Intimate Backyard Horse Farm Wedding
When it came time for this wedding pro to plan her own special day, she knew exactly what to do. With help from The Kept Nest, she planned a completely bespoke affair at her parent's stunning horse farm with Alexandra Meseke there to capture. And from the moment she arrived to the ceremony on a tractor (ah-mazing!) to the very last dance, the day shined with love inside and out.
From the Bride... It's hard to say what my favorite part of our wedding was..besides the getting married part. Darren and I have been together since my senior year of college; so when we got married 8 years later I had had some time to think about what I wanted our big day to be like. It probably helped a bit that I'm a wedding photographer, and had started taking mental notes at my client's weddings about what I loved about their days. So when I actually got to plan my own wedding it really went pretty smoothly.
We were planning the wedding from our home in Portland, Oregon, but the wedding would actually take place at my parents horse farm in Grantville, PA. It was important for me to find a planner/coordinator to help me out, and that's where April from The Kept Nest came into play. I chatted with her about what I was thinking..rustic farm wedding, Cotton florals, pale peaches and pinks & golds for colors & a vintage camera theme, since we both work in the Photography industry..as well as a touch of equestrian for me, I've been riding since I was 5. April took all of that, a Pinterst board I made for her, and all of the props I had been gathering and shipping to my parents house and ran with it, and she brought it all together beautifully .
The most important thing to us about the day, was for everything to be deliberate and thoughtful, pretty too, but we wanted to smash as much meaning into the day as possible. So we started with Alexandra, our photographer, who has known us both since before we started dating and went from there. My brother was the speaker of Honor(officiant type person, we did a self sealing marriage) Our siblings made up most of our wedding party. My dad drove me up to the ceremony on a tractor, and walked me down the aisle. Our moms both did readings from Jane Eyre & Pablo Neruda, and then we read vows that we wrote...his were better than mine!
We did our first dance to Hold my Head Above Water by Quiet Company, and finished it off with fireworks to symbolize when Darren first asked me to be his girlfriend on a rooftop in Brooklyn, and then 6 years later when he asked me to be his wife on a mountain top in Oregon, both on the Fourth of July. There's nothing I would have changed about the day at all, it was perfect.
