A Classic Farm Wedding in Pennsylvania

A wedding through KT Merry's eyes; it's safe to say there's nothing quite like it. And if you're a lover of pastel hues and the most classic of classic weddings, then this number, originally featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, will speak to your soul. It's a Silver Buttons Farm wedding filled with soft pinks, all white flowers, and a truly beautiful tented reception planned by I DO Wedding Consulting along with blooms by Murphy & Klien Floral Studio. From the Bride, Alanna... Even though my parents recently sold their beautiful, old home in Bucks County and moved to New York City, Yardley will still always feel like home to me as that is where I was born and raised. Craig and I knew we wanted a wedding outside of the hustle and bustle of New York City, and I always knew I wanted to get married in a beautiful church with a tented reception in a unique setting - not a cookie cutter venue that churns out weddings. We really wanted to make our wedding an "event", elegant and memorable, but we also wanted it to feel relaxed, homey and rustic. Bucks County is all of these things and so we knew we could find a great venue there and we were excited to make our wedding almost a "destination" of sorts for all our New York City friends who had never been to the area.

Craig and I fell in love with Silver Buttons Farm the moment we visited it for the first time. It was exactly what we were looking for. It is quintessential Bucks County - long tree lined driveway, beautiful old home on a gorgeous piece of property, and then an amazing and immaculate big white barn that has been totally refurbished and renovated. It truly is an amazing place filled with old artifacts, signs, farm equipment, you name it - not a single detail has been over looked by the owner. Even better, the owner is a wonderful man who really gives you free rein to use the space and
all his "stuff" however you would like. For Craig and I , this venue was the perfect mix of rustic and elegant - we could host the cocktail hour in the barn and then the dinner under a beautiful tent right next to it.

All this being said, we didn't end up choosing Silver Buttons originally. We went with a charming Bed and Breakfast that had a wedding and event planner on staff, because we thought the whole process would be easier than having to do it all ourselves at the barn. However, after a few months and a few meetings had passed - I still could not get Silver Buttons out of my head and began to feel regret that I had taken the easy way out and not followed my gut.
Luckily, after speaking with Craig and my parents, they supported my decision to make the switch and we were back at Silver Buttons Farm. I could not have been happier and we were very fortunate that the B&B was understanding and gave us a full refund on the deposit we had made.

I am so happy that I followed my heart and made the switch. The whole day could not have been more perfect and the venue and tent looked more amazing than I could have hoped. It was the perfect setting and it gave our guests the exact experience that we wanted them to have.

The church we were married in was also a great find. St. John the Evangelist in Lambertville is a beautiful and historic church that fit in perfectly with the theme of our weekend. When you step into it, you feel like you could be in some ancient city in Europe, not in New Jersey. Our priest, Father Robert, was so warm and welcoming and really made the whole process a joy for Craig and I. It was also fun for our guests to get to experience both sides of the Delaware River - the sister towns of Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA have so much history and charm and we were thrilled we got to put them both to use.

From the Photographer, KT... While shooting portraits I asked Alanna and Criag to walk into a tall grassy field. We started shooting and suddenly I looked down to see the most adorable little fawn sleeping just below me. I was able to take a quick photo of her before she woke and darted off to find mom. Come to find out, Craig’s nickname for Alanna is ‘Fawny’ after how she walks in high heels with her long and thin legs! Definitely my most memorable moment shooting!
