From Sue Prutting... My mom used to say "If you are cooking with fresh ingredients and using the right tools, you can't go wrong."  It is just the same with floral design.  Starting with as many locally grown, fresh flowers and foliages as possible means the bouquet is bound to be beautiful!

When designing the florals for this inspirational shoot, I took into consideration the intricacies of the gorgeous dresses (by Inbal Dror) and the cherry blossom explosion that was happening in the Bishop's Garden at the Washington National Cathedral.  It was important to find a balance between florals that made a statement but didn't fight with the other elements in the shoot.  That is how this classically shaped bouquet with bright pops of spring colors was born.  I love to create movement in my floral arrangements and was able to accomplish that here by layering flowers and then adding small spirea branches.  I tend to go a little crazy, so keeping an eye for cleaner lines and constantly editing was a must.

It is so important for vendors at an event or shoot to be able to trust each other and work together as a team.  I just love working with photographer Sally Pinera.  She is a gem, is sharp, and has an amazing eye.

While I grown many of my own flowers and foliages, I love to support small growers around the country.  Starting with the best ingredients is the most direct route to gorgeous arrangements.  To find locally grown flowers in your area, check out the Association of Speciality Cut Flower Growers here  for a listing of growers by state.
