With our wedding timeline I painstakingly painted a serif-roman style font onto a sheet of thick glass and it was displayed amongst the foliage and crumbling arches of the Convent.

I had huge apprehensions about my gown. I knew a lot of the styles I liked wouldn’t be best suited to my petite but curvy body type. I decided to step away from Pinterest and try some on so I would really know what felt right. I had planned on just browsing and getting an idea so that when I went with my mum and bridesmaids, I’d not be swayed heavily by their opinions. Hence, off I went to visit the Coco & Kate Atelier. Sophie and I have worked together quite a few times and every time I have visited her atelier I have fallen in love with at least a handful of her grown up dresses. I walked in and spotted my dress. It was the first I tried on and was different to what I had anticipated I would want (I imagined soft tulle with three quarter length sleeves) but I have always loved the heavily beaded gowns from designers like Elie Saab, so what better time to wear such a lavish dress. Sophie encouraged me to try on more and her honest opinion of each was incredibly appreciated. I really liked the fact that I had went alone. It made the decision seem so easy.

There were no preconceived ideas about what I should wear. Luckily, once I had softly decided and sent a photo to my mum, she loved it too. My seamstress worked wonders in recreating the v-neck at the front to bring it a little lower and to shape it in at the waist and under my bottom to give a little more height to my petite height.

The flowers I chose were quite simple. I love foliage like eucalyptus, olive leaves and ruscus so I wanted to create a look that was foliage heavy. I decided to go for white, creams and pale pinks to keep in with the rest of the décor. I loved our ‘concrete’ urns so wanted these to be the focal point of the tables. I had actually under ordered the amount of flowers we needed but yet Sofia created the softest and freshest looking tablescape and really saved the day!

For our wedding cake, we chose to have a pandoro table in multiple sizes along with my favorite Italian pastries, bigne. Pandoro is traditionally a cake you would eat at Christmas but I love the taste and we just wanted to have food that we enjoyed eating rather than worrying if it was typically wedding or not. I also wanted our guests to experience all the parts of Italy that I have grown up with and love.

Don’t be fooled by thinking that DIY is a more budget friendly option. It really isn’t. Unlike the professionals there is a lot of trial and error and there were times when the stress and time it took was quite a lot of pressure. If you are like me and absolutely adore making things, then I strongly recommend working out how much time you have and planning jobs that take only half that time because life does get in the way, unexpected things crop up and the stress of not having enough time to do things can overshadow the fact you are marrying the love of your life! (The satisfaction of making all the details is lovely though). If you are having a destination wedding too without doubt I would recommend hiring a wedding planner throughout your wedding planning journey. The week running up to our wedding we had quite a few issues and it really created so much stress. You definitely can plan a wedding yourself but sometimes it is worth every penny to outsource!

Sequined Dresses: An Engagement Must Have

The sights, the sequins, the sparkling sea; all these come together for one gorgeous Italian engagement shoot that looks straight out of a fashion magazine. But oh no, this is oh so real and it’s making our midweek blues disappear. Andre Teixeira of Brancoprata captured it all and you can see every shot in our Vault right this way!

From BrancoprataSirmione is one of the most popular “sights” on Lake Garda, with thousands of visitors flooding in each day to view the picturesque peninsula. The castle and Roman ruins are probably the most popular features but if you are looking for a different angle to see the village, the best option is to rent a boat and go for a ride. This was exactly what Alethiea and Krushi, from Xander & Thea, did last July, for their engagement shoot. And because they wanted to do something special and honor the Bride’s Italian heritage, Lake Garda was the perfect location for an elegant engagement session with minimal styling.

Why Italy’s Lake Como Makes an Incredible Wedding Location

Italy’s Lake Como is easily one of the most romantic places to get married in the world. The backdrop to countless celebrity weddings and celebrations, it’s easy to see why Melissa and Kevin felt the same. They packed up their California-based friends and family for an adventure across the world, and the result was a wedding made for the pages of Style Me Pretty. See more from Thecablookfotolab right this way!

From the Bride… Famous composer Franz Listz wrote, “when you write the story of two happy lovers, let the story be set on the banks of Lake Como.” And so Kevin and I set our story here. We met in the San Francisco Bay Area and when we first started dating we both developed a love for traveling the world together. We discovered that we made fantastic travel partners!  We packed as many vacations in as possible every a year and finally decided to explore Europe together.  While in the South of France we got engaged in the ancient village of Eze, which is without a doubt a jewel in the French Riviera.

We searched high and low for a wedding venue in California but nothing compared to the majestic beauty of the Alps. We then realized a destination wedding would only be suitable for us. Our favorite food is Italian so we knew the majestic alps and a destination in Italy would be the only way to go!  When we saw pictures of Lake Como we were absolutely stunned and when we saw pictures of Villa del Balbianello and found out it could only be reached by boat, we knew that we HAD to get married there.  It is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Not speaking the language and having never been there we decided that having a local wedding planner help was absolutely necessary.  We interviewed many wedding planners but when we FaceTimed with Anastasia with we fell in love! We had great chemistry and she understood our California style & wedding vision. We found our photographer from wedding blogs. We showed her work to Anastasia and turned out they work together all the time. Darya, with the Cab Look of Love is spectacular! Her photography spoke to our hearts. Darya’s style and her ability to shoot with real film in today’s digital world is why we picked her! We knew she would be the ONLY one to document our special day. Planning a long distance event was stressful at times but Anastasia always put us at ease and made everything very easy!

Heading to Italy with our families & friends we were a bit nervous. We were not quite sure what we were going to get or if the weather would cooperate. We soon found out Italians love weddings. And the locals we encountered around the lake were so wonderful and welcoming & even celebrated for us!

On the day of our wedding the lake glistened and the lush colors all around us were glowing. The air was clean. It was like the lake smiled knowing it was our wedding day. The day of the wedding was stress free and every detail was taken care of. The boat ride, food, prosecco, wine, flowers, music and everything was perfection. Our guests still talk about how our menu was the best wedding food, being SF foodies it’s a HUGE compliment. Our wedding day turned out to be perfect. For us, it still is the best day ever. Everything exceeded expectations and we were still in complete awe of the day.  We owe so many thanks to all of our wonderful vendors that made our day so incredibly special. We couldn’t imagine a better place to have shared such a special moment with our family and friends.  Lake Como is now our piece of paradise forever.

Elegance Meets Al Fresco Fun for this Tuscan Wedding

You gotta give credit where credit is due and this gorgeous Bride knew what she was doing (she is a wedding photographer herself after all) when putting together her destination wedding. With the help of Weddings in Tuscany by Chiara Sernesi (found via SMP’s Little Black Book no less!), they created a romantic, ethereal and FUN fete that we can’t get enough of. Kylee Yee, with assistance by Tanja Kibogo, captured it all and Philip White filmed the action live – see more below and in our Vault right here!

Villa

From the Bride… As a wedding photographer (www.juliemichaelsen.com) myself, I have attended over 100 weddings so when it came to our own wedding, my partner and I knew we wanted to go abroad and say our “I do’s” under the sleepy autumn sun and romantic olive groves of Tuscany.

We found our venue Ville Le Fontanelle after a rushed weekend of venue visits in October last year. We had originally wanted to be deep in the Tuscan hills but when we saw Villa Le Fontanelle we both had a very strong positive reaction to it! Conveniently 10 mins outside of Florence with the most picturesque 180 degree views of the city, including the majestic Duomo, it was so perfect. The owner Ilaria was welcoming and very accommodating.

Our vision for the day was an elegant but relaxed, fun day in the sun full of meaning and heart. We decided to have a humanist blessing (as neither of us are religious) and it meant we’d get to write the ceremony ourselves. My cousin Miriam was our Celebrant and she did such a magnificent job!

My late grandmother (who was an huge influence in my life) and my grandfather were a significant presence within the day. When my grandmother passed away she left their weddings bands to me to share with Ross, a huge honour and one we were so grateful for.

My talented sister-in-law Sadaf Mirzaei had helped us to create our ‘on the day stationery’ by taking my grandmothers watercolour paintings and designing menu cards, table plans and the place settings with my grandmother’s imagery.

Each guest found an envelope on their place setting with their names in gold calligraphy on it. Inside was a handwritten card from us telling them how grateful we were for their presence at our wedding but also in our lives. I feared that we wouldn’t get time to speak to every single person so as a precaution I wanted each people to know that they were loved and warmly welcomed at our wedding day. It took a long time to write these but I loved the idea of taking the opportunity to tell the people we love that we love them and what they mean to us.

The speeches were probably the highlight of the day, all of them were so funny, heartfelt and we were completely blown away when our family performed a surprise flashmob of Les Miserables! One more day! Even my dad stood up to do a solo! I went through a range of emotions including shock, pure joy, tears, and a very strong feeling to grab a microphone and join them! My Danish family had also written a song for us which they got everyone to sing, so much fun and probably a bit of a shock to the non-Danes as this is a tradition within our family!

Afterwards Ross also made the most wonderful surprise video for me which he showed after the speeches, not a dry eye in the house, it really was the most amazing day!

We found our planner through Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book, Chiara from Weddings in Tuscany, and what a hero she was. She made the whole experience very seamless, replying to flurries of WhatsApp messages and being a cool, calm and reliable presence throughout, she was a God send.

My partner Ross is a documentary maker so we both had very strong feelings about the videographer and photographer… after a bad experience with the first photographer we chose, we were lucky enough to find Kylee Yee who I knew through both being London based hybrid fine art wedding photographers. It was really important to me that our styles were aligned and that she ‘saw’ things how I saw them. I’m a stickler for detail, love symmetry and hate distracting elements in my photos, so I wanted to know that Kylee had this same eye… she made the whole experience very easy and enjoyable for us, being friendly, warm and relaxed whilst also being professional and inspiring trust within us. I so wanted to be on the receiving end of the experience I like to give my clients and thankfully Kylee very much gave us that as well as the most beautiful imagery which we cherish and cant wait to enjoy in years to come.

Our videographer was Philip White. Ross being a documentary maker obviously had high expectations for this portion of the day and Philip definitely exceeded him, he is a talented film maker and also a lovely presence who felt like a friend.

Inspiration for the Natural, Ethereal Bride

There’s been a recent shift in the world of weddings with couples looking to capture a very natural, organic, even ethereal look on their big day. Through the use of neutral tones, cascading greens, and dreamy linens, that very sentiment was brought to life by Simone Gebsattel Events with Kibogo Photography working her magic behind the camera. Head to the gallery, check out the film by Gattotigre below and consider this inspiration shoot your guide to all of the above.

From Kibogo PhotographyLast summer I got lucky to team up with Simone, a very talented wedding planer from the south of Germany. We had some real fun planing this amazing inspirational wedding shoot at a villa in Italy. The prestigious Villa Ca Vendri is THE place to get married and enjoy the best wine and food. Ideal for indoor and outdoor ceremonies or dinners.

We chose a very natural color palette with a gentle touch of blue in the details such as table runner, ribbons for the bouquet, cake and bow tie. Alina, the hair and make up artist outdid herself with styling the bride and Simone with styling the whole theme. A world widespread team of excellent wedding vendors made this a dream come true inspiration for all the couples out there who are planing on getting married in Italy.

A true and authentic Italian wedding is all about: Love and Romance, fabulous Food (lots of it), breathtaking beauty of nature and details and of course about “famiglia e amici” = family and friends.

To celebrate their love in style and elegance, Cora and Luca chose a location near Terracina – a place Luca’s family calls home and where he has spent many of his summers. The elegant yet beautifully simple villa – Vento di Mare – is set in the peaceful countryside just above the town – far away from any tourists, hustle and bustle. A perfect place to celebrate a wedding filled with love, joy, happiness and romance – and to dance the night away under the stars.

Cora carefully designed all the elegant details and decors for the day, to naturally blend in with the villa – combining organic and modern elements in perfect harmony. The carefully selected attire, choice of flowers, custom designed wedding logo, invitations and the calligraphy seating chart all set the perfect scene for a romantic afternoon and night.

But even more refreshing and lovely than these details was the unpaired kindness and generosity of bride and groom – who did everything in their power to make their guest from all around the globe enjoy themselves and have a great time. I have seldom seen a bride and groom beaming with joy and love the way these two were on their wedding day.

A Wedding Under the Tuscan Sun

It’s easy to see why couples like Courtnay and Deyhven opt for a destination wedding. Especially when it’s set in Tuscany with their dearest friends and family along to celebrate. Chic Weddings in Italy made sure their guests were treated to the best food and wine Italy has to offer, and an al fresco dinner beneath the stars was the ultimate reception setting. See the beautiful photographs by Thecablookfotolab and film below from Katia Casprini.

From Chic Weddings in Italy… We met Courtnay and Deyhven in 2015 through a lovely Skype call. They were sweet, in love and very keen on getting married in our beautiful country. I remember chatting with them and thinking that they were really a committed couple and really sure about their idea to have a destination wedding.

Their priorities for the wedding celebration focused on enjoying a good time with their guests, treating them to fine wine and exquisite Italian dishes. They also wanted to have a recognized civil wedding in Italy and celebrate this important day not with a symbolic ceremony but with a real contract and signatures.

The palette for the wedding was blush pink, white, and light tones of gray, using a touch of gold which was used throughout the use of the gold candelabras depicted in the images.

The bride and the groom were very elegant and very beautiful and the night passed with a dinner under the Tuscan stars, among friends and family all dressed up for the occasion.

Courtnay and Deyhven are very much in love and that’s what we love about this couple. We could feel their love in their eyes and on the wedding day they were very relaxed that it was a great pleasure getting to know them in this special day of their lives.

A Winter Elopement in One of the Prettiest Spots on the Planet

You, my friends, are about to get bit by the travel bug and the gorgeous images of Lilly Red Photography are to blame. Together with design by Ema Giangreco Weddings and florals by Fioreria San Rocco Eventi, inspiration for a winter elopement in Venice was born. Pore through the vault for even more of this beautiful city that is about to shoot to the top of your must see list.

From the Event Designer… Venice is a timeless city in Italy, surrounded by the intricate canals and small passages, where the way of life has managed to keep its charm throughout the ages. Being in the city during the winter allowed us to embrace the peacefulness around us. The understated beauty of Venice in winter was the spirit of our inspirational, captured by Lilly Red Creative.

Our bride started her journey in the award winning boutique hotel, Ca Maria Adele. The intimate Sala Noire room served as the backdrop with its rich textures and luxurious details. The light gently entered the room through the silk window coverings. Winter attire was accomplished with a soft laced, wool pullover coupled with a playful tulle gown, provided by. A handmade Venetian fur shawl, provided by Sartoria dei Dogi, added additional depth to the dress. Blue and burgundy provided deep, rich colors from which we could base our palette. The bouquet and floral crown, by Fioreria San Rocco Eventi, gave us the contrast and pop against the warmth of the attire. The groom was dressed in deep colors of blue and burgundy, the suit by Salvatore Ferragamo.

The couple’s first look took place on a small landing, only accessible by wooden bridge. They indulged in a warm hug, enjoying the joy of a sunny winter day. We took a stroll through the little streets around undiscovered corners and we found ourselves at a water taxi station (“ vaporetto”), where the sun shone and illuminated our beautiful bride while she was covering herself with her winter shawl. The table was set on an intimate little dock, overlooking the Grand Canal. A deep blue, velvet cloth complimented the ocean waters and our color selection. The blue was enriched by tone of the dark, red flowers and fruits. The patterns on the dishware and glasses provided a layer of detail and complexity to our setting. The blue velvet cake was the perfect way to end our session, surrounded by velvet tablecloth and roses, creating a frame for our sweet ending.
